Personal Description:

After graduating with an engineering degree, I spent some time in industry, then took a teaching qualification (PGCE) to teach in further education. After some time my hobby took over and I moved from being a free-lance french horn player to joining the BBC Welsh Symphony Orchestra in Cardiff, where I remained for 12 years. Most recently I have been working as a compliance officer for a mortgage brokerage.



Teaching Experience:

I have experience teaching mechanical engineering in further education, and mathematics and physics at secondary level up to A level.

I have also taught the french horn and other brass instruments, principally trumpet and trombone, both on individual and class bases.



Tutoring Approach:

In my experience, the need for tutoring is usually caused by a lack of confidence in the pupil, which stems from difficulties in problem solving because of fundamental misunderstanding(s) at some stage in learning.

I have found that a sympathetic approach to investigating and correcting the weaknesses and the provision of plenty of practice in past papers is the best approach to resolving pupils' problems and restoring confidence
