Lisa - Reading tutor
Information About Lisa:
Personal Description:
From 1996 - 2000 I studied for a 4 year degree from the University of Edinburgh with Honours in Medical Microbiology. I continued at the University of Edinburgh to gain a PhD in 2004 in the area of Molecular Microbiology. I then did a 3 year post-doctoral research position in vaccine development for Salmonella before moving to Berkshire to work as a Molecular Biologist for a leading Biopharmaceutical company. I am a committed and talented scientist.
Teaching Experience:
I have 7 years undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience from Edinburgh University. This includes both 1 to 1 tutoring and group sessions specialising in problem solving and practical science teaching.
I have been successfully tutoring GCSE and A level Chemistry and Biology since moving to Berkshire.
Tutoring Approach:
I tailor the tutorial to the student. The approach will depend on the time of year and the demands on the student at those times. Pre-exam tutorials will clearly be different from mid-term sessions. As I am a full-time scientist I can provide an insight into cutting-edge research and the relevance of science today which is often missing in science teaching in the classroom.
I am very approachable and enthusiastic about science teaching and hope to build a rapport with each student. I believe a good relationship is the key to the student getting the most out of the experience.
