Personal Description:
Oxford graduate with more than fifteen years' experience as a private tutor and consistently excellent results in Latin, Greek, Classics and English.
Studied Classics at Oxford University and awarded an academic scholarship.
Earned a Master's Degree with Distinction in Latin literature at UCL. Awarded the Dean's Prize.
Since then, I have been working as an award-winning arts journalist alongside my work as a private tutor.
Teaching Experience:
Private tutor for fifteen years, with significant experience in private tuition of Latin, Greek and English at all levels, and excellent exam results achieved by my students.
*LATIN/GREEK*
Classroom experience as teacher of Latin at a prep school and teaching assistant for primary school Latin classes.
In-depth, up-to-date knowledge of the current syllabuses for Common Entrance, GCSE and A-level, as well as all major textbooks, including Oxford and Cambridge Latin Courses, Athenaze, Greek to GCSE, Shelmerdine, ISEB Common Entrance publications and other frequently used courses. I also have a wide range of my own resources.
*ENGLISH*
English tutor for ten years, complemented by working as an award-winning arts journalist. Through this work
I've personally interviewed several of the authors on the English syllabuses, including Margaret Atwood and Arundhati Roy. I have a particular love of bringing Shakespeare alive, and I have also extensively interviewed many actors and practitioners about Shakespeare's work, including Sir Ian McKellen; I love to feed this real-world experience into lessons, to show that learning English is not just about words on a page.
Tutoring Approach:
CONFIDENCE: I love seeing students gain confidence as they study with me, and passing on my knowledge and enthusiasm until they are as excited about a subject as I am. My main focus is finding something for them to enjoy within a given subject and building our learning around that.
TARGETED APPROACH: I find out the areas where the student will need the most help, then I plan my lessons carefully to address those areas of difficulty. I always try to build on the way the student has been taught at school, so that my tuition complements their school learning rather than clashing with it.
EXAM TECHNIQUE: I also ensure that we are always working on exam and revision techniques while learning. This includes helpful mnemonics, studying past papers and mark schemes, and ensuring we are engaging closely with the relevant syllabus to pick up as many marks as possible when it comes to exams.
TIPS AND TRICKS: I like to build routine into tuition sessions, so that the student knows what to expect in each session, which helps boost their confidence, and so that grammar which can seem strange and unfamiliar at first becomes second nature. I've got plenty of tips and tricks to help with the most difficult parts of grammar and syntax. It's useful to break things down into smaller chunks - for example, the large set texts can be daunting, but they become manageable when taken piece by piece.
Above all, my approach is to be friendly, patient and knowledgeable.

Personal Description:
I am a native speaker of Spanish with many years of experience in teaching the language to children, young people in their GCSE and A Level courses (I am an Examiner and Specialist for AQA and Edexel), and adults who want to learn Spanish for business or holidays. I have a very interactive and friendly approach to teaching. The structure of the courses is very clear from the beginning but, ultimately, the content and the pace of the lessons is always determined by the students. The emphasis is on having good fun while learning, and a lot of the material used in the lessons is original. As a native speaker, I always make sure that the learning experience also includes cultural aspects of the country. I am absolutely sure that you will enjoy the courses.
Teaching Experience:
I am a qualified teacher of Spanish and a native speaker of the language. For the last 23 years, I have taught Spanish at different Secondary schools in Kent. I have also taught the language privately to adults wanting to learn or improve their command of the language for business or holiday purposes, and also to young people wanting to improve their chances of a good GCSE or A Level grade in Spanish. I am an examiner for AQA and I have taught Spanish GCSE and A Level courses for Edexel and AQA for many years. So, I am very familiar with the course contents.
Tutoring Approach:
The lessons that I teach are always interactive and practical. Students dictate both the content and the pace of the lessons and the aim is always to make the learning experience enjoyable. For example, if you are an adult wanting to improve your Spanish for holidays, we would reproduce in the lessons the situations that you would normally find yourself in while on holiday in Spain or any other Spanish-speaking country: greeting people, ordering food and drink, finding your way around, buying things, travelling around, asking for help, socialising, etc... As a native speaker, I always make sure that the learning experience also includes cultural aspects of the country.

Personal Description:
Maths tutor for KS3-KS4 students.
I am a qualified teacher and have experience of working in a range of schools with a variety of different pupils.
In my experience the benefits of one-to-one tuition are incomparable. When teaching a student I am able to tailor the teaching to address their specific questions and misconceptions, whilst covering topics at a far greater depth and speed than is possible in a class of 30.
By far the biggest benefit of tuition I have seen in my students is a vast increase in their confidence and to see them realise and believe that they can understand different topics and are fully capable of achieving high grades.
Teaching Experience:
Pearson - Maths tutor
Vision for Education - Tutor/mentor
Optimal Tutors - Maths and English tutor
ICT Teacher
Abraham Moss High School - Trainee IT Teacher
Walkden High School - Trainee IT Teacher
The Tutor Trust - Maths, English and Science Tutor
Crumpsall Lane Primary School - Voluntary Work
Tutoring Approach:
I am an approachable, caring and understanding individual with the keen interest of helping people to achieve. I have an excellent ability to break down difficult topics to make them easier to understand. I am an honest and hardworking person who takes great delight in seeing pupils make progress.
I have the ability to differentiate work to cater for different individuals and make learning fun. I am creative and have the experience to use every environment as a teaching tool. I can guarantee you will make progress with my support and hope to be able to offer my services.
My main interest is in creating an enjoyable and comfortable working environment that draws up from the students personality and employs a variety of different learning type activities and lateral thinking exercises to obtain not only improved subject results but a greater awareness and confidence within their subject matter.
My tuition sessions are bespoke and are structured around the needs of the student. Throughout my teaching I place an emphasis on understanding why particular methods are used and how topics link together. I also ensure students are exposed to a wide variety of questions styles from across exam boards to develop their ability to apply these skills to unfamiliar styles of question. Above all, I aim to raise the confidence and expectations of my students and to see them enjoy learning.
During the first introductory session I will make an assessment of your ability and discuss what you wish to achieve e.g. a certain grade/better understanding of a particular area, or develop exam technique. I will then use this information to create an individual learning plan and tailor my tuition accordingly as we work together to help you achieve your goal.

Personal Description:
I initially qualified as a barrister in 1986. I decided to re-qualify as a solicitor in 1990 and have worked as a solicitor ever since, covering many areas of civil and criminal law. More recently, I have specialised in criminal law. After obtaining a 2:1 Llb degree in 1985, I finished in the top 10th percentile in the Bar Exams in 1986. I retired in 2021.
Teaching Experience:
I have now been tutoring degree and A level students since February 2021 in Criminal Law, Public Law, Tort, Land Law, Equity and Trusts and Contract Law.
Tutoring Approach:
I prefer to tailor my methods according to the needs of the individual student. Some students require more leadership than others. It is important that the student feels engaged in the learning process since it is the student who will have to go on in between tutorials to study the subject. It is important to encourage the student toward better work and methods of working.
I encourage students to discuss with me their difficulties in grasping a particular area of law. It is very satisfying to see a student begin to thrive in an area of law which initially seemed intimidatingly difficult.
It is always important to apply the law one has learnt to a variety of potential situations in order fully to understand how the law works in practice. Equally, such exercises are the biggest mark-earners in the exams. Learning to present an argument in a logical, easy-to-follow fashion is very important.

Personal Description:
Hello, my name is Peter. I am a Geography tutor based in Belfast. The vast majority of my tutoring is online and I therefore have the experience and resources to ensure this works for you. However, I also tutor from home if this is what you prefer. Originally from Belfast and graduate of Queen's University, a Russell Group University, I moved to England once I finished my undergraduate degree. In doing so, I enrolled at the University of Reading to train in my Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). Once I completed my PGCE, I began teaching in a state school in Sandhurst three days per week. I have been tutoring for over ten years.
Teaching Experience:
First and foremost, I am a Geography teacher in a secondary school that is performing above the national average. I specialise in getting weaker students up to good grade by teaching them the structure they need in longer written answers. I also focus on the best methods to revise and retain information.
Tutoring Approach:
Every student will have a different approach to learning. It is therefore important that in our first lesson we sit down and work this out. You might be more visual, aural, kinesthetic, etc. Getting this right will ensure your tutoring lesson will benefit you greatly.

I am Spanish and I am an online teacher.
I hold a BA Honours degree in languages, a TESOL diploma and have experience as a teacher of English, Spanish and Portuguese. I have lived in the three countries and worked for an American aviation company for more than 20 years which gives me a sound experience of the working world. Teaching has always been my early passion to which I am now fully dedicated. Most of all I enjoy teaching and meeting a variety of enthusiastic people willing to share and learn a foreign language.
Teaching Experience:
Teaching has always been my early passion to which I am now fully dedicated. I am more inclined to teaching young adults studying for exams, pursuing new careers, or adults that need extra skills in languages for their working careers. I have worked for an American aviation company for more than 20 years which has given me sound training and experience of the working world.
Tutoring Approach:
I am Spanish and I am an online teacher. I adapt to your learning needs of the language and level and follow the objectives you may have. I can go through the syllabus for exam preparation or work at a corporate level or merely for personal improvement.
My classes are ideal to practice speaking as well as improving grammar, any doubts you may have or bring to the session. We can work on increasing vocabulary and I can indicate where you can practice for self-study if you want extra work and improve your knowledge of the language. We will be looking at articles, listening to videos and podcasts of your interest, using interactive games and above all ensure dynamic and varied contents to enjoy.

Hi, I'm Nicola - a final year graduate medical student at the University of St Andrews.
I have a BSc (Hons) in Biology also from the University of St Andrews.
Teaching Experience:
I have worked as a tutor for 5 years now, and I have tutored a variety of subjects and ages, from primary to SQA highers.
Tutoring Approach:
I teach sailing during the summers to children and adults alike, so I can quickly adjust topics and lessons to be suitable for different age ranges. I love working out how each individual learns best and strive to ensure everyone I teach reaches their full potential. I want to make the learning process fun and enjoyable, and not be seen as a chore! I tailor my lessons to the student's abilities and personality. I try to link the subject to their interests, as I believe that people learn best when they are interested in a subject and can see the relevance of what they're studying.
I have personally sat exams in both the Cambridge IGCSE and Scottish Higher/Advanced Higher syllabuses, so I understand both the exam boards themselves and how to research the specifics of new exam boards. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!

My name is Jo and I live in Balloch.
.I have 37 years of dedicated service in education, I recently retired after a fulfilling career focused on enhancing children's learning. For 15 years, I served as a Principal Teacher in a large, diverse school in Glasgow's West End, where I led teams and supported whole-school improvement. As Literacy Leader of Learning for 6 years, I championed innovative approaches to reading and writing across the curriculum.
Teaching Experience:
For the past six years, my role has been Challenge Leader of Learning/Principal Teacher in a large school in the West End of Glasgow. Through the Literacy for All CPD training and guidance courses that I have attended, my remit has been to improve reading, writing , talking and listening as part of the Scottish Attainment Challenge with the focus on giving all children the same opportunity to succeed, with a particular focus on closing the poverty related attainment gap and promote equity for all. This year due to Covid 19 I have had to develop my digital literacy skills in order to home school through Google Classroom, Seesaw and Teams. • A member of the Senior Management team within a large school, collaborating on improving all areas of the curriculum using HGIOS4. SIP, Standards and Quality Report, Education Perspective Report and shared vision, values and aims with colleagues. • I am committed to the inclusion of all children and developing the potential in all children by removing barriers to learning, families and staff. I evidence this by collecting quantitative data, people's views and direct observation. • To cultivate an environment of professional engagement, dialogue and collegiate working. Moderating reading, writing and assessment of pupil's skills. • Leading a PEF team of two highly experienced teachers to track and target individual children's progress through formative and summative approaches (I plan reading, writing lessons through experiences and outcomes that specifically meet the children's learning needs.) • Work collaboratively/team teach with colleagues at all stages to implement literacy circles, reciprocal teaching and stem a story. • Plan and deliver CPD opportunities for teachers on Early Learning, Scotland Reads, Reciprocal Teaching, STEM a story, Word Aware and Routes Through Writing. • Developed my own Busy Little Fingers writing skills programme and implemented across early stages. • Plan training days for Support for Learner Workers that give them strategies and skills to improve children's learning. • Update staff on Glasgow Improvement Challenge on in-service days and school business meeting. keep them informed of recent
Tutoring Approach:
I offer flexible tutoring options to suit your family's needs - online lessons, sessions at my home, or in the comfort of your child's home.
My approach is centred around engaging each child by connecting learning to topics they genuinely enjoy. I believe that sparking curiosity and making learning relevant can inspire even the most hesitant learners, helping them grow in confidence and develop a love for learning.
