Personal Description:
I am a mother of three young girls ranging from 11 - 2 years old. I have often been frustrated with how rigid the school environment can be and how it can fail to provide the personal support that at times they have required. I have had to inject a significant amount of time and effort to make up for this shortfall. I understand that the resources are limited but it is a fact of life that students who require a little extra can often miss out. It is my personal experience with my own children that has motivated me into becoming a private tutor. I can imagine that it must be even more frustrating for those parents who want to provide additional support for their children, but perhaps are unsure of how to, due to lack of knowledge about the education system. I hope that my personal experience as a parent combined with my professional experience as a teacher will help to bridge that gap.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently teaching at a large comprehensive in Old Hill. I teach a variety of Business and Economic courses at GCSE and A Level. I am also responsible for moderating the level 1 and 2 Key skills courses ( Maths, English and ICT) for the school.
I teach BTEC Levels 1, 2 and 3, VGCSE, GCSE and A Level.
I have also taught KS3 Maths and English on a one to one basis for students who have found these subjects challenging.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very focused about ensuring that my teaching meets the needs of the individual. This is not always possible in a classroom, however, the beauty of one to one tutoring is that the teaching and delivery is custom to the individual.
My experience of one to one is that significant progress can be made by the students. In particular their confidence in their own ability develops helping them to continue to make progress even when the tutoring has finished.
Communication is vital, the only way that I am able to meet the specific needs of each student is if effective communication between parents, student and tutor takes place. This doesn't have to be formal - often little passing comments made by students are indications of what is really causing problems or barriers to their learning.
Finally I would ensure that my sessions are a positive experience that students enjoy rather than dread. Tutoring isn't school, it isn't about rules and structure, its about the student.

Personal Description:
I currently study French for an MA and have just returned from a year living and working in France, teaching English in a high school near Lille.

I'm absolutely committed to doing the best job I can. Being a student and only 20, I have very recent experience of GCSEs and A-levels myself, and as such know how difficult it can be, but also more importanly, which areas are important to focus on. A-level subjects that I have first-hand experience of are Economics (also at undergraduate level), French (also my main degree subject) and English (language and literature).

I would also love to help out if you've got entrance exams for secondary school coming up - I remember having them myself and have just helped my sister through.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience teaching and tutoring pupils aged 7 to 25. Below are my most recent relevant roles:

Teaching English in a French high school near Lille (2008-9) - General English, English for Hospitality
Working in a preparatory school (age 4-13), English and Art departments (2008)
Tutoring English as a Foreign Language to beginners (age 9-10)
Tutoring pupils struggling with Literacy (age 11-12)

Tutoring Approach:

Having recently been through the exam system myself (I'm 20 and finished school in 2006), I know which areas are particularly important or need most attention.
I remember how difficult it can be to understand some subjects, especially at a fast pace in large classes. I hope to provide you with a little extra help at a pace that suits you in the areas that you struggle with.
I'm dedicated to making sure you get the best help possible, and I spend time preparing excellent materials before your session. I'm also availabe whenever you need me and (since I'm a student) I can make most times - even at short notice if you give me a ring, so you can easily fit your extra tuition around your schedule.

Personal Description:
I am an undergraduate of Economics at the University of Bath. I study a heavily Maths based subject and have A-Levels in Further Mathematics and Economics.

Teaching Experience:

I tought English over the summer at a Chinese University, for classes of up to 12 students and ran evening events and outdoor activities for up to 60 individuals.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is very pupil based. It will generally revolve heavily around the syllabus of the subject the pupil is studying. Dependent on the pupil the topics covered may revolve around those studied at school or on entirely seperate topics. My tutorign style is based very question based rather than theory based, as I believe theory is easier to undersatnd if it is applied to a question.

I have just graduated from Warwick University with BSc (Hons) Engineering and Business Studies, and is currently planning to do a Masters. During my time in the university, I have taken two economics module which both gained 1st class. In the past, I had strong results in my GCSE science (AA), ICT (A) and Maths (A*) which remained some of my strongest areas. I also gained grade 8 in Piano (introductory piano lessons are available on request) and fluency in Mandarin Chinese with native oral skills.

Teaching Experience:

I first gained teaching experience while tutoring some relatives on various subjects. Later in the sixth form, I participated in a community sports leadership award which involved going to primary schools to teach PE. During my time in university, I had an internship abroad in Russia where I taught and lead a group of about 30 kids from age 12-15 in a summer camp.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to engage and develop a student's interest in the subject first before starting the lesson, this is to increase motivation and attention so that more information can be absorbed and remembered. I also like to get to know the student first and tailor the lesson plan according to their needs and ability.

Currently teaching second year undergraduates in Psychology at the University (since last year). Not much formal teaching experience in Biology and Economics but done both subjects at an A-level equivalent.

Personal Description:
I love teaching anyone who is willing to learn. Teaching for me is not just about getting paid, its also about the satisfaction I get from knowing that a life has been changed by the knowledge I transfered.

I am currently a Postgraduate student at the University of Surrey taking an Msc in Energy Economics and Policy.

I lived and schooled in France, Paris for a little above three years and have since then perfected my language skills.

Teaching Experience:

Though I do not have any "formal" teaching experience, I can say that I have been teaching all my life; organising tutorials for fellow students, teaching at my local church and so on. Teaching for me is more of a gift.

Tutoring Approach:

Learning should be enjoyed and voluntary, no one should be forced to learn as this is the number one cause of failure. I believe that each student should discover his/her passion and learn in line with that passion.

I aim at helping students discover that area of passion and then integrate the courses they are obliged to take into that passion.

Recently graduated with a 2.1 Honours Degree in Economics, i enjoy tutoring and have done so at university with 1st and 2nd year undergraduates, alongside children from Primary Age to Secondary.

Teaching Experience:

Having completed GCSE's, A-Levels and a Degree recently I can relate to the setup of current exams, I currently tutor students of all ages, with a range of abilities.

I work by setting targets out at the beginning of lesson so we know what we must achieve. I charge a fair rate and want my students to learn as much as possible within that time.

Focussing on where the student needs help, and finding the most appropriate solution. I don't pressurise students and allow them to work at a pace they find comfortable, but push them to ensure they challenge themselves.

Personal Description:
I am quite a jovial perso who enjoys the vocation of teaching; I love to see the light go on in a learner. I am an Englishman abroad and wouldnt change where I live for a moment.

I am a keen musician (very amatuer) and my limited spare time is spent in my home studio mucking about and not getting anything actually achieved. I also enjoy the restoration of my Chapel which, like the Forth bridge, will never be finished!

I am a dog owner and nature lover and have a broad teaching style; I prefer the learner to dictate the style and I find the methods to fit.

Please feel free to ask questions.

Thank you

Teaching Experience:

I have been a teacher for over 15 years which culminated in a Head of Dept roll for the last 5 (Business Studies). I have been very fortunate in my career to have taught all age groups many different subjects. I am currently out of mainstream schools but remain in education as the ICT assessor for Shropshire CC which has provided me with different skills and approaches rather than classroom led instruction.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a holistic type and I always want the learner to be happy with an answer they give and know "why" the answr is correct. I hopefully bring humour (debatable) and a wide variety of methods to my teaching along with contemporary examples.

At present I am available in the evenings but if all goes well then I will be extending that to daytim availability too.

Personal Description:
Hello, I am an 18 year old who has just finished his A-levels, with high A grades in all subjects, and I hope I can help you. I am passionate about my subjects and I also don't have any money so I will try my best to improve your knowledge and understanding of the course. Obviously if you feel as if I have not been of assistance then I'm not going to charge you!

Teaching Experience:

This is my first time tutoring, although I am used to working in study groups and helping others.

Tutoring Approach:

How I like to work is this; we have a little talk about the subject, and then agree the general areas in which you need help. We can then meet either at your house, my house or the library or a cafe or wherever is suitable and work through the parts of the course you are struggling with.

Personal Description:
I am an Irish 21 year old male moving to Bristol on the 17th of Septemeber to start a MSc at the University of Bristol.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience as a Special Needs Assistant working in a primary school classroom environment with children suffering various mental and physical disabilities.

I spent the past year teaching in a private international boarding school in Montreux, Switzerland. The courses I delivered were in Economics, Business, English Business and Intermediate Buiness Studies.

Tutoring Approach:

As I tutor I generally follow the course that the client is undertaking (if they are undertaking a specific course e.g. Business for GCSE). We would look at the topics they are undertaking in class and go over the parts they are finding difficult. I would complement this with my own examples and case studies to ensure 100% comprehension.

In terms of exams, full exam preperation would be given.

Personal Description:
A recent graduate from Queen Mary, University of London where I obtained a BSc degree in Economics, and currently studying for a Masters in Applied Econometrics. During university, I've had part time jobs as an Assistant tutor and an Activity Manager of an international summer camp. I am also mid-way in completing my Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award, where I took up teaching as part of my community service. I have always enjoyed teaching, and find it to be a hobby rather than a profession. I believe I am a friendly and approachable person, where building a rapport with young people comes with ease.

Teaching Experience:

Assistant Teacher - Cube Learning. Helping children aged 11-12 prepare for entrance exams, teaching maths, english, verbal and non-verbal reasoning skills.
Assistant Tutor - Explore Learning. Assisting children aged 4-13 with maths and reading skills.
Private Tuition - I have been providing maths tuition sessions ad hoc for 6 years, ranging from KS3 to AS level maths, and one year giving economics lessons. Since tutoring on a full-time basis, I've helped about 30-40 students with College and Undergraduate studies

Tutoring Approach:

It is not only the tutor's job to teach a certain subject, but also to build confidence in that subject. I encourage students to grasp a detailed knowledge of any basic mathematical and economic skills (ensuring all pre-requisite knowledge and skills are of standard). Once core skills are achieved, students can pick up most concepts quickly. I try to adapt learning methods to individual students, taking into account other subjects and how the student learns.

It is also imperative that students learn to think for themselves, and I encourage students to work logically and methodically leaving less room for error, and students can then correct their own work if necessary, becoming more independent. All this builds up enough confidence in a student to sit an exam and pass with ease.

When tutoring, I encourage students to engage fully in the sessions, and I'm more than willing to go above and beyond to ensure any uncertainties a student has are cleared up.
