Paul - Aberdeen tutor

Information About Paul:

Personal Description:

Hi, I'm Paul! I am half-British, half-Mexican. I lived in Mexico for fifteen years before moving to Aberdeen last year, where I am about to start my second year of a Geography Degree. I play guitar, and I also play football, having played for Mexico under-17s two years ago.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught English and Spanish both as volunteer work or as weekend work for two years in Mexico. I have also tutored Maths in Mexico, having received an A for Maths on my IGCSE. I have only ever taught guitar for fun, but I am capable of teaching up to around grade 4 and can teach the relevant Music Theory as well.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very relaxed about tutoring. In terms of languages, for the first phase of the tutoring experience I tend to use conversational situations to try and help students find their feet in a language before teaching them the more complex building blocks such as grammar and tenses. However, this is very flexible depending on what the student wishes to achieve. In terms of Maths, I know a lot of short cuts to take so that students can remember methods and formulae so that they need not worry about the approach and can focus on the numbers in hand. With Music, I believe Music Theory is just as important as the practicality of an instrument, so teach at least the very basics before picking up a guitar with a student.
