Delphine - Stockport tutor
Information About Delphine:
Personal Description:
In June 2009 I graduated from Newcastle University with a 1st class B.Mus (Hons.) in Music. In my final year, I specialised in piano performance studies, alongside taking classes in French general language and various aspects of music history, theory and analysis. In July I took my Dip.ABRSM exam in piano performance. During the course of my degree I had the opportunity to study for one year at the French-speaking University of Montreal, Canada, which was where I took classes in Music and French and began to tutor music and languages on a private basis.
Teaching Experience:
Alongside studying taught modules on teaching methods in music at university involving placements in schools, I have experience of teaching piano individually to young beginners whilst i was living in Canada. During my final year at Newcastle I taught brass instruments to groups of beginners at a primary school in Co. Durham, as well as offering one to one tuition and piano accompaniment to youngsters preparing to take their ABRSM grade exams.
In Montreal, I gave private tuition in the English language to French speakers, both children and adults. I have also regularly offered informal help with languages and written work to friends and colleagues at university.
Tutoring Approach:
As a recent graduate, I feel that the skills I have developed in the course of my degree and teaching experience are appropriate to supporting a student of music or second language acquisition in their learning. I teach in a relaxed and flexible way, focusing upon which aspects the student wishes to target in particular and setting short, focused homework tasks each week in order for the student to develop this particular area of knowledge. I normally emphasise recapping on material covered during the course of the lesson and in previous lessons, so that both I and the tutee have a clear idea of what we learned in the day's lesson. Ultimately, my teaching style will vary according to which subject we are covering, be it English, French or music.
Please contact me with any questions you may have if you may be interested in learning together: I usually like to meet up for a first lesson with my students for no fee, to get to know each other and to talk a bit about how we might structure our learning.
