Personal Description:
I am a recent graduate of Leeds University and an ongoing postgraduate student at Exeter University. Having completed my GCSE'S/ A levels only a short while ago, I am eager to share knowledge/strategies on gaining high grades.

I am keen to stay in Education and I hope to go onto further study at a later stage.

I have a strong interest in the humanities, having studied British Politics, many different aspects of history, Critical theory from a Post Modernist and Analytical/Enlightenment perspective as well as other important philosophical and sociological phenomena. I feel like I can be of real value to any aspiring student in the humanities.

Education is an important part of life, possibly the most crucial component, I will derive great satisfaction from helping people to succeed in their chosen fields and areas. I am sure that through hard work, understanding and clear planning, I can move students towards achieving their desired grade.

I look forward to hearing from potential tutees.

Alex

Teaching Experience:

I have been working in Education professionally for the last 6 or 7 months, predominately as a teaching assistant but also helping struggling students.

During my time, at University I was involved with a charity, which organised English lessons to refugees, this has provided me with a foundation , for further work in Education.

At the moment I am also working towards a Masters and I hope to have this completed before the end of the year. This is enabling me to develop a theoretical approach to Educational issues and allowing to enhance my teaching methodology.

I can provide academic and Educational references upon request.

Tutoring Approach:

I hoping to adopt a flexible, open approach whereby I can be responsive to the needs and requirements of individual students. I am happy to tailor the lessons on a case by case basis.

I am very aware of the stress and anxiety that exams, coursework can cause, I am happy to work closely with students to alleviate any concerns they may have in periods which conflate with any of the above.

Personal Description:
I am married with 2 children. I Love helping students reach their potential and be proud of what they have achieved.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a successful Secondary Maths Teacher for 24 years. I have worked for South Tyneside, Durham and Sunderland Education Authorities. I am currently Head of the Maths Department at an Academy in Sunderland. I am very familiar with a wide range of maths schemes and exam boards. I have given private tuition for over 20 years.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to teach using a logical and systematic approach rather than jump from one topic to another. I always leave work for the pupil to complete which would be checked at the beginning of the next session. For GCSE pupils I always complete a topic or section by working on previous exam questions.
My tuition has been very successful, all of my tutees have improved their grades, 2 or more grades higher depending on the time I spend with them. Some of my tutees have improved from a 'D' grade to an 'A' grade.
I offer short revision courses (2 or 3 weeks) and one-off revision sessions to prepare for exams.
I also offer sessions for more than one if students feel they would like to receive tuition with a friend.
I can usually tailor the tuition to suit most needs.

Personal Description:
I am an experienced and enthusiastic tutor with a great love of languages, ancient and modern. I have two degrees: a BA from the University of Bristol taken in 1981, and then over 20 years later an MA from UCL. Both degrees contained a significant Classical language component and I am familiar with all the major authors. My first degree also included Italian and I have subsequently studied at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in London.

Teaching Experience:

- Private tutor with a wealth of experience across all age groups - my students/tutees have ranged in age from 12 to 75. I have coached for exams (CE, GCSE, A level, university exams), with excellent results for my students, and I have tutored adult learners who have come to me for a variety of reasons: some relocating to Italy, others wanting to speak a bit of Italian on holiday, and some who fancy reading Virgil or Cicero in the original Latin.
- Tutor in adult education, currently teaching Italian, Latin, Ancient Greek and Roman History in West Sussex.
- Tutor at The London Summer School in Classics.
- Tutor at a leading university, taking undergraduate seminar classes.
Please note I teach Ancient Greek, not modern!

Tutoring Approach:

The key to successful tutoring lies in tailoring the content of the classes to the student's needs and objectives. For GCSE, a rigorous approach may be required to ensure that grammar and vocabulary is acquired, whereas an adult learner of Latin or Greek may want to progress quickly to adapted text, or with Italian, to be able to converse a little on holiday. Whatever the case, I think learning or revision should be fun, and I aim to make my lessons as enjoyable as possible, whilst keeping a close eye on exam deadlines!

Personal Description:
I'm an experienced stage and television actor with a degree in English (2.i) from Trinity Hall, Cambridge and a 2-year post-grad qualification from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. I live in central London (Westminster) and enjoy balancing out the right brain activities of acting with the rather more left brain activities of teaching - especially Latin, which I studied through A-Level to degree, taking a Latin translation and literary criticism paper in Part 1 of my Cambridge Tripos.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught both privately and at a range of different schools and colleges for many years. My private client base has principally been in teaching Latin for Common Entrance and GCSE. In terms of classroom experience, I have worked as a supply Latin teacher at Eaton House Schools and as an A-Level English Tutor at Collingham Tutors. The majority of my work is as a private tutor travelling to people's homes and offering additional support to 10-16 year olds who are struggling with their Latin. I have a huge success rate in terms of results, regularly turning C-grade students into A-graders.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is both pragmatic and personal. Every child is different and therefore every child requires a subtly different approach. In terms of teaching English Literature my principle objective is to inspire. In terms of teaching Latin my key concerns are rigour and attention to detail. With the right approach it is often very easy to turn a child who hates Latin at school into one that (even if it is secretly) both loves it and does very well.

Personal Description:
I am a family man, married 10 years to my wife Mel, with 3 beautiful daughters. I have been tutoring in the South Wales area since 1992 after graduating in Chemical Engineering with 2nd (Hons) Degree from University of Glamorgan. My hobbies include wordwide travel, Triathlon, Motorcycles/Cars and anything to do with science and maths.

Teaching Experience:

After graduating in Summer 1992 with an Honours Degree in Chemical & Process Engineering from the University of Glamorgan, I set up my tutoring business to assist parents & pupils with examination preparation, who felt they were being let down by the educational system.

I worked as an examiner for the WJEC from 1997 to 2002 marking Maths papers.

I currently teach on a 1-2-1 basis or in small groups, usually {but not exclusively} in the privacy of the pupils home, in the following subjects:-

* Key stages 1 to 4 {GCSE} in Mathematics, English, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Engineering, Design and Technology, Electronics.

* 'A' Levels {GCE} in Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics

* BTEC Engineering, Nursing & Health Care courses, Paramedics, Sports Science.

* Degrees in Engineering - Chemical, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Aerospace, and Nursing.

* UKCAT Entrance exams to Medicine and Dental school.

Tutoring Approach:

I thoroughly prepare students for examinations using past paper practise to build up their self confidence and develop the ability to read and digest each exam question.

During the interim term time, I conduct 'student led' lessons, where each of my pupils is able to tell me what they want to learn; whether it be new material, homework assistance or revision of old topics.

I structure my lessons this way because I teach many different students of varying abilities, who are studying at different levels and using different exam boards e.g. WJEC, OCR, AQA, EDEXCEL.

Personal Description:
I am a confident, diligent and sociable person, with a wide knowledge of world history, and specialising in American and South-East Asian history and culture. I hold a double first class Bachelors degree in History and American Studies from Canterbury Christ Church University, and have had many years experience leading youth projects such as youth councils, young persons' scrutiny forums (YPSF) and have acted as a liasion on several historical and cultural preservation projects such as the Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE) and the Church House Preservation Committee.

Teaching Experience:

I have previous experience as a teaching assistant to KS3 and KS4 level history at a state secondary school.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a holistic approach to the teaching of history, ensuring that the student becomes engaged within a fuller understanding of the period being studied. As a former student and teach of history, I realise that the principal block to a tutee's understanding of historical concepts is a lack of immersion within the relevant time-frames and thus an inability to fully comprehend why certain actions were taken, and the wider effect this had.

Thus in my approach I am firm believer that it is as important for every student to understand to a higher level than that offered by the current state curriculum the context of the period they are studying. As a consequence I offer tailored introductions to said period's culture, economy, religious and political setting, and even physical geography.

Furthermore, I offer the necessary skills to craft this knowledge into well-reasoned, informed essays. My intimate knowledge of the state education system and beyond has imbued me with the ability to gauge how assignments will be assessed and thus I can work with students not only on improving their knowledge, but showcasing this in highly-marked, structured and coherent written forms.

I use a number of methods to achieve this, including homework assignments, but also using character adoption, audio-visual aids and a mixture of written and verbal questions of varying length and form.

I have a Masters degree (distinction) in Philosophy from the University of Leeds. I now live in York, where I work freelance, including teaching a short course in medical and media ethics to undergraduate medical students. I am also conducting doctoral research in medical ethics at Hull York Medical School.

I have more than 10 years experience of teaching and coaching in both music and philosophy, including working with individuals and groups, both adults and young people.

Tutoring Approach:

For adults and casual learners, I can be very flexible in frequency and style of tutoring. I'm happy to discuss weekly, fortnightly or occasional classes in formal or informal settings. The content can be as open or as structured as you prefer, with or without set readings or written assignments.

For school/college age learners, I would expect to discuss and agree the purpose of the tuition and areas to be covered in advance. In my experience, for this style of tuition, regular (weekly or fortnightly) meetings are more appropriate.

Personal Description:
Currently a final year student at Queen Mary, University of London, I have in-depth knowledge in History and Politics. Recently, I have taken a year out to the US to extend my knowledge in American History and Politics. Having studied both these subjects for my A levels, I know what students are going through and what they should expect in an exam. I am also fluent in Cantonese and able to write and read in traditional Chinese.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience is largely based on informal tutoring in the form of discussion with younger students. Although I have never taught formally in a classroom before, I believe this should not hinder, but rather, enhance my ability to interact with students, especially when it comes to one-on-one tuition.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to base my tutoring around discussion with the student. I believe allowing the student to wrestle with difficult ideas and understanding them is better than spoon-feeding information. I also think sample essays, resources from beyond the curriculum would be a great help, so that would be a big part of my tuition approach as well.

Personal Description:
I have been a private tutor for more than 7 years.

Teaching philosophy has always been important to me, as it demands constant reflection of one's own assumptions and high awareness of the various possible ways to reach genuine philosophical understanding of the world we live in.

Being a native German speaker, I enjoy teaching the language at all levels. During the time I have tutored, mostly, native speakers of English I have learned to deal effectively with the specific difficulties that speakers of English tend to have; for instance, elementary differences in grammar which can appear particularly frightening when trying to take one's first steps; or, higher level problems such as finding the most natural expressions relative to various contextual factors.

Currently, I am studying for a doctoral degree (DPhil) in philosophy at the University of Oxford.

My areas of specialisation are the following:
- History of Analytic Philosophy (esp. Frege, Russell, Wittgenstein, Austin, Ryle)
- Methodology (esp. Socratic, Ordinary Language Philosophy, Phenomenology)
- Philosophy of Logic & Mathematics (esp. Argumentation Theory, Foundations of Mathematics)
- Political Philosophy (esp. theory of the state, political economy)

My teaching competence further includes:
- Metaphysics
- Epistemology
- Philosophy of Language
- Philosophy of Mind
- Special authors: Plato/Socrates, Descartes, Locke, Hume, Kant, Marx, Nietzsche, Heidegger

Teaching Experience:

Besides having tutored all ages and levels, individually and in groups, I have been a Teaching Assistant and Associate Tutor both at the University of Göttingen and at the University of London, teaching BA and HE Certificate students in the form of tutorials and seminars, primarily in philosophy of language, philosophy of mathematics, history of analytical philosophy and metaphysics.

Tutoring Approach:

Conversation and writing form the central ingredients of every philosophical education, and something very similar holds true of learning a foreign language. Understanding shows itself in the clear and spontaneous expression of the relevant concepts. Written and oral exercise are of equally great importance. I encourage my students to send me a piece of written work (however short) prior to our meetings. This procedure assists the student in thoroughly reflecting their own understanding, as well as the tutor in tailoring their lessons to the student's individual needs and interests, and thus both of them in their joint achievement of the student's wished-for mastery of the relevant skills and materials.

Personal Description:
I am currently teaching in one of the most sought after private sixth form college in West Midlands. I dedicate half of my day to tutor privately at my residence. I am currently teaching Edexcel's AS/A2 Economics and Mathematics C1, C2, C3, C4 with further pure and mechanics series and statistics.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching in a sixth form for past 6 years and have been tutoring for last 7 years for GCSE and A-level

Tutoring Approach:

Each lesson is accompanied by a set of very precise notes and homework for the next lesson.

During the lesson, I first introduce the concept and its practical application. This is followed by a numerical example (maths and economics) or with a multiple choice question for Economics. Once the concept is clear and doubts are removed, I tend to use questions from past paper that challenge the tutee. Marking schemes and exam reports are used to re-inforce learning
