| Personal Description: I am a 20 year old female university student studying a French and Japanese BA at Cardiff university. I am currently in my second year and I'm hoping to find some people who would like me to help them with their learning, because helping others to learn only reinforces what you already know, and I like to keep my brain active! |
Teaching Experience: At the moment I have no proper experience as a tutor, the closest I can claim to have had is helping my neighbour's children with ICT and helping my younger sister with French. I would like to try being a tutor as I've been told it's an enjoyable experience, and will give me some valuable experience for when I begin a teaching course after university. |
Tutoring Approach: I am willing to teach in a variety of ways, both online and offline, as well as helping you/your child to advance in the learning of your chosen subject. I would begin by assessing how far the tutee has already progressed in the subject and try to work out any weak areas, and then continue by creating exercises and situations designed to try and improve in those areas. For example; if I were tutoring the tutee in French and I found that their weakness was in the spoken language, I would have conversations with them and try to involve them in activities that use French language, such as watching French programmes, listening to French radio or the opportunity to speak with a native French speaker. I would also record the conversations so that the tutee could listen to them later and hear their own mistakes, then work on trying to correct them. If the tutoring were a completely online situation, I would communicate with the tutee via all methods of internet communication (IM, skype, e-mail) and use a similar approach to the one I would in person. |

| Personal Description: I am currently studying English and Portuguese literature at king's college London university. Over the last 4 years I have tutored English, Spanish, Portuguese and writing skills to students across London. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and feel that being a student myself I am aware of the difficulties that students face. |
Teaching Experience: I am a very experienced tutor, having taught my own brother, his friends, and having been hired by numerous individuals to tutor their children. I have tutored students from the age of 6 to 20, educating not only on the subject matter, but also giving techniques on exam papers and coursework writing. I am always up for a challenge and am looking forward to hearing from you. |
Tutoring Approach: I am a very responsible person and take my job seriously, however do believe that in order for a child to benefit from tuition they have to see the work at hand as fun - this is where I feel that my experience with a diverse range of children gives me an advantage over other tutors. |

| Personal Description: I am currently a doctoral researcher undertaking my PhD at The University of Glasgow, a personal tutor, a proof reader, a note taker and a support worker for various universities and agencies. I also hold a BA (Hons) undergraduate degree and an MLitt (Master of Letters) postgraduate degree. I am a qualified personal tutor in 15 subject areas and am rated a 10/10 tutor by Alpha Tutors. I also do some freelance writing and have contributed numerous articles to the website Helium, most of which are voted number one in their category, I have also had several articles published in society newsletters and publications, including The International Crosby Circle and The Sinatra Music Society. I have organised an international conference, a departmental postgraduate symposium and presented papers at both events. |
Teaching Experience: I work as a Top-Up Tutor for the University of Glasgow where I go to different schools and prepare S5 and S6 students for university; as a Proof Reader, Note Taker and Support Worker for disabled students at the University of the West of Scotland and am a freelance personal on-line and off-line tutor qualified in 15 subject areas including English Language, English Literature, Media Studies, Film Studies, and General Writing Skills. I work via Alpha Tutors, UK Tutors, Tutors4Kids and Fleet Tutors and teach from pre-exam age to Standard Grade, Higher, GCSE, A-Level, University level and Adult Learners. I have been tutoring since August 2007 and have chalked up around 400 tutoring hours in these subjects. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that learning should be fun and in a relaxed atmosphere but at the same time academic and useful. My approach to teaching is to have the tutor and student both feel that they are getting a lot out of the experience and that the time is being well used. I will break down subjects into easily manageable blocks and make sure that my student understands the unit before moving on. I also like to vary my tutorials by having some in the form of lectures, some in the form of question and answers, some where I will give students feedback on homework they have done and suggestions to improve what they have done, etc. I also find that on-line tuition is the best method and students can ask questions that they may not ask if they were face-to-face with someone, it is a much more relaxed approach but students get a lot out of it (and can save all the notes from lessons for use later on) |

| Personal Description: Having studied English at University and gaining a 2:1 Honours Degree, I entered the Teach First graduate scheme. I have been teaching full time in Richmond since September 2008 and in August 2010 will be moving to Australia to teach on the Gold Coast. In my spare time I enjoy skiing, live music and horse riding. |
Teaching Experience: Secondary School English and Citizenship teacher at Shene School from September 2008 to present. I also tutor students after school in English at both primary and secondary levels. |
Tutoring Approach: The first meeting will begin with an informal assessment of the student and their tuition needs. I will set the student specific targets that they wish to achieve over the tuition time. Aside from this, I can adapt my tuition style to what suits the student's needs best, be it more conversational based to understand a concept or more written based to allow practice at handwriting skills. |

| Personal Description: Harvey Parkes left his birthplace of Greater Manchester at an early age, and his formative years were spent in Spain. Of Icelandic descent, Harvey remains close to his ancestral roots, and has experienced a wide variety of cultures, people and places during his lifetime. Originally a Chemistry undergraduate, Harvey's professional career has taken in activism, journalism, anti-fraud senior management, and even (despite a total inability to draw) cartooning. Family ill-health saw Harvey move back north in 2001 and, after nursing his mother, Harvey decided to change career and move into filmmaking. Harvey is a first-class honours graduate in Moving Image at the University of Central Lancashire. He is also recognised as a leading authority in cognitivism and Deleuzean philosophy within the work of the Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier. As well as his writer/director output under the name Balti and Havana, Harvey has established a large corporate client base through his work under the banner of Elegua Productions. Harvey is currently shortlisted for the UK Young Screen Entrepreneur award for 2008; the region's only industry professional to make the shortlist for this honour. |
Teaching Experience: For the past two years Harvey has taught professional broadcast directing to third-year undergraduates at the University of Salford. Harvey has previously lectured at the University of Central Lancashire, and is also an available lecturer for the University of Bolton. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tuition is one that best encourages the importance of discovery and the broadening of horizons within each student. Film, in particular, suffers for not being thought of as a cerebral industry when nothing could be further from the truth. Using my broad knowledge base both in the industry and beyond, I use an informal and conversational style in order to break complex work down into its constituent parts; revealing the building blocks that make up all of cinema, and helping students to understand and explain how and why pieces of work succeed or fail. I am not a tutor who spoonfeeds facts by rote, preferring instead to cultivate an attitude of critical thought and understanding within each student which they can go on to apply throughout their life. |
