Tanya - Bishop's Stortford tutor

Information About Tanya:

Personal Description:

I have a 1st Class Honours degree in English from the University of London and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE - Qualified Teacher Status) in Secondary English (11-18).
I am married with a 14 year old son and a 11 year old daughter.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching English Language and Literature at secondary level (Years 7-13, including GCSE and A-level) in a local school, since returning to work after having my children.
Before this, I worked as a part-time literacy tutor for 3 years in a primary school, teaching children to read and write both on an individual basis as well as in small groups.
I have also been a private tutor since 2008.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is student-centred. I strongly believe that every individual learns differently and it is my job as the tutor to work with parents and students to find the most effective way for him/her to learn. Each student needs something different from a tutor, whether it is to work on subject knowledge, exam technique, study skills or a combination of all three. My approach and lesson content will vary to match the student's needs.

Tutoring can be arranged on an individual basis or lessons can be shared with a friend/sibling. The hourly rate stays the same for group lessons, divided between the number of students sharing the lesson (ie. £30 for an individual GCSE lesson, £15 each for two students, £10 for three or £7.50 for four).
