Personal Description:
My name is Kay and I am 23 years old. I qualified as a teacher in July 2009.

Teaching Experience:

I trained for 4 years at Brighton University and I completed 4 different school placements ranging from 3 years old- 10 years old. At the moment I am doing supply teaching in and around surrey teacher Foundation stage, Key stage 1 and key stage 2.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that sometimes children need that one-to-one support with an adult or a teacher so they can be certain that they understand the topic in question. Being able to work one-to-one can build their confidence and can enable them to become more confident when knowing what is going on when they are in school.

Personal Description:
Hello, I am a very friendly and outgoing 23 year old man from Aberdeen. I am a recent law graduate and have a record of good academic achievement. I am friendly, patient and have an organised goal-orientated approach. In my spare time away from university I play 5-aside football and enjoy playing squash.

Teaching Experience:

I have assisted some family friends in Higher English and Higher Modern Studies. Furthermore I am accustomed to helping young people with their studies because I have a nephew who is of secondary school age. Although I may not have vast experience, I bring a determined and pragmatic approach to gaining the best results for my students whilst maintaining a sense of enjoyment.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to gain a friendly rapport with my pupils and then assess exactly what they need help with. This would involve looking over the objectives and deadlines of the course involved and formulating a plan with the student. I would then assess the students strengths/weaknesses and anxieties to determine where our initial focus would lie.

Personal Description:
I am 29 years old and have been an English teacher for 5 years. Having recently moved from Devon with a young family, i am now seeking more flexibility in my career. I relish the challenges that teaching provides to work with young people to develop their knowledge and understanding of a subject and hope that one-to-one home tutoring will provide a valuable forum to work closely with a variety of children to help them to achieve their dreams and aspirations.

Teaching Experience:

I have been an English teacher for 5 years and have experience across the 11-18 age and ability range. During that time I have developed a confident and motivational teaching style which I hope inspires my students to try their best. I have a particular interest in using learning styles to inform the delivery of my lessons, to ensure that the information being conveyed is accessible to each and every child.

Tutoring Approach:

Being new to home tutoring I will start from the beginning with each and every student. This will involve finding out about their preferred learning styles, what their strengths and weaknesses might be and what current areas of English they are studying in school. Finally I will discuss what the child and their parents want to achieve through a home tutor, this will then enable me to create a individualised teaching programme that is targetted towards their needs and goals.

I am a patient and considerate teacher and believe in creating a positive learning environment to inspire confidence and motivation in my students to enable them to achieve their full potential.

Personal Description:
I am currently doing an open degree in Law, I have 1 more year left until it is complete. I will then be going into teaching at a Secondary school.

I currently work in a Secondary school as a lesson cover teacher, I have just been taken on as an unqualified teacher in Maths keystage 3 & 4 and GCSE Law, also have a lesson in ICT Maths, this class is based on functional skills to help with the students that struggle with key subjects.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working in a secondary school for two years as a classroom based teacher. Although i have a broad knowledge of most subjects taught in a school, my speciality is Maths and Law.

Tutoring Approach:

First of all I would need to establish exactly what the student is finding difficult about the subject and tackle this problem by giving easy ways to explain it. I have found from my previous teaching experience that students engage in approaching the subject by comparing it with their own lives, this gives them more of an understanding of the particular subject.

Personal Description:
I am a mother of three young girls ranging from 11 - 2 years old. I have often been frustrated with how rigid the school environment can be and how it can fail to provide the personal support that at times they have required. I have had to inject a significant amount of time and effort to make up for this shortfall. I understand that the resources are limited but it is a fact of life that students who require a little extra can often miss out. It is my personal experience with my own children that has motivated me into becoming a private tutor. I can imagine that it must be even more frustrating for those parents who want to provide additional support for their children, but perhaps are unsure of how to, due to lack of knowledge about the education system. I hope that my personal experience as a parent combined with my professional experience as a teacher will help to bridge that gap.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently teaching at a large comprehensive in Old Hill. I teach a variety of Business and Economic courses at GCSE and A Level. I am also responsible for moderating the level 1 and 2 Key skills courses ( Maths, English and ICT) for the school.
I teach BTEC Levels 1, 2 and 3, VGCSE, GCSE and A Level.
I have also taught KS3 Maths and English on a one to one basis for students who have found these subjects challenging.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very focused about ensuring that my teaching meets the needs of the individual. This is not always possible in a classroom, however, the beauty of one to one tutoring is that the teaching and delivery is custom to the individual.
My experience of one to one is that significant progress can be made by the students. In particular their confidence in their own ability develops helping them to continue to make progress even when the tutoring has finished.
Communication is vital, the only way that I am able to meet the specific needs of each student is if effective communication between parents, student and tutor takes place. This doesn't have to be formal - often little passing comments made by students are indications of what is really causing problems or barriers to their learning.
Finally I would ensure that my sessions are a positive experience that students enjoy rather than dread. Tutoring isn't school, it isn't about rules and structure, its about the student.

Personal Description:
I am a CELTA qualified teacher with a wide range of experience including teaching both children and adults in the UK and abroad. I also have experience in customer service: till, catering and bar work. I am particularly interested in charity work and have volunteering experience with various projects and charities. I spent four years of my childhood in Germany so I have a good knowledge of German and have studied French to A-Level standard. My interests are in travel and music and I also play the cello to above grade 5 standard so may be able to teach beginner cellists.

Teaching Experience:

I have an extensive range of experience teaching both adults and children in the UK and abroad:

July-August 2008: CELT Language School, Cardiff.
- Responsibilities included teaching intensive one-to-one classes to a beginner Omani man, in order for him to join the elementary class at the start of the academic year. As well as this I had various intermediate and higher intermediate classes, including teaching aviation English to a group of Kuwaiti pilots, and I joined the summer school programme for teenagers which, alongside teaching, involved organising tourist trips around Cardiff.

June-July 2008: EF Language School, Brighton:
- Responsibilities included two main classes of teenagers and adults at upper-intermediate level as well as vocabulary, grammar and special skills classes at advanced and elementary levels.

February-April 2008: Migrant English Project, Brighton:
- Voluntary teaching to an Iranian man one-to-one, focussing on his areas of interest and topics of his choice, to provide a supportive environment for him to further his English fluency.

August 2007: WILS Language School, Seoul, South Korea:
- Responsibilities involved planning and organising a schedule for the summer school with a group of four other teachers as well as teaching and caring for twenty 8-14 year old children. Classes took place every day for five hours and were followed by activities and supported homework sessions.

April-July 2006: Inca Tupac-Yupanky High School, Chinchero, Peru:
- Three months voluntary teaching at a local high school with five classes of 11-15 year olds at beginner-lower intermediate levels.

October 2005-March 2006: King Charles Adult Education Centre, Surrey:
- Four months teaching evening classes to migrants at First Certificate and elementary levels. Difficulties included supporting an Afghani man who was unable to read or write in the English script and preparing the FCE class for their exam following a disruptive term.

October 2005-March 2006: 'Free Talking' Online Programme:
- Four months teaching and conversation classes with a Korean girl via the internet to improve her fluency and conversational skills.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in a patient and flexible approach to tutoring, with a strong emphasis on the student, their areas of difficulty and their pace of understanding. I also believe in creativity and using creative lesson materials and alternative approaches to help students to see their difficulty from another approach.

Personal Description:
I am currently working as a scientist for a biotech company. But i love teaching and so would like to take up tutoring as a part time work...I am sure i can make understanding difficult subjects much easy and interesting.

Teaching Experience:

I do not possess any teaching experience but use to do it as a hobby when i was at university. I use to teach my sister and her friends.

Tutoring Approach:

I would make learning very easy for the tutee. Usually, students lose interest in subjects which are a bit hard and difficult to understand, by teaching these subjects in a very comprehensive way, making it look very simple and easy, can create interest in the students.I believe in creating enthusiasm and a zest towards learning. Learning should me made fun and easy.

Personal Description:
I am a very friendly and approachable person and engage well with people of all ages and abilities. I like to meet new people and learn new things myself whenever possible. I enjoy sport and culture and my favourite hobby is to travel.

I have a strong Law background having studied Law at A Level, at University (Manchester) and post-grad at Law School in London (Legal Practice course and LLM Masters in Professional Legal Practice, achieving a Distinction in both. I have 5 Grade A's at A Level in Law, English, Psychology, Business Studies and General Studies. I also have 6 A* and 4A's at GCSE.

I particularly enjoy English, having studied English Language at A Level and I have excellent written and spoken language skills as a result, so I am happy to tutor reading and language skills.

Teaching Experience:

I have had experience tutoring pupils in several capacities. For 2 years I tutored primary school pupils in Hull under a government initiated scheme to improve literacy and IT skills. I am currently working on a monthly basis assisting with primary school children in inner city London. At university I also mentored fellow students which involved assisting them with certain issues of research when required and for the past year I have been successfully tutoring GCSE, A Level and Degree level students.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a very conscientous and thorough approach but always take time to make sure that students understand and encourage questions to aid this understanding. I like to work in a structured way but also take a lighthearted approach when I feel this is appropriate. I like to make the most of all of the time available, but also think it is important to build up a rapport with pupils and allow them to enjoy the process as much as possible whilst learning.

Personal Description:
I am a 26-year-old qualified English teacher with an MA degree in English Literature. I am starting a PhD in English Literature (Modern Fiction) at Durham University this October. English has always fascinated me and imparting my knowledge to others has been a pleasure and a reward. I am interested in Modernist as well as contemporary literature as much as in British culture and geography. I wish to share my passion with my students in order to help them realize that learning a language is not only useful but great fun if taught and approached in the right way.

Teaching Experience:

My English teaching experience covers working for Anglophiles Academic at their summer camps for French students in York and Skegness (twice), EFL tuition at three language schools in Poland as well as teaching practice in two Polish secondary schools. What is more, I have been teaching one-to-one for the past six years to students of all ages and various nationalities (including French, Italian, German, Korean and Polish). I have prepared four students for their A-level examinations, which they passed with flying colours. I have also taught English to children and adults of all levels and with various difficulties.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe learning is all about attitude and motivation. Language can be taught in a variety of ways, but the key is to choose the method that is most fruitful in an individual case. Forcing a language in is ineffective and unprofessional. The focus should be on practice rather than theory, though both are necessary for the student to develop their language skills. Theory must always be supported with lots and lots of practice - be it grammar and vocabulary exercises, games, films, music, television or newspaper articles - anything that will keep the student in touch with the language system. In short, the key to success is the student's positive attitude and interest in the subject (both of which the teacher can help develop) and the continuity of exposure to a given language, which the teacher should provide, plus the practice of grammar and vocabulary.

Personal Description:
I've just finished Sixth Form completing the subjects English Literature, Psychology and Chemistry and I hope to attend University this september. Looking to tutor for something to add on my CV and as a part-time job, with my forte being English (predicted A grade for A-Level). All tutees welcome, with prices negotiable!

Teaching Experience:

No formal teaching experience but I have helped tutor friends, siblings and other groups of children from my Sixth form. Lots of experience working with kids - I ran a badminton club for the duration of my A-Level studies, so the environment is familiar to me.

Tutoring Approach:

I think with any subject, building blocks need to be worked upon by tutor, tutee and parents. This ensures a vast array of knowledge is covered over any particular subject. I'm new to tutoring but I intend to set regular ongoing homework, implementing resources such as flash cards, pop quizes and other techniques which i've adapted to ensure retainment of knowledge. Also learning syllabuses/marking criteria is essential, allowing me to best evolve the work of the tutee.

Personal Description:
I am a TEFL teacher with a university degree (Music) and am from London. In my day job I teach English to foreign students in London in a British Council-accredited language school. I am a very friendly person and really enjoy teaching any age group.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching TEFL in a language school for two years, and have given private tuition in English and in Music for 9 years for all levels of learners. I have qualifications in English, French, Music and Maths and have experience teaching all ages from children as young as 6 up to adults.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to be as learner-centred as possible in my teaching. First I will conduct a needs analysis to assess a potential student's level and to identify the areas in which they would like to improve and their preferred learning methods. I encourage my students to actively participate in my lessons - it will not just be me talking. I aim to make lessons fun and engaging, as I believe that students learn more when they are interested in the material given.

Personal Description:
I am 57 years old and have just retired from full time teaching after 33 years. I live in Eastbourne in East Sussex. Despite retirement I wish to continue teaching but on a one to one basis rather than in a school or college environment. Apart from teaching experience I also have experience as an examiner in GCSE and A Level English. Initially I taught social sciences but for the last 18 years I have taught English, both Language and Literature as well as Basic Literacy. I have a BA (Hons.), a Masters and a Doctorate as well as a teaching qualification.

Teaching Experience:

- 11-16 comprehensive school
- two different sixth form colleges
- two different colleges of further education
- Open University

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is based on a clear undertstanding of the particular needs of the student. This is based on a thorough discussion with parents and some initial diagnostic work. Each session will define skills and or knowledge the student is aspiring to in that session. A very short, usually verbal, assessment will take place at the end of the session. Each session will begin with a revision of previous work. A proper programme, with targets, will be agreed with parents and student beforehand. I have a relaxed and friendly approach to teaching whilst ensuring that all allotted time is used purposefully.

Personal Description:
In 2005, I graduated from The University of Reading with an upper second class degree in English and History of Art: my modules included 10 Shakespeare plays, Renaissance Women's Writing, Modern Drama, and my dissertation was based on the myth of Pygmalion in Literature and Art.
I completed my teaching qualification last year, and am now qualified to teach English to secondary aged students. I love reading Shakespeare plays and my lifetime ambition is to read all his works. I also enjoy going to the theatre, playing tennis and regularly write poems and prose in my blog, so I can pass this enthusiasm for reading and writing onto students.

Teaching Experience:

I specialise in teaching 3-16 year olds English reading, writing and conversation.

Preschool - I am currently teaching a 3 year old boy and a 3 year girl the first stages of reading and writing.

Year 1- I teach reading, writing and conversation to a 5 year old boy.

Year 2 - I am preparing a 7 year old boy for his key stage 1 exams.

Year 6 - I prepared an 11 year old boy for this Key Stage 2 exams, by studying past papers and teaching him successful exam techniques.

Year 7 - 2 mixed ability classes, where I taught the poem 'Boewulf' and the play, 'Smith'. I also taught a creative writing module.

12 year old student - I prepared this tutee for her 12+ grammar school exam. This student was consequently offered a place at the grammar school of her choice.

Year 8 - 2 top set classes, where I taught advertising, Shakespeare and poetry modules.

Year 9 - 1 lower set and 1 top set class, where I prepared students for the Shakespeare, Reading and Writing SATs papers.

Year 10 - 1 middle set group - 'Romeo and Juliet' GCSE coursework.

Two adult ESOL tutees - I taught them English grammar and conversation.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a patient tutor, who has high expectations and always gets the best out of her pupils, so they progress to achieve their full potential. I love talking about language and Shakespeare, and this passion for English is evident in my tutoring lessons. Similarly, I am fascinated by history and historical events and this interest comes across in my teaching. Overall, I am an enthusiastic, gentle and caring tutor, who helps students become confident about the subject they are studying. I am also ambitious for my students and push them to tackle challenging tasks to become more intelligent individuals. I tutor adults and children, so I am flexible in my approach and easy to talk to.

Personal Description:
Hi! My name is Francesca and would love to help your children achieve their goals!

In June 2008 I completed my Primary PGCE at the University of Cambridge achieving Qualified Teacher Status, having previously graduated from the University of Manchester in 2007 with a 2.1 in Psychology. I am currently teaching a Year 5 class in local Cambridge.

As I am working as teacher, I am available weekday evenings, weekends during term time and any time during the holidays. I am willing to travel further afield if expenses were covered.

Finally, I don't see teaching as "just a job", it is my passion! I am highly-motivated, caring and will 'give anything a go'!

Teaching Experience:

I am currently working as a year 5 teacher in a school in the Cambridge area (however, I have worked with Years 1/2, 4, and 6 during teaching practice). I absolutely love the challenge and the fact that everyday is different.

Although I have not been a qualified teacher for long, I have worked with children in all aspects of life from a relatively young age.
- I have worked at Center Parcs in the Time Out club since 2005 where I help run activities for children from 3 months to 14 years; I am still working their part time during the holidays.
- I also worked for Kids Unlimited Nurseries from Oct 2004 till 2007 working with children from a 'learning through play' perspective.
- In 2003 and 2004 I worked for the Norfolk Autistic Society with giving respite care to parents of children with Autism and Aspergers Syndrome.
- From 2000-2003 I also helped out in a Harford Manor Special Needs School in Norwich on a voluntary basis.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that children need to feel comfortable and secure in their surroundings before they are able to put their whole mind into learning. So I would aim to get to know each student well, exploring their own learning style, strengths and areas with need of support. It is also important to make students work towards their own goals, rather than constantly measuring them up to the 'national averages'. However, in times of stress where children are working towards external exams I can help them reach these more standardised aims.
