I am 22 years old, and a recent graduate of the University of St. Andrews (June 2008). I attained a 2:1 degree classification in Art History and Modern History, Joint Honours. I am originally from New York City, and I have been living in the UK since I began university in 2004. History is my strongest subject, and I pursued it to dissertation level at university, specializing in 20th century Europe. Teaching Experience:
I have experience teaching in a museum setting, as I assisted visiting school groups at the Talbot Rice Gallery in Edinburgh during my internship there. Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring is very much centered on what the tutee wants to achieve. I would like for he or she to feel that the progress he/she makes is contributing towards a goal he/she has outlined, rather than an imposed one. We will agree on a clear goal for each tutoring session, and we will begin each session with a review of the previous session's material. I feel that repetition and review are very important, and I will assign tasks for each session so that this is followed through. It is also important to use hands-on learning, so wherever it is beneficial we will use a computer, books, images, creative projects, etc. to help illustrate points. Tutoring is also about building confidence in a subject, so I will also focus on changing the tutee's approach to the subject. I am a very patient person, and I know that everyone learns differently, so above all, I will tailor the tutoring to the tutee's goals and needs.

I'm a seventeen year old student in Brighton. I'm currently studying for my A Levels at Sussex Downs College in Lewes.
My mother is Spanish and has spoken to me in Spanish from birth, hence why I'm bilingual and sound like a native speaker.

My main area of focus is speaking as that is what students learning a language tend to find most challenging, however I will also include reading and writing in the sessions. I am a student at the University of Manchester currently in my second year studying French and Spanish. I love learning languages, and this year I studying Portuguese as part of my course. I love the French culture too and I'd like to transmit this to my students; I believe that learning languages is highly important, especially in the current climate where language learning is often neglected in schools, particularly the oral aspect. I am very committed, for example, I have a black belt in tae kwon-do, which took 10 practical examinations and 5 years to achieve!

Teaching Experience:
I organised work experience in a campsite in France, where I was entertaining children through games and activities. I take part in mentoring through an online website, advising young people about their educational paths and anything else they wish to talk about. I know how daunting it can be speaking in front of a large class, and through one-on-one tutoring, I aim to enhance my students' confidence with oral, grammatical and written French. I am a great believer in tailoring learning to be fun; for example, after six sessions of concentrated work, I might plan a session watching a foreign film, noting new vocabulary then discussing the themes of the film afterwards. I have recently completed a degree at Oxford University in Modern Languages (Spanish and Portuguese) and am able to teach in the Sheffield/Chesterfield area.

My degree consisted of language modules (translation from and into the target language, essay writing, aural and oral skills) and literature modules (Spanish and Portuguese). I spent a year abroad, half the year in Brazil and half the year in Madrid, Spain, which allowed me to be completely immersed in the languages I studied and furthered my teaching experience.

Teaching Experience:
I have taught English as a Foreign Language in Brazil, Spain and the UK - both freelance and for prestigious language schools, such as Berlitz, OISE and OIC. I have therefore had the experience of following set lesson plans and creating my own and I have taught Spanish to English and non-English speakers. I have taught in well-known businesses and institutions (Accenture, Saint Gobain, Enel, Universidad Autonoma Madrid), provided tuition for professional qualifications and also for recreational purposes.

Tutoring Approach:
Given my status as recent graduate, I can relate to the difficulties a student might have and the skills and techniques which I used in my own degree are still very much a part of how I communicate.

When I first meet a tutee, my priority is to ascertain what they hope to gain from the lessons and work from there. Some tutees want to pass a particular professional exam (A-Level, GCSE, etc) and so I would spend a lot of time researching the nature and structure of the exam. Other tutees want to be able to converse when abroad, either for business or recreational purposes and so the skills they require are slightly different. Every student is different. The materials I use with the student will also depend on their interests and requirements.

The next key thing is to focus on what the tutee needs most help with and this will be a focal point of the tutorial - there is no point in spending an hour on something the tutee can do perfectly!

My lessons are varied. I only spend 10-15 minutes on each task and will focus on a slightly different aspect of the subject.

Academic tutorials generally focus on the following:
1. Reading and textual analysis (which in turn aids vocabulary expansion and sentence structure)
2. Oral communication
3. Essay skills (how to structure an essay, how to argue a point most effectively, stylistic improvements, etc)

For more recreational lessons, the lesson will completely depend on what the tutee would enjoy the most.

My combined experience as recent graduate and teacher, as well as my absolute enthusiasm for my subjects will ensure that my student will get the most from any lesson!

Personal Description:
I am a young actor living in London. I also write and direct poetry, plays and films. As my father was a Diplomat I spent much of my early life abroad: in Cuba, Hungary and the United States.

After studying Maths, English and Russian at Eton College I spent a year studying acting in New York and cooking in an English restaurant, then studied English and Drama at Bristol and have just finished a BA in Acting at LAMDA. When I'm not writing or in the theatre I'm in the kitchen experimenting.

I have tutored several students over the past two years in London. I have helped with English A-Level papers for a boy who got an A grade and will start at Bristol this autumn. I also taught essay-writing and exam technique to a girl who will be starting medicine at Cambridge this autumn.

I am 25 years old and am a working actor and singer. I went to Tonbridge school where I studied Engish, Spanish, Politics and History for A-level. I went to university in Nottingham after having rejected a place to study SPS at Cambridge in order to study English at Nottingham. I graduated with a 2:1 in 2007. Tutoring Approach:
I like to prep all of the texts/syllabuses of my students and work through them in a relaxed, attentive environment. I like to use games and music to help in learning. My passion is for literature and I also like to use dramatic techniques and film and multimedia to aid learning and to make 'homework' more fun. I think it is hugely important to instill confidence, particularly in children - as a performer I feel I can give the confidence to approach work in a fun and confidence-building manner. I feel my students can teach me a huge amount as well.
