| Personal Description: I am a recent graduate from the University of London, and have studied Literature, History and the Italian language as parts of my degree. Additionally, I have developed a wide knowledge of philosophy, both in generally as part of my study, and in a specialized course on Art Philosophy in my final year. As a relatively young tutor I pride myself on my ability to engage with pupils, and enjoy working with individuals towards a strong personal goal. I believe that even compulsory education should be enjoyable, and that with a little nudge in the right direction, any pupil can discover a life-long passion for learning. |
Teaching Experience: As President of my University's Creative Writing Society, I was actively involved in giving constructive criticism and feedback to members. I believe that my personal approach helped to build their confidence and skills in equal measure. Both before and during my University career I have taken opportunities to do work experience at local schools, and to work with students of all ages. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that a solid essay writing style is the foundation to any academic subject, just as grammar underpins any language. This is especially vital to those pupils working towards a University place, but is in fact important in all walks of life. Solid writing and language skills open doors to interviews and careers just as much as they do to Halls of Residences. I work to ensure that these vital elements are interesting and exciting to pupils, while building on their knowledge of the subject material. Many pupils are surprised to realize just how much they know about a subject, and this realization can provide a real boost to their confidence. This confidence is the key to the fantastic results I want to inspire my students to achieve. I also offer Proofreading for essays and Personal Statements, and a Mock Exam Sitting Service. |

| Personal Description: I am a pianist, piano teacher and music therapist .I currently work in Guildford ,teaching piano privately and at a school and doing accompanying work for recitals, music exams, etc. |
Teaching Experience: I have over 25 years of experience working with adults and children. I have had my own private practice for several years, aswell as teaching piano in various schools . Aswell as one to one teaching, I have also taught a group piano class at an adult education centre in London. I have worked in several special schools and hospitals as a music therapist and more recently with adults in a cancer centre. Accompanying has always been a passion of mine, and I love playing in any small ensemble. I regularly play for instrumental and singing music exams and recitals . |
Tutoring Approach: I enjoy working with each person as an individual, finding their strengths and developing their own style. I draw on my music therapy training frequently when teaching, using improvisation and working creatively . I happily prepare students for music exams, but like to take time to let students explore a wide range of music and styles and to develop as musicians, so that the terrible "production line" syndrome is avoided! I am equally happy working with adults and children, and enjoy teaching right across the range of abilities from beginner to advanced. |

| Personal Description: I am an electrical engineering consultant with a degree in electronics and electrical engineering from The University of Edinburgh. I have previously worked as an electronics design engineer for satellite communications systems and as a college tutor in Wallace College, Edinburgh. |
Teaching Experience: I have tutored many students during the past five years, both privately and in classes at Wallace College. I have also worked as an instructor at Acrobounce Scotland, which is a high energy outdoor activity for children and I develop good relationships with the students who I teach. |
Tutoring Approach: Once I have established the strengths and weaknesses of the student, I tailor the content of the tutorials to suit the needs of that student. In maths and physics it is important for the student to have a clear understanding of the basic ideas and principles of the subjects, this is where we will start. Once the basic concepts are understood, the tutorials will have a bias toward exam technique and preparing for the final exam. This has proven to be a very effective method of boosting grades in my own exams and in those of my previous students. I have many years experience sitting examinations myself and have lots of advice in how to prepare for and perform well on the big day. |

| Personal Description: I am married with 2 teenage children. As a qualified teacher of secondary mathematics, I am able to offer maths tutoring for both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, as well as to 'more mature' students and those needing to re-sit. I can provide intensive preparation for Key Stage 3 SATs and GCSE examinations. I am fully conversant with the National Numeracy Strategy and the National Curriculum for mathematics. I am up to date with recent changes of some exam boards' mathematics syllabi & exam structure. NB I only offer tuition in my own home or the immediate area of Knowle/Totterdown. |
Teaching Experience: Since 1998, I have taught maths in a variety of secondary schools from inner-city to leafy suburbs and am experienced in teaching across the 11-16 ability range. |
Tutoring Approach: I am a friendly, relaxed, approachable and professional tutor. As with classroom teaching, I believe that much of the maths being taught is more easily understood by the student if it is presented in accessible, contextual material with clear explanations and reasoning. I have succesfully tutored a number of students, enabling them to achieve their potential in both KS3 SATs & GCSE. |

| Personal Description: I am a recent 1st class graduate from Exeter University where a studied Biological Sciences. I am currently a research scientist at Exeter University with teaching responsibilities. Always passionate about science and teaching I enjoy helping students to understand trickier areas of science and my enthusiasm normally rubs off. |
Teaching Experience: As I am looking into becoming a teacher after my PhD I have always been involved with schools and young people. I have taught small groups of biosciences undergraduates helping them through laboratory practicals and whilst preparing for exams. I have also taught several lessons in secondary schools at GCSE level and given practical lessons to A level students on my subject area of research. Most recently I gave private tuition to two students who had missed 3 modules of GCSE science and helped them to catch up with their classmates. |
Tutoring Approach: I have a relaxed and friendly approach to tutoring, I believe students learn better when they are enjoying themselves so I'll always try to make things memorable by involving a practical aspect to my lessons or by doing lots of trial exam questions so students learn how to conquer their exams without stress and with confidence. As I am still younger than most students current teachers I am able to command respect from students but make things fun and this makes for a good working relationship between tutor and student. I try from the onset to identify key areas that the most attention and work with the student to refine these areas. |
