Information About Jessica:

Personal Description:

A very enthusiastic teacher with a passion for all subjects that I teach. Playing hockey for City of York is what I love doing during the winter season and then going for long runs around the Knavesmire. I also enjoy singing in choirs as I have a great love of singing and music. I also play saxophone and recorder.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified Primary School teacher. I have been teaching for almost three years now. I began as a supply teacher, teaching children across KS1 and KS2. I have since taught Year 4 for the past two years and Year 6 regularly.
I have a wide variety of teaching methods to help students develop their learning skills and succeed in the classroom. I like to use ICT, in particular PowerPoint presentations to engage students more in their learning as well as visual aids.
My expertise is in Literacy and Numeracy. I use Phonics to help students with their reading as well as in their spelling in their written work. I like to use lots of Speaking and Listening and drama so students can engage with their written work. In Numeracy I teach number, shape, data handling and measures.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe children deserved an individualised learning curriculum. I like to tailor the Numeracy and Literacy curriculum to children's specific needs so that they benefit fully in their learning. When children are working on a piece of work independently I believe that having background music makes it a soothing learning environment and it gets the best out of children. I assess where children are at in terms of their Literacy and Numeracy and then develop their learning from the stage that they are on. I like to link Numeracy and Literacy with other topics such as Science, History and Geography so that it is a memorable learning experience.
