Personal Description:
Emme offers private flute and music theory tuition.

Emme began her musical studies at the age of nine, receiving music scholarships at both her Prep school and the prestigious Oxford High School for Girls up until she left. She made her Concerto debut at the age of seventeen, playing Mouquet's La Flute de Pan Concerto, and successfully gained both the DipABRSM and LRSM in performance before moving to Manchester in 2005 to study at the Royal Northern College of Music. At the RNCM Emmeline studied with Richard Davis, Linda Verrier, Michael Cox, and Laura Jellicoe culminating in a final recital in 2009 that included works by Messiaen, Liebermann and George Crumb. Since graduating in 2009 she has continued to learn, play and teach the flute as well as the recorder and music theory.

As an orchestral flute player, Emme has performed in orchestras conducted by Hansjorg Schellenbeger, Sir Mark Elder, Gianndrea Noseda and Jacques Van Steen, just to name a few. She has performed across England as well as travelling to Italy to work under Noseda in his Stresa Festival and to Spain as part of the Word Orchestra. During 2008 and 2009, Emme successfully competed to become the only chosen flute player to take part in The BBC Philharmonics Professional Experience Scheme, and since then she regularly performs and records with the Orchestra in and around Manchester. She has also played with the Bampton Classical Opera, the London-Irish Symphony Orchestra, the Oxford Concerto Orchestra, and Stockport Symphony Orchestra and has featured as principal flautist on a number of recordings, notably for the soundtrack to the film Tortoise in Love, and on recordings for Polyphonic Records. She is currently performing in the touring hit musical Phantom of the Opera, as well as taking part in sessions for shows and TV in the UK.

Outside of orchestral playing Emme also performs chamber music and solo works. She is one of the founding members of Northern Quarter Ensemble, a flexible chamber group providing bespoke musicians for special events; most recently performing for royality at the Paris Opera Garnier. She often gives solo recitals and performs at weddings in Manchester, Oxford and Cheltenham. Her last concerto performance was just last year where she performed the Ibert Concerto with Oxford Studio Orchestra.

Outside of playing Emme enjoys teaching. During her time in Manchester she has taught privately, as well as for Lancashire, the Wirral and Bolton Music Services. She is also involved the BBC Philharmonic's outreach schemes, most recently being appointed the wind coach for the Family Orchestra projects in the North-West of England.

She has now moved to Oxfordshire and London and teaches at Preparatory Schools in both areas.

Teaching Experience:

Emme has over 10 years teaching experience, teaching both privately and for Lancashire and Bolton Music Services. She currently teaches at Rendcomb College, St Hughs, Ferndale Prep and Bruern Abbey. Over this time she has acquired a 100% pass rate for pupils taking exams.

If you would be interested in learning with Emme, then please get in contact to enquire about lessons!

Tutoring Approach:

She is happy to teach those who want to learn purely for enjoyment but is also experienced in preparing students for ABRSM Graded exams. She teaches all abilities; from complete beginner to advanced players.

Personal Description:
3 years ago, UK postgraduate study enhanced my skills in both English and Chinese. I've been a professional translator and Mandarin teacher for years, so I'm very confident to be a private tutor and make sure you will reach your goal : )

I'm based in London and working as a translator/project manager. In my spare time (weekends/public holidays), I'm very glad to help those foreign friends with their Mandarin.

Please contact me if any needs/questions.

xie xie ; )
Sophy

Teaching Experience:

In 2009, I taught English to preschool students in China. I learned a lot from it, how to communicate with my students, how to achieve their aims and how to deal with their difficulties.

In 2010, I taught two adult foreigners Mandarin Chinese at home via msn and emails. Although they were in the same age group, they had different needs, so I varied my teaching approach. One preferred to learn Chinese culture, so I taught him the history of Chinese festivals and general grammar; the other wanted to learn everyday expressions, so I taught him day-to-day language in terms of various circumstances, such as useful phrases in greetings, at the store, at the restaurant, at the airport and travelling etc.

Last year, I gave one-to-one Mandarin Chinese courses which are specially designed for the students particular needs.

We can have a discussion about your goal first, then we will arrange the time slot for your own course.

Please kindly note that my lessons are only available on weekends and the whole weekdays from 17th Dec. - 21st Dec. 2012

Let's speak Mandarin!!

Tutoring Approach:

First, I need to know my tutees' aims for learning Chinese (e.g. for travelling to China or for personal interests, etc.) so that I can design a way of studying for you that can make the process of learning more effective and interesting.

secondly, I will combine formal teaching content (pinyin, grammar, characters) with interesting informal teaching approaches (learning words and phrases from songs/movies or going to a Chinese restaurant to learn the names of dishes).

You will have fun learning Chinese!

Personal Description:
I am a native Italian girl living in the UK with my English husband and our two daughters. I come from central Italy, near Rimini on the Adriatic coast.
My husband and I are specialized in the translation of scripts for film and television and in making adjustments to the dialogue.
Teaching is a pure passion for me and it is also a way to help others to understand the culture of my country.
I try as much as possible to create a customized program for the needs and levels of my students. For the pronunciation I gladly offer myself to record the readings that interest them most so that they can exercise hearing PERFECT pronunciation and accent.
As you may know in Italy there are many accents and dialects from city to city.
Having studied theatre and dubbing and worked in the world of dubbing of films and cartoons for a many years I am able to speak perfect Italian without any accent or dialect (as you would hear on television).

Teaching Experience:

I have experience in teaching Italian to English speakers from when I was living in Italy taking private lessons for adults and children.
I also taught Italian in an English nursery in Italy.

Tutoring Approach:

Together with the program, for children and young people we also learn while having fun through games, videos and songs.
One of the best ways to learn a language is by conversing in the language with a native speaker so for me one of the most important things is talking.

Personal Description:
I am a qualified doctor from Imperial College London (MBBS 2014) having recently obtained a first class bachelors of science in Management (Hons) from Imperial College Business School in 2012.

Earlier in my school career I achieved GCSE's of 6A*'s and 3A's. Thereafter during my A Levels I received 3A's and a B(further mathematics). I was offered to study Medicine at every medical school I applied to in 2008 (Imperial, UCL, King's and QMUL) as well as a place to study Maths at Warwick. Furthermore I was offered a scholarship recommendation by Imperial for entry into medicine. I have won an international maths competition with my school in 2008, as well as being recommended as an outstanding business talent by my school. I represented Imperial at the Universities Business Challenge reaching the semi final stage.

Teaching Experience:

Whilst at school and at university I have helped numerous students to enhance their exam results or application forms for University. Over the last few years I have tutored several students in the subjects that I am currently offering.

I am currently a private tutor under Kensington and Chelsea tutors. Additionally I also have the experience of freelance private tutoring, most recently GCSE Physics, Maths and Chemistry as well as A Level Maths (Academic year 2012/13). I predominantly find myself tutoring hard working students who require further confidence to succeed in challenging subjects. My philosophy is to offer a semi-structured approach to questions, where I push the student in the right direction, but ultimately they work out the answers themselves. This enhances their confidence and leaves them more independent come exam time. Notably five students that I've mentored have successfully applied to Imperial Medicine, including my younger brother.

Other than private tutoring I have a diverse set of teaching skills through various roles. One example is an annual entry to medicine course, PotMed, whereby I coached students through their personal statements as well as through the daunting interview process. I've also received formal peer tutor training from the Imperial College faculty to facilitate teaching other Medical students.

Last year I worked closely with secondary school students as a maths teacher for three weeks at a school in London under the SAS teaching scheme. I had the satisfaction of working one on one with students of varying abilities and varying interests.

Note: I am happy to conduct group tutoring sessions at a lower than quoted rate. Also all of my one-to-one sessions are in two hour blocks. Unfortunately I cannot travel to the tutee for one hour only.

Tutoring Approach:

I remain a humble and grounded individual and believe principles like these will doubtlessly help me as a tutor. I am always happy to help wherever I can. Importantly I place a great emphasis on the understanding of concepts. My role is not to spoon feed information but to enhance the knowledge of the pupil overall.

The nature of education today is highly competitive and a stressful environment for many children and parents alike. My overall philosophy is to simplify the process and put students at ease. By making difficult concepts look easy, tough subjects will be simpler to tackle and the motivation to pursue a promising career will come naturally.

Personal Description:
I am an experienced teacher and tutor in the West Midlands area. I am deeply enthusiastic about my subjects and am passionate about supporting people in their qualifications, goals and dreams. I am extremely well qualified and have experience in leading departments (both Psychology and Humanities) and working at top level educational institutions (e.g. The University of Warwick).

Teaching Experience:

I have taught at a variety of schools, colleges and universities in the past 10 years. I have taught Psychology and Sociology at GCSE and A Level each year since 2002. Since 2003 I have taught Psychology to adult learners, firstly at Coventry University and currently through the University of Warwick as well as through privately run courses and workshops. I have acted as a private tutor to A Level students for the past 5 years. I also have extensive experience in teaching study skills and supporting students through their UCAS application.

Tutoring Approach:

I naturally take a very relational approach to tutoring, viewing the tutoring process as not just being about the material to be covered but also about wider support in terms of self-confidence, study skills, stress management, progress advice and other issues that can impact upon academic achievement. I have a flexible and approachable manner and view the process a a partnership between myself, the tutee and the other people involved (such as family members). I am comfortable tutoring online or face-to-face. In the past I have had students come to my home and have tutored in the homes of tutees.

Personal Description:
Post doctoral researcher at University of Sheffield, working on computer models of heart disease.

I recently completed a PhD in Bioengineering at Imperial College London, carrying out mathematical research on heart disease. My first degree was in Maths at the same university, and I took a Masters in Biomedical Research in between.

I had the fortune to attend both a state school and a top boarding school during my secondary studies and am comfortable to cover topics on and off the standard syllabus.

I am a very fun, friendly person with a wide range of activities and hobbies from inline skating to singing and playing the violin.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored A-level maths privately for a few years, and also spent three weeks as a maths teaching assistant in a girls' secondary school near Parsons Green as part of the Student Associates Scheme.

Within the university, I lead undergraduate tutorials and problems classes in the Mathematics and several Engineering departments, teaching undergraduates from 1st year to 4th year. The courses include Mathematical Methods, Matlab, Fluid Mechanics, PDEs, Modelling in Biology, Heat and Mass Transfer. I also carry out 1-1 tuition for undergraduates at departmental request. I have also supervised a number of undergraduate and masters research projects and summer students.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a very approachable person and I prefer interactive sessions, although I am willing to tailor the tuition to the individual.

A first meeting would involve an informal chat for the student and I to get more familiar with his/her needs and style of working, and everything follows from there.
