Personal Description:
I am a friendly and lively CELTA qualified EFL teacher with a degree in English and also a great deal of experience teaching both in the classroom and privately. I specialise in English language and literature, film studies and English as a foreign language, all of which I have a great deal of experience and a wide knowledge in which has grown from a general as well as academic love for these subject areas. I have published some written work in recent years and work as a proof reader and editor for an established publishing company, thus I am particularly apt in areas of writing and essay skills. I can provide a teaching space at my home in South London, or am willing to travel anywhere up to zone 5 in London. I am willing to teach lessons one on one or in small groups.
Teaching Experience:
I have a wide range of teaching experience having held the CELTA qualification for several years. I have taught EFL both in England and abroad to young children, teenagers and adults. I have taught large classes in several well established schools and universities and one on one to extremely varied students. I have also worked in a college teaching English literature and general key skills to students with emotional and behavioural problems and learning difficulties. I am happy to provide references from any of my previous employers.
Tutoring Approach:
Throughout my teaching career my warm and open manner with students has frequently been commented on, I adopt a style of teaching that, whether in the classroom or one on one, encourages a strong rapport with the student/s and allows them to feel entirely comfortable in approaching and engaging with me. It is important to establish aims and goals from the outset, especially in private tutoring and this is something I constantly discuss and reassess with my student/s, ensuring that they are getting the most they can from each lesson.
My lessons are always very diverse and interactive, and I aim to offer my student/s a means of learning their subject in a manner that allows them to contextualise and thus grasp more firmly the material they are studying. Above all I endeavour to ensure my student/s enjoy the lessons and thus remain fully focussed throughout the session.
