Information About Michael:
Personal Description:
I am 20 years old and come from Western Germany. In the moment, I am studying History, French and Spanish at Aberdeen University in Scotland. In my pastime, I enjoy reading books, exploring Aberdeen's town and countryside or try out learning new languages myself.
Teaching Experience:
Beside my studies, I have gained much experience in my work as a private tutor for English, German, Spanish and French in private lessons and small groups. I.e. I worked as a tutor in a German public school-run tutor programme for 4 years, teaching children and teenagers from 10-17 years. Additionally, I coached schoolchildren privately in all the subjects mentioned below during that time. I am actually teaching at different levels:
- (complete) beginners
- advanced beginners (e.g. first years at school in the subject concerned)
- intermediates and advanced intermediate (e.g. final years at school and exam preparation)
In addition to my mother tongue, German, I am also holder of language certificates at level C 1 of the Common European Framework of Reference in:
- English: Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE)
- French: Diplome Approfondi de la Langue Francaise (DALF)
Furthermore, I have first-hand experience of French culture, as I stayed in France for educational purposes for half a year in 2004.

Tutoring Approach:
The lessons will be focused on your personal aims and interests - so it is you who decides how much time you want to invest in learning and on which aspects of language you want to put the main focus on. Whether you want to
- prepare yourself for school exams
- learn a language from scratch, ab initio,
- refresh previous knowledge,
- prepare yourself for a holiday,
- get yourself ready for conversation,
- read magazines, newspapers, or even books or poetry,
- immerse yourself into the native culture,
together we will find a convenient and variable approach for you.
Teaching methods therefore are manifold and include work with free online language materials, authentic written, aural and visual media and oral practise via Skype.
Finally, the many contacts to native French and German speakers I can offer at a later stage will both enrich your learning experience and bring a bit of fun into the arduous process learning a (new) language!
But no worries: as I am aware that learners react differently to different teachers, and both need to get used to each other, the first two lessons will be held on a trial basis. After those two meetings, it is you who decides whether we shall continue on a "serious" basis. I'm looking forward to helping you to progress!
