Personal Description:
My name is Julia and I am 22 years old. I have just finished the third year of my MSci Astrophysics degree at University College London, but am moving home over the summer break from university so I am looking to tutor in Birmingham until late September.

I completed 5 A-Levels (Maths, French, Physics, Chemistry and General Studies) at King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls in Birmingham, receiving 3 A grades (Physics, French, General Studies) and 2 B grades (Maths, Chemistry). I have a keen interest in the languages as well as the sciences, and at GCSE received 9 A* grades and 4 A grades, so am able to teach a very wide spectrum of subjects confidently. I can only add six subjects to my profile but this is not comprehensive, so feel free to message me if you need a particular subject that I haven't mentioned!

If your child has struggled with this year's school work or you are concerned about how well they will progress to the next year of study, then I can provide booster classes to help prepare them for the start of term. If you just want to give your child a head-start on next year's work or keep them on track over the long summer holiday, then I have a wealth of resources that can support and stretch your child.

Teaching Experience:

I have previous experience tutoring for both Physics and French at secondary school at GCSE level, and in the last 4 years I have taught almost 15 students in a wide range of subjects. I am looking for students to teach over the summer holidays during July, August and September. I also have extensive babysitting experience as I was a nanny for three young girls last year, so if you need a combination of a nanny/babysitter and someone who can help with homework, then I can help!

Tutoring Approach:

I hope to encourage more people to take an interest in the sciences and study them at a higher level, and after my degree I plan to take a teaching qualification and hopefully work in secondary schools to achieve this goal. I also feel having a second language is more important now than ever, and I hope I can pass on my passion for languages to my students - I have been teaching myself Italian since Christmas and hope to study more intensively over summer. Parents of my students consistently describe me as responsible and approachable, and are constantly recommending me to their friends. Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions - I pride myself on being approachable and flexible.

Personal Description:
After having completed a qualification in advanced Spanish in Salamanca in Spain, I returned to the UK to complete a degree in Psychology. Following university I went to drama school, and college to learn to teach English as a foreign language. I have taught Spanish and English privately since graduating, and love to see my students improving in their language. I am trained in phonetics, so can help improve in Spanish pronunciation, and with British English or American pronunciation. I am flexible and willing to travel to central and around London, or or have students at home in the Crystal Palace area.

Teaching Experience:

Before completing the CELTA course I taught Spanish privately and in groups at the university of Sheffield. While at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School I taught private Spanish, and also drama/speech preparation to those wishing to get into drama school, then of course during my CELTA course I was constantly teaching English to classes and privately. I have taught private lessons in Spanish and English since then, and am doing so currently. As you can imagine, from living in Spain, a degree in Psychology, a professional acting qualification and teacher training, I've been around the study of people and how they work for a while now. These experiences have made me an empathic, patient and responsive teacher. Learning styles are really important for a teacher and a learner - if we can figure those out, you can become amazing and proficient in whatever you want. Let's have fun, get some work done, and finish proud of what you've achieved.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a modern approach to language teaching and want to make it as fun and interesting as possible. The mixture between a Psychology degree, an acting degree, and a CELTA course mean my approach to teaching is empathic and eclectic. I may use traditional board methods, or role-playing techniques to make sure my students' learning styles are explored and made use of. I would be perfect for any native Spanish speaker as I can relate language points to make comprehension of English clear, and for any English speaker who wants to learn Spanish. As stated above, my knowledge of the International Phonetic Alphabet and its application makes me a good choice for anyone additionally wanting to improve their English, or Spanish pronunciation. I have lived in Spain, so I understand what it's like to live in a foreign country where you don't know the language. I have training in phonetics from both drama school and the CELTA course, so am a good choice for pronunciation practice in an addiction to language improvement.

Personal Description:
I'm a final-year PhD student at the University of St. Andrews Philosophy Departments, my thesis topic is on 'Moral Demands and Scalar Morality', supervised by Tim Mulgan and John Skorupski. My main interests are in meta-ethical study of normativity, moral psychology and neuropsychology, the debate between internalists and externalists with regard to reasons, supererogation, normativity of aesthetics, philosophical methodology and intuitions, Aristotle and modern Virtue Ethics.

I'm also a native Russian speaker.

P.S. I normally teach from home; I'm willing to travel only for an additional fee which will depend on the location. I can also tutor small groups of up to 5 people for 20/h (Russian) and 25/h (Philosophy/Critical Thinking).

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching philosophy at St. Andrews for the past 3 years. I'm especially competent in the fields of Moral and Political Philosophy, Meta-Ethics, Ancient Philosophy, British Empiricism, Philosophy of Rationality and Action, Epistemology, Aesthetics and Film Philosophy.

I have 4 years of part-time experience in individual language tuition and translation of Russian language, covering all language levels and including tuition of basic survival Russian for business and tourist trips.

Tutoring Approach:

This will largely depend on the individual goals and competences of each student. However, normally it will require the student to do a fair amount of reading and writing prior to class. We would normally discuss the readings during the tutorial, I will clarify any difficult ideas and concepts, give comments on previously submitted written work.

Again, Russian-language tuition depends on individual goals and competences of each student. With complete beginners I prefer to focus a lot on reading and (functional) writing, and develop a strong foundation to allow for independent study. With more advanced students I often find using either classic Russian literature or journals and other periodicals is very helpful.

Personal Description:
I am an American who grew up in a small town in Illinois and went on to get a BA in Fine Art. I moved to England a few years ago and love taking my two dogs out on walks in the country side. I love making art, cooking, and hanging out at home. My artwork is primarily based in painting, and printmaking. I also like to work with mixed media and bookmaking. I have recently started to do a bit more photography that I am enjoying and combining with my other work.

Teaching Experience:

I have done private tutoring in the States as well as being a visiting artist at public schools.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is that everyone no matter where they want to take their art work needs to have a foundation of basic skills so that they can go on and make their work in what ever medium they choose. Art is such an exciting subject because it is truly only limited to our imagination and drive. You can do anything you want with art so that also makes it more challenging. My goal with my students is to provide encouragement, technical support, together with some art theory, and practical advise to create a comfortable and inspirational environment to learn and create.

Personal Description:
As a post-graduate and former scientist, I have been tutoring chemistry for over 6 years now. I am an easy going, down to earth person with a natural flare for teaching. I really enjoy helping people to understand difficult concepts and I've always found science captivating. I am the kind of person who is willing to go above and beyond to help if I am able to. I have experience with young people of all ages, from crèche to holiday clubs, teaching in schools and leading teenagers at summer camps.

Teaching Experience:

I have enjoyed studying science at university level for over 8 years, during which time I was also involved in teaching undergraduate students in labs and tutorials. Since then I've held a post in a pharmaceutical lab developing cancer therapies, as well as teaching chemistry, physics and biology in secondary schools. I studied for a PGDE to become a secondary school chemistry teacher in 2010 but had to end the course early (due to severe morning sickness). As such, I have been able to practice and develop a variety of teaching methods and I'm up to date with the relevant exam board course outcomes and requirements. Over the past 6 years, I have professionally tutored many students, covering Standard Grade, Intermediate 2, National 5, Higher, Revised Higher and Advanced Higher Chemistry, Higher Human Biology and first year University level Biochemistry. About 70% of my students have achieved at least 2 or 3 grade jumps since they started tutorials with me.

I have several positive references and a CRB enhanced disclosure, which will be available to view on request.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a friendly approach to tutoring. I like my students to feel at ease so that they are able to ask me anything. I'm of the mind set that no question is too silly to ask. My tutorials are structured and tailored around the individual student. Depending on the time we have available before an exam/NAB, we will identify key areas that the student experiences difficulty with and work through them addressing Knowledge & Understanding and Problem Solving, both of which are key to achieving the individual's desired grade. I endeavour to cover all topics of the course if we are able to, as I often find that there are areas that a student realises they are not up to scratch on once we start to revise it. I create personalised worksheets for my students and we spend a lot of time going through past papers, as well as developing exam/study technique.

As tutition progresses, I have witnessed a huge increase in the confidence that every one of my students hold in their own ability to problem solve as well as understand their given course work. I have often had comments from students and parents that I make things easy to understand and that the student is actually enjoying their course a lot more since commencing tutoring. I try to make myself available as much as possible to answer queries from tutees by e-mail or text, especially in the run up to class tests or exams.

Here's what one of my previous tutees had to say: "Dale tutored me throughout my higher Chemistry course and I honestly could not have got an A without her! She managed to explain the complex concepts essential to understanding chemistry in a way that I could relate to real life. She was always supportive and motivated me to do well. She was always flexible and able to fit in between my busy schedule. Even now when I have issues with my course work at Medical school I know I could drop her an e-mail with questions and she would be more than happy to help out. Overall Dale is fantastic, if you want a good grade whilst having fun she is your best bet!" - Eilidh.

All of my preparation time (typically 2 hours per session), travel time and travel expenses are included in the hourly rate. I prefer not to travel more than 7 miles from home but will still be happy to consider this.

Personal Description:
Hello, I'm Victoria, I have recently graduated from the University of Leicester and as part of my degree I have spent time living and teaching abroad in both Spain and Italy, as well as working with people from different native backgrounds.
My main passions are learning and teaching languages, immersing myself in different cultures, travelling and cooking.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience in private tuition, teaching English to people of all ages and levels in Spain and Italy.
As part of my degree I also completed a TESOL module where I desgined various lesson plans and activities useful in teaching any langauge.
Being a language student myself, I have invaluable experience in different teaching methods and various ways in which to successfully learn a foreign language.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very flexible in my approach to tutoring. I am open to any suggestions or preferred ways of learning that my tutee's wish to put forward and I am focused on planning the lessons to meet each of my tutees needs and preferences.
I take a very practical and interactive approach to teaching languages, using various resources such as videos and other listening materials, powerpoints and appropriate written materials and activities. I will pay equal attention to writing, reading, speaking and listening as important components to learning a language, unless a tutee prefers to focus on one particular skill.

Personal Description:
I am a second year medical student at UCL and passed first year with a Merit. The subjects I took for AS level were Chemistry,Biology,Maths and Economics and I achieved 4As, scoring over 90% in each. I took Chemistry, Biology and Maths for A level and achieved an A* in each, gaining 100% in chemistry and biology. I am very confident in teaching all 3 subjects up to and including A-level at a high standard.

Teaching Experience:

I mentored younger boys for chemistry for 2 years at school and other family members. I have recently taken my A levels and achieved high grades so the information is still fresh in my mind. I can pass on learning styles I have developed to achieve high grades.

Tutoring Approach:

First of all I will determine the level of knowledge my student has and from there I will draw up a teaching plan with them. It is important to ask students if they have particular areas of the syllabus which they struggle with, in order to concentrate on these areas in particular. I will ensure that my student has a good grounding knowledge which we can build on in subsequent lessons. I am a firm believer in using the syllabus whilst learning as it provides the core knowledge of the exams.

Personal Description:
I'm 21 and about to begin my final year at the University of Warwick, studying French and International Relations. I love learning and sharing my knowledge with others, so tutoring is the perfect opportunity to do so. My passions are mainly to do with music and writing and I enjoy travelling.

Teaching Experience:

Over the course of the last academic year, I spent 7 months living and working in Lille, the 4th largest city in France. I worked as an English Teaching Assistant in two different schools and my students were aged between 11 and 15. This was an amazing experience and quite daunting at first as I had to take groups of up to 15 students for lessons on my own after just two weeks of observing lessons with their teachers.

For the past 5 years (on and off during university), I have been teaching the Sunday School 4-7 and 7-11 groups at my local church. This involves arts&crafts, games, singing, worksheets and traditional-style teaching.

I started giving private tuition this summer and I have been teaching English and French to 3 students (aged 5, 9 and 14) since the start of May.

Tutoring Approach:

My desire is to do all that I can to help students improve in areas where necessary and develop or maintain enthusiasm for a subject, even though they may be having difficulty with it. Depending on the age of the students, I use a reward system for encouragement and a sense of achievement. I have no set curriculum but will shape my lesson plans around the needs of the student. I am flexible in my style of teaching - activities, games, discussion, exercises etc. I want my students to get the most out of our sessions and so I will always take their learning style, strengths and weaknesses into consideration. Asking for feedback regularly is important and ensures that the student and I are always working together to make the tuition as successful as possible.

Personal Description:
I am a 22 year old female, currently pursuing MSc in Economics from London School of Economics and Political Science.
I am from India (Delhi) and have completed my Bachelor's in Economics from the University of Delhi. I scored 92.8% in my GCSE equivalent exams and 92.6% in my A-Level exams. I also secured a distinction in my University with 78.3% marks. In my A-level exams, I scored a 95% in Math, Economics, Physics and Chemistry.

I am a budding writer. I worked as a correspondent with an online social media website for 15 months. I am a very passionate and driven individual and I am forever looking forward to expanding my horizons. Currently, I am in the process of learning Spanish while also serving as the Treasurer of my Hall Committee (Bankside House, LSE).

I am very fond of reading and some of my favourite books are- "To kill a mockingbird- Harper Lee", "A palace of Illusions- Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni", "A thousand splendid suns- Khalid Hosseini" and "The Help- Kathryn Stockett".

I am an enthusiastic traveler and have visited the following countries- USA, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau and Mexico. Currently, of course, I am staying in the UK for my Masters degree.

I love making new friends and meeting new people. I am forever looking for new experiences and strongly believe that every individual I meet has something new to teach me. I believe the biggest motto in life is to be happy and everything else must follow that.

Teaching Experience:

I have a substantial amount of teaching experience. I have taught Economics to high school students. I have also been a Math tutor to children aged 10-12 years and 14-17 years. Since my course is highly mathematical, I believe that I would be able to the students a deeper understanding of the underlying concepts. My entire education has been in English medium schools and hence, proficiency in understanding and speaking English is not an issue.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring style would largely be determined by the nature of the individual I am dealing with. Patience being my strong suit, I am happy to explain the same concept for the millionth time if so needed. My academic record has been quite exceptional and I keep myself updated on the newer methods of teaching and learning. I believe I can tailor my teaching style in accordance with what the student would be comfortable with.
I focus on relating concepts to real life experiences and observations which help to imprint them in the minds of the students and de-emphasize rote learning since then memory plays a crucial role in performance.

However, I do focus on making assignments which I expect to be handed back to me (flexible deadlines, of course) and I do give regular tests to assess if my student is able to coherently express his/her ideas in accordance with what is expected in an examination framework.

I am happy to give a trial class for ₤18.
