Mohini - Cambridge tutor
Information About Mohini:
Personal Description:
With a Bachelor's in Electronics & Communication Engineering from India, I am an academically oriented person, about to begin my Master's in Experimental Psychology this year in UK. My interest in interdisciplinary research arises from a firm grounding in both physical and life sciences, which I pursued jointly up till A-level, and a general enthusiasm for understanding the world around me. In this regard, I view knowledge as a dynamic tool for creative work, without setting the limits of any particular field, and being able to see the bigger picture while appreciating the details. My approach to any subject follows this principle, where enthusiasm and appreciation go hand in hand with understanding.
Teaching Experience:
While pursuing my Engineering, I tutored a student with mild learning disability for 2 years, in English, combined Science and Maths, through his Year 7-9. The experience of teaching someone with special learning needs made me more aware of the different ways in which students perceive and acquire knowledge. Moreover throughout my student life, I have always believed that the best way to understand something is to teach it. Thus I have always loved to play the role of the teacher amongst my own peer and juniors, in school as well as college. My experience as a teacher is mostly about being able to transfer your holistic understanding of seemingly disjointed facts, to the student. Once this appreciation sets in, I have observed that the learning comes naturally.
Tutoring Approach:
Every student is special, and so is the approach. Hence my approach to tutoring is about getting to know what the tutee needs to understand, and how does he/she learn. My own experience as a student as well as a tutor, makes me realize the importance of constant feedback in a tutoring session. Any unit of knowledge is better grasped and remembered when it is approached through multiple channels. Thus it is important for the student to get a 'feel' of what he is learning through lots of doodling on paper, diagrams, examples from everyday life and any other medium of information one can use. Encouraging the student to discover the answers through his own methodical thinking, seems to me to be the best way of making the student realize his own potentials, while being gently guided throughout the process.
