About Thomas:
Hi, my name is Tom, and I'm an easygoing student in Bristol. I have a MSci in Physics and am currently completing a PhD in Maths.

I have experience teaching Physics and Maths, something which I enjoy a lot. I am very good at simplifying and explaining concepts and am familiar with problems students of maths frequently have.

If you are looking for more Physics or Maths tutoring at any level, please contact me.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently teaching in the University of Bristol (I teach first year Physicists and Mathematicians).

This level tends to be from A level standard up to fairly advanced mathematics.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel strongly that tutoring should provide a huge benefit over classroom lessons. One to one lessons allow specific problems to be found and explained clearly, and an informal atmosphere, encourages questions.

I consider it the responsibility of the teacher to provide an interesting insight into their subject, and to make it more accessible to students.

About Daniel:
I am a trainee primary school teacher in university specialising in music. Myself being a trainee reflects on my cost per hour compared to other tutors. I would be happiest teaching music skills, however I would happy to do literacy, maths, science, music or I.T. at primary school level.

Musically I have a BTEC national diploma in music technology before starting my degree, I can play guitar, bass, drums and keyboards. I can currently accommodate guitar, bass and keyboards at basic levels and guitars at a slightly more advanced level. I would be happy to help out with GCSE music and have the music technology available to help pupils with their composition side of GCSE coursework allowing to record their compositions on their instruments, sing on their composition and have other instruments involved just by having keyboard and computer skills.

On a personal experience level I have been in bands since my days in school which has involved me releasing two digital singles with different labels, playing a major European music festival and touring other places around England and Wales.

Teaching Experience:

I am going in to the second year of my degree. I have undertaken placements in primary school which has involved me teaching units of maths, literacy and lessons of music. This year I will be taking another placement in a primary school along with doing some music based tutoring in groups.

Tutoring Approach:

I will teach children what they want to learn. Whether it is what they are currently doing at school or whether they are learning an instrument as a hobby. I will offer the children free recording of some of their lessons so they have something to show for their time spent learning and they can hear their progress and show off at home!

About Jaroslav:
I am a 27 years old male PhD student, with double background: in Mathematics and Psychology. Maths is my big love and pillar of my career and Psychology my big interest. That's about me, since I can't think of anything more which would be of general interest at this stage.

Teaching Experience:

Almost 10 years of one-to-one tuition experience
prepared and have led math preparation course for university entrance exams
altogether 4 semesters worth of demonstrating or teaching undergraduate courses in foundations of mathematical analysis, statistics and research methodology in leading Czech Universities during my postgraduate studies.
I am happy to send my CV if you take these things seriously.

Tutoring Approach:

PFFF: patient, focused, fun, flexible

In more words:

I love teaching, since I find it really rewarding to see the student overcome the hurdles and suddenly realise that maths (or another subject) is much simpler than it seemed to be. It is tricky to try to describe one's "Approach to Tutoring", but one thing I can say is that what people usually point out when they say I make a good teacher is, that I succeed in translating the subject to language of the audience. From my subjective point of view, I just try to go where the student is with his understanding and misunderstandings and work directly with his "mental representation", instead of general truth. The fact that one-to-one tuition enables me to do this even more effectively makes me like it even more than the lecturing (well, then it is much more about establishing contact with the audience and keeping their attention).

About Andrea:
I'm friendly and approachable and work as a Science and Technology consultant doing technical project based work for blue chip companies and the public sector.

I'm passionate about science and enjoy instilling a genuine interest in it in others by making it relevant to them.

Teaching Experience:

5 years tutoring of undergraduate students, Cambridge University (Chemistry, Reaction Engineering and Fluid Mechanics)
5 years supervision and marking of undergraduate labs (Fluid Mechanics and Physical Chemistry)
10+ years Science and Maths tutoring for A-Level and GCSE

Tutoring Approach:

I adapt my teaching to suit the student and their circumstances, be it to understand a specific topic better or more general help with a subject. My broad science base means it is easy for me to integrate subjects e.g. I often find that students struggling with science subjects are actually struggling with the maths side of things.

As I work in science I'm able to bring out the relevance of a subject to real life and make it interesting and fun to study

About Parveen:
I did English Literature, Mathematics and Economics at A-Levels which I completed in 2001. I went straight onto University where I obtained a (BA Hons) in Accounting and Finance in 2004 from Kingston Univeristy. After the completion of my degree I started ACCA (Professional Accounting Exams) which I finished last summer in 2007.

I was not a natural at studying but with hard work and determination I have proven that your dreams are achievable. I currently work for a bank in the City and I would find it most enjoyable to put something back into the community. I would like to teach the next generation and make learning fun and inspiring.

Teaching Experience:

In the past I used to tutor young children through the Kumon scheme, a Japenese style of Arithmetic Mathematics. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience and discovered that the best satisfaction one gains is watching a pupil develop and improve.

During my 2-year period with the Kumon scheme whilst I was studying for my GCSE's, I was given a group of pupils to teach. Classes used to be held each Saturday and involved me working through mathematical problems on a personal and group basis. During weekly classes, I would teach new skills, set homework for the following week and mark the previous week's homework by highlighting and explaining any mistakes which were made.

I found it be very challenging at such a early age, taking on a class of pupils and managing individual time with each pupil in the group. However, I thoroughly enjoyed this experience and now after completing all my studies I have more time to invest in teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

I honestly believe that it will always help to give pupils encouragement, inspiration and praise. Every teacher needs to be supportive, dedicated and focused.

I like to make teaching enjoyable, fun and take time to prepare for my classes so that I can make examples that pupils can relate to.

I am very passionate about teaching. I want to feel challenged again and do something worthwhile with my spare time. In my opinion, teaching is one of the most rewarding jobs.
