Teaching Experience:
I have tutored Spanish GCSE level, and Chinese from scratch. I have 2 years tutoring experience and have completed the PTLLS teaching qualification.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring languages is based on the methods I have found most effective for learning. I think a textbook should be used, but should not be the only material and also should not be stuck to too rigidly. For example I would reccommend using resources such as the BBC news website for that language, to keep things interesting and to learn some topical vocabulary. While some things such as learning verb paradigms need to be done by simply memorising a list, more fun tasks such as making up stories are the best way to put what you have learned into practise and really seal it in your mind. For example, the best way to memorise vocabulary is to link it to some word you already know - and the more bizarre the link, the better you remember it. It is also best to speak in the target language as much as possible, even if you have to stick the odd English word into your sentences.
