About Sally:
I am a university student at the University of Warwick studying History of Art and French. I come from Devon where I studied for A Levels in History, English Literature and French and before that GCSEs in which I achieved the highest grades in my year group. I am an understanding and sympathetic tutor as I have recently been through and am still in the education system. This also means I have some knowledge of the curriculum as it stands and methods of teaching used in schools currently. I was taught at the local comprehensive school so I know how tough it can be to receive all the attention a child needs to succeed to their fullest potential. Unfortunately as I am living in student accommodation I would be unable to conduct lessons in my home, and I am able to travel as far as the bus service will allow. I am happy to meet students in a suitable location such as the local library.

I am bright and friendly and extremely patient. My other interests include playing the flute, fashion, photography, art and cooking. I understand that it is extremely difficult to make a decision based on a paragraph of text so am happy to meet with people so that they can get to know more about me.

Teaching Experience:

I spent one year teaching English as a foreign language in two high schools of very different abilities in Paris. I taught children from ages 11 to 17 with a very wide variety of ability. I was able to coax the weaker students whilst pushing the more advanced students to achieve more.

Tutoring Approach:

My skills would be best applied helping tutees with aspects of their course they are finding difficult or do not fully understand, as a supplement to their mainstream learning. I am also more than happy to proof read essays and coursework. I can also help tutees to develop revision techniques, and language memory techniques which I have honed over the years in education.

I can read music and have a good knowledge of music theory and would be happy to give flute lessons.

Furthermore if tutees desire I can offer extra-curricular tutoring in art history.

About Nadem:
I am a graduate of the University of Oxford, where I studied chemistry at both the undergraduate (1st class honours) and post-graduate levels (Masters and Doctorate).

Teaching Experience:

I have 10 years worth of teaching experience at GCSE and A-Level, both as a private tutor, and as an associate of schools and teaching colleges. I have also been fortunate enough to have spent 3 years teaching undergraduate chemistry at the university of Oxford.

Many of my students have shown great improvement. The best result achieved was a particular student whose chemistry grade (A-level) improved from U to an A in 6 months! Most students improve 2 grades at least.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is largely dependent upon what the student is comfortable with. With some I have worked systematically through the syllabus, while with others I have focussed on key areas the student understands. The best approach is for the student to work and find out what they really don't understand, and then to approach me about those topics.

There are several advantages to having me as your tutor.

(1) My academic success results from understanding the foundations of the subject matter and extending these foundations through basic principles. This is the approach I encourage in my students. Though this is harder work in the beginning, it ends up being easier than learning by rote which many tutors try to encourage!

(2) I have university qualifications in both Chemistry and Biology (medicine), and hence, I understand these subjects beyond A-Level. This allows me to see the application of one subject in another, and therefore I can help you obtain a synergy in your studies which will make your life easier. For example an understanding of pH (a chemical concept) helps to understand the control of respiration (a biological concept), and therefore there is less to learn. These cross-links appear throughout the A-Level Chemistry and Biology courses, something that a specialist in only one of these subjects will tend to miss.

(3) If you are looking to enter Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy or any of the other allied health professions I have a unique insight into the application of Chemistry in these courses. Therefore if you are taught Chemistry by me I will give you an understanding of Chemistry which will make your university studies easier. This ability is reflected by the fact that I have been invited to give a series of lectures on the application of Chemistry to Medicine at Slough Grammar School.

(4) Most of my A-Level students (100+) have improved by at least 2 grades after I have taught them, and several have gone from getting an E in AS (before I taught them) to an A in A2 (after I have taught them). Students have gone on to universities to study degrees in Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Economics and Mathematics. Many have gone to study in the top 10 universities in the country.

(5) Having been a lecturer at Oxford I was required to select candidates during the interview process. This process required the reading and dissection of UCAS forms, and interviewing candidates; I therefore know what universities are looking for. I will be able to use these skills to guide you to the most appropriate university for you and to help you produce the best UCAS form you can (when the time comes).

(6) Studying and teaching at one of the most reputable universities in the world (Oxford) has shown me what is required to succeed and be the best. This is a skill and attitude that I pass on to many of my students.

(7) As a medic my background has been checked, and cleared, by the Criminal Records Bureau.

As you can see I offer experiences, skills and teaching methods which many tutors don't even come close to offering. If you choose to select me as your tutor for Biology and/or Chemistry you will be making a positive step, not only towards an excellent A-Level grade, but also towards unlocking your future potential at university and beyond.

About Céline:
I am a French student in Shakespearean literature. I will be doing a master's at Warwick uni next year (academic year 2008-9). I will be in Earlsdon, Coventry, mid september and will be able to start tutoring straight away (I live in France at the moment). Please email me if you are interested as my mobile phone does not work in France.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for 4 years in France as well as in Coventry. Here is a list of students I have had the pleasure to help out:

- Children: 3 French children aged 2 to 7 to whom I taught English through games.
- GCSE: 4 French students attending "college" (French system) aged 11-16 whom I helped in English but also any other subject (homework help)
- A-levels (baccaleaureate): 2 students taking the French Literature baccalaureat exams and 2 students taking the English, Philosophy and History-Geography baccalaureat exams
- University: 1 student who took the Cambridge IELTS test this year, 1 Italian student who took the TOEFL test last year, and several other French students who needed to improve their English
- Adults: 3 people who needed to improve their conversational French.

I am currently working for several tutoring companies in France such as Acadomia, Keespchool or Mthodes Educatives. I am also working as a course leader for the internationnally famous school of English, EF (Education First).

Tutoring Approach:

I generally adapt my methods to each student. According to their weak points, I emphasise on oral or written skills, and I usually talk about a precise grammar lesson every time we meet. But I am happy to work on books, movies, songs or newspapers if this helps you. I am open to any suggestions.

About Nathan:
I am 35 years old and I have done lots of jobs away from teaching; from working on a market stall (cold and wet), to business immigration consultant (about as boring as it sounds), and travelling and working round South America for 2 years. I was born and brought up in South London but will be moving to Glossop in December 2008.

Teaching Experience:

Ten years ago I started work as an English as a foreign language teacher, and over 2 years, gained a wide experience of adult and junior classes, business lessons and one to one lessons. I then qualified as a key stage 2/3 teacher with a specialism in English. I have 6 years experience working in key stage 2, including training for novice teachers at university and mentoring for trainee teachers. Despite my background in English, I have become known as a science and Maths specialist in schools due to my enthusiasm for these subjects.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a passion for learning and a real love of the subjects I teach and seeing young people learn and progress. My sessions are fun and enjoyable, focused on the development needs of the individual to give them to tools, confidence and enthusiasm to take their own learning forward.
