Personal Description:
I am currently a doctoral researcher undertaking my PhD at The University of Glasgow, while teaching and tutoring for The University of Glasgow, The University of the West of Scotland and independently through various tutoring agencies.

I hold a BA (Hons) undergraduate degree and an MLitt (Master of Letters) postgraduate degree. I am a qualified personal tutor in 15 subject areas. mainly around English and the arts. I do some freelance writing and have contributed numerous articles to the website Helium, most of which are voted number one in their category, I have had several articles published in society newsletters and publications, including The International Crosby Circle and The Sinatra Music Society. I have organised an international conference, departmental postgraduate symposiums and have chaired panels and presented papers at these events.

Teaching Experience:

I have several academia based jobs:

I have been a GTA (Graduate Teaching Assistant) for The University of Glasgow for the past three years, where I teach undergraduate students; independently structure and run seminars; and grade essays.

I am a Top-Up Tutor for The University of Glasgow and as a Step Up to University lecturer for University of the West of Scotland, where I go into schools and prepare S5 and S6 students for university by giving lecturers; running on-campus seminars; grading essays; providing feedback on performance; and helping students write their UCASE personal statements.

I am a REACH tutor for The University of Glasgow where I help prepare S4-S6 students for applying to the professional degrees of medicine, law, dentistry and vet medicine. This involves in-school sessions, on campus sessions and a week long summer school in June.

I am a Proof Reader, Note Taker, Tutor, Transcriber, and Support Worker for the disability service at The University of Glasgow and The University of the West of Scotland.

I am a personal tutor (both online and off--line) and have experience teaching in severalsubject areas including English, English Language, English Literature, Media Studies, Film Studies, Theatre Studies, and General Writing Skills.
I have taught students off-line from pre-exam age (11+) to Standard Grade, Higher, and university level; and online for pre-exam level (12+), GCSE, AS level, A-Level, university level and the occasional Adult Learner.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning should be fun and in a relaxed atmosphere but at the same time academic and useful. My approach to teaching is to have the tutor and student both feel that they are getting a lot out of the experience and that the time is being well used. I will break down subjects into easily manageable blocks and make sure that my student understands the unit before moving on. I also like to vary my tutorials by having some in the form of lectures, some in the form of question and answers, some where I will give students feedback on homework they have done and suggestions to improve what they have done, etc.

I also find that on-line tuition is the best method and students can ask questions that they may not ask if they were face-to-face with someone, it is a much more relaxed approach but students get a lot out of it (and can save all the notes from lessons for use later on)

Personal Description:
My name is Laura and I am 32 years old. I am originally from Birmingham but now I live by the sea in Worthing with my partner Tim. I am an intelligent, creative person. I have an English Language and Literature BA from Oxford University. As well as tutoring, I take on freelance proofreading, copy-editing and audio typing work to pay the bills.

Aside from writing, I love reading books, photography and watching films. I also like working with people, which is one of the (many) reasons why I enjoy tutoring. I have previous experience of working with young people, having mentored Year 8 pupils, worked with students interested in applying to university and coached Year 10 and 11 pupils through their English Language and Literature GCSE syllabus. I have been a private tutor for 5 years now, and enjoy it hugely. I am fully CRB checked and available immediately.

Teaching Experience:

2010
GCSE English tutor, Durrington High School

Employed through the Aim Higher scheme to work with small groups of Year 11 students, to help them secure a C grade in their AQA English Language GCSE.

January 2007 - present
Private tutor
Since moving to Worthing I have worked with students ranging from Year 9 to degree level. I have in-depth knowledge of the AQA GCSE syllabus for English Lang and Lit, as well as the AQA English Literature AS/A2 course (specifications A and B).

January - December 2005
Academic Coach
Employed by the ACES ('Academic Coaches Ensuring Success') Project and Sandwell LEA, I was part of a team providing additional support and learning opportunities for Key Stage 4 (15-16 year old) pupils at risk of underachieving at GCSE level.
The role involved working closely with targeted students on a one-to-one or small group basis, developing and delivering innovative study sessions designed to overcome barriers to learning and assist underachievers in fulfilling their potential. My specific academic focus was within the English Language and Literature GCSE syllabus.

February - August 2004
Project Officer for Oxford Colleges Admissions Office
Employed by Oxford University, I took on a six-month post as Project Officer for the Oxford-Dudley Partnership Project, a scheme which aimed to work with the Year 9 Gifted and Talented cohort of all schools in Dudley LEA in order to raise aspirations.
I also organized and ran a programme of 'Aspiration Days' for Year 8-11 pupils from schools across the country, aimed at encouraging applications from students from state school and/or underprivileged backgrounds, as well as speaking with Year 12 students interested in applying to university, providing specific information and advice regarding applications.

September 2002 - June 2003
Learning Mentor
Whilst still an undergraduate, as part of the National Mentoring Pilot Project (NMPP), I was a mentor to four Year 8 pupils, providing support and encouragement in an environment removed from the classroom. This took place in weekly one-hour sessions with the individual student for an entire academic year, charting their progress in terms of behaviour, confidence and attitude.

Tutoring Approach:

I am friendly, patient and passionate about my subject. I am sensitive to the needs of others and strive to tailor sessions to suit the needs of the tutee. I am relaxed and enthusiastic when tutoring and aim to build confidence as well as increase knowledge and understanding.

Personal Description:
I am a native Russian speaker who values the importance of communication amongst people all over the world and believes that LEARNING LANGUAGES CAN BE VERY FUN!
In my late teen years I began learning the Greek language at the most basic level and continued on to complete my Graduate degree in a bilingual study program in Greece.
Having lived and studied abroad, I understand first-hand the many challenges one faces when learning and communicating in a foreign language. In turn, I am able to help Russian language students overcome these challenges and gain confidence in their communication.
As Russian has become such an important skill - be it for business, education or pleasure - I am eager to do all I can to support you in reaching your individual goals.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught students from the literacy level who have almost no knowledge or understanding of Russian and Greek right up to the University level students who need to improve their reading and writing skills for their class work and essays. I have worked with students of all abilities and ages, both in groups and individual.

Tutoring Approach:

Learning another language is such a rewarding experience and will benefit you in every area of your life.
I have worked with people who have hearing impairments as well as severe accents. I specialize in verbal and auditory teaching of the mechanics of producing sound. If you want to learn how to use your breath and muscles to speak clearly and with expression, I would be very happy to spend some time with you. I also have many teaching strategies that I would like to share with you to help you improve in all areas of Russian grammar, writing and listening.
I am developing new ways of teaching languages which would help people to reach individual goals, find interests and own learning styles.
