Anna - Doune tutor

Information About Anna:

Personal Description:

I have been a part-time English tutor for the past 3 years. I currently teach undergraduates in the English Department at Stirling University, where I am studying part-time for my PhD, and also tutor Academic Business English at the International Study Centre, Stirling University. I am also an Invigilator at Stirling University for students with Additional Academic Arrangements.
I have Enhanced Disclosure Scotland status.

Teaching Experience:

I currently teach at Stirling University. My particular teaching strengths are in English (all areas of language/creative writing and comprehension), Communication and Media Studies.
I have extensive tutoring experience of the Higher English syllabus. I am also familiar with the Standard Grade (Credit/General) syllabus.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is structured to suit the individual needs of the student.
A first session identifies areas of need alongside subject strengths. It is critical to establish the student's tutoring expectations for both the short and long term. For example, short term intensive tutoring might work on identified needs for exams/coursework submissions.
As well as addressing problem areas I believe that encouraging strengths fosters enthusiasm and ultimately increases confidence.
I like to work with a variety of types of text/material, once again suited to the student's age, taste and ability.
For students at A-level and above, literature search and online research skills may also be fostered.
