Information About Rebecca:

Personal Description:

You can call me Bex. My background is in Marine Biology and Ecology, as a first degree from Plymouth, and Science Media Production as an MSc from Imperial College London (the study of the communication of science through the media). This led me to working in the documentary television production industry for a year and a half in London before I decided to return to Plymouth to pursue a more academic career in Deep Sea and Fisheries Management. My masters also included the study of Philosophy of science, sociology of science, narrative, and film studies.

I'm an outdoorsy optomist, with a love for nature. I have climbed Mount Elgon's 4321m in Uganda, and done a cage dive with Great White Sharks in South Africa. And I'm Scottish. :)

Teaching Experience:

I have informal teaching experience turoting friends and family and have enjoyed it so much that I'm hoping to do more. I'm also a big sister who still regularly aids her little sis in her university work.

Whilst on a World Challenge Expedition to Uganda in 2001, I spent a week teaching English as a foreign language to a class of over 60 Ugandan children of various ages. This was one of the most incredible experiences of my life!

I have been trusted with the training of staff whilst working as a bar manager and whilst working in television production I spent several months running for BBC's Last Choir Standing where I would be in sole charge of a choir of children or adults and had to inform and lead them through their diary of appointments.

Concerning self-defence, I am a 1st Dan (black belt) in Aikido and have three years experience of teaching multi-level classes to all ages.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a fairly informal technique, encouraging discussion and trying to tailor my teaching style to whatever I find my pupil to be receptive to. I myself love to learn so will try to find ways to make my student connect with the fun that can be found in every subject.
