Simona - Palmers Green tutor
Information About Simona:
Personal Description:
In my job as a teacher I deal with every aspect of the Italian language, literature and culture. On the bases of my experience I can say that I am a very passionate, self motivated and hard working person and regarding my job I find it a very satisfying profession that enables me to work and contribute to the growth of amazing people.
Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching Italian for the past four years in a variety of educational settings within the UK and in my own country including primary and secondary schools and adult education.
I am currently working as Italian teacher for a primary school. In my current position I am responsible for an after- school Italian club where I provide a variety of interesting activities including songs, games, vocabulary and exercises for 4- 10 years old children. In addition, I have introduced a bilingual learning project in which geography and other subjects are taught through Italian. Movement is also another interesting element I use for teaching Italian language: students listen carefully to instructions in Italian, and respond physically by performing the task. In this way movements become naturally associated with words and the children then use the vocabulary in different contexts in the class.
As you can see from my CV, I hold a BA (Hons) degree in Modern Language and Literature where Italian language and literature is the main subject.
In my teaching profession I have experienced a variety of roles including working as Italian teacher for Communicaid which is one of the largest providers of adult education in the UK. My position involved providing foreign language training solutions to corporate and public institutions by delivering language and culture training to either small or large groups.
Tutoring Approach:
Teaching the four skills (listening, reading, writing and speaking)
Italian for Law and Insurance
Italian for Business, Commercial Correspondence and Secretarial Purposes
Italian for Medical Purposes and Tourism
Using different teaching resources, like textbooks, songs, flashcards and audio- visual materials (internet, tape, video)
Introducing a cultural component into the language teaching using history, geography and art.
Using ICT can accelerate and improve learning in adult education by stimulating the learner with more enjoyable and creative activities. I use multimedia at every stage of education by tailoring and selecting learning resources to meet the particular needs of each student. The learning tools I use for online teaching are a presentation software such as Microsoft Power Point and a Word- processing software such as Microsoft Word. I find Power Point very useful for introducing new vocabulary or creating lessons that combine text, sound, video, still and moving graphics. My adult students are able to understand, appreciate and critique visual texts where they can explore the images and design elements with the teacher. As I also work as a private Italian tutor, internet has become an essential medium of professional contact and communication with my students. Many of them prefer distance learning by using Skype and the videoconference. In this way, learning a language becomes a dynamic activity where the students can work together by using a collaborative approach getting to know eachother.
At primary level I use ICT to introduce colouring activities with young children as well as ordering numbers activities where numbers are putted in the correct order and some shared writing, where the class can write a story together with contributions from every child.
