| About Ben: Exclusively professional exams (e.g MBA, CFA, FSA, ACCA), university degrees and International Baccalaureate. Exam-focused "turnaround" expert on difficult cases. Financial Engineering Specialist. City working experience. LSE educated & scholarship. |
Teaching Experience: University of London teacher with 12 years experience. References available. Eraldo, MSc Finance, London Business School "The tutoring was great. I needed help studying for a fairly demanding accounting final and Ben knew exactly how to explain the material to me. He didn't just focus on the class notes, he used his own methods in order to make sure I understood the material. We went though a semester's amount of material in two weeks. I was surprised on how much I actually learned." Derek, FSA Derivatives course "The understanding of the FSA course concepts is strong. This understanding provided me with the big picture fundamentals and confidence required for passing my examination. There was also valuable instruction on study techniques. At a time where I needed support for an exam that was required to work in my position, the tutor was indeed someone I could rely on. At the end of the day I was able to pass my exam and the tutor saved me time and frustration to get through." James, BSc Statistics, Bath University "Regarding the statistics tutoring: The level of teaching was great, obviously had a real understand of the subject, and a good teaching ability. With the help of the tutor lessons, i did manage to increase my examination mark from 27% to 73%, which speaks for itself." |
Tutoring Approach: Successfully produced excellent results with results-driven technique. Depends on the students needs and learning style. Customised strategies to maximise your learning potential. |

| About Noori: I am a 27 year old female fully qualified doctor currently working in Pathology. I gained my medical degree at the University of Glasgow and also attained a BSc in Anatomical Sciences. I have a genuine interest in my subjects and thoroughly enjoy imparting my knowledge and understanding to the people I teach. I also have research experience and have several publications in medical/scientific journals. |
Teaching Experience: My teaching experience stretches from tutoring siblings and family friend's children to teaching medical students and junior doctors. I have always maintained an enthusiasm for teaching and frequently volunteer my self for teaching sessions. |
Tutoring Approach: Being a Glasgow graduate, the emphasis was mainly geared towards problem based learning and this approach continues to feature in my teaching sessions. I take a relaxed approach to teaching and promote open discussion. The use of visual aids and mind mapping, I personally find, is of great value when learning numerous facts. I, however, appreciate that every one's ability to grasp information differs and I have the flexibility to cater to different individual needs. I have an enhanced disclosure scotland certificate. I am free most evenings and weekends and am happy to tutor small groups if required. |

| About Sofia: I really enjoy teaching Spanish and transmit my culture. I am competent and fluent in English, which is a real asset when teaching a foreign language. |
Teaching Experience: I have one year of teaching experience a Mark Twain School, which is a bilingual primary school. Besides, I have given private lessons of English to teenagers. |
Tutoring Approach: I like to consider the student needs and I base my lessons on that. I would use a more communicative approach if the student was to travel to a Spanish-speaking country really soon, and I would focus also on grammar rules and on writing if the student was to sit an international exam. |

Teaching Experience: Currently working full-time in a secondary school as a Mathematics teacher - Years 7 to 11 and A Level Further Maths Mechanics. Gifted and talented coordinator for maths. |

I prepare and deliver the sessions and I will also set the students regular homework so they can consolidate and practise their skills at home. The aim of tutoring is usually to improve the student grades and that can be achieved by continuous revision of the classwork and setting extension work. I do assess my students to know what aspects of maths they need to improve to meet their targets. |

| About Zinnia: I am currently studying for my second masters in MA Near and Middle Eastern studies. I have previously completed a BSC Biomedical Science with a 2:2. I have just completed my first masters in International politics and Human rights. I have a wide range of experience from the science, Mathematics and Humanities. I completed my A-levels In Biology, chemistry and Mathematics and achieved good marks in them. |
Teaching Experience: I have previously worked as a volunteer at the British Refugee council where i have helped refugees with English queries. I have also worked as a reading partner and tutored many family friends. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe it is important to be patient with a student as everyone learns at a different pace. I have myself as a student been tutored and i understand the exact problems tutees may face. I like to teach my examples so i explain the concepts first to the student and then this is followed by showing them an example of the answer and how to analyse and then answer a question. Then i like to give the tutee the oppurtunity to answer some questions as well as ask me about anything they are still confused about. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Gregory: I am an engaged and professional Redlands based Maths tutor, willing to teach G.C.S.E and AS/A2 Level. I have a real passion for Maths which I have continued to study at Bristol University, and want to encourage other people in this much maligned, and often badly taught subject. I am willing to travel to most of Bristol, or if easier for the student teach at my own house in Redlands, and can set up sessions in the evenings and weekends, or certain parts of the day if convenient. |
Teaching Experience: I have tutored for around 2 years, helping people through their AS/A2 Level exams. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is about the visualisation of each question, where just the answer is not enough, but the process to get there is the important part. I think this is something that is often missed out when Maths is taught traditionally, and is congruent with the experiences I've had with previous students. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Jaroslav: I am a 27 years old male PhD student, with double background: in Mathematics and Psychology. Maths is my big love and pillar of my career and Psychology my big interest. That's about me, since I can't think of anything more which would be of general interest at this stage. |
Teaching Experience: Almost 10 years of one-to-one tuition experience prepared and have led math preparation course for university entrance exams altogether 4 semesters worth of demonstrating or teaching undergraduate courses in foundations of mathematical analysis, statistics and research methodology in leading Czech Universities during my postgraduate studies. I am happy to send my CV if you take these things seriously. |
Tutoring Approach: PFFF: patient, focused, fun, flexible In more words: I love teaching, since I find it really rewarding to see the student overcome the hurdles and suddenly realise that maths (or another subject) is much simpler than it seemed to be. It is tricky to try to describe one's "Approach to Tutoring", but one thing I can say is that what people usually point out when they say I make a good teacher is, that I succeed in translating the subject to language of the audience. From my subjective point of view, I just try to go where the student is with his understanding and misunderstandings and work directly with his "mental representation", instead of general truth. The fact that one-to-one tuition enables me to do this even more effectively makes me like it even more than the lecturing (well, then it is much more about establishing contact with the audience and keeping their attention). |

| About Piers: My name is Piers von Berg. I graduated in 2000 from St Andrews University with first class honours in International Relations. I recently completed a Graduate Diploma in Law and Bar Vocational Course at City Law School, London; in my second year I tutored Criminal Law at City Law School. From 2000-2004 I worked for the George Soros Foundation lecturing conflict studies and globalisation. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught international politics for four years and criminal law for one year at university level. I have taught first and second year undergraduates and have much sympathy for those grappling with these subjects for the first time. I have also tutored final year and Masters students. I have taught a lot of basic and advanced essay writing skills for social sciences and law (including legal problem questions). I currently provide tutorials on a private basis. Please note - I have just registered with UK Tutors and I am awaiting my CRB check (I have no previous convictions). |
Tutoring Approach: My first aim is to identify at what stage students are at in their studies and what tasks they have as regards exams or coursework. I would then discuss areas of difficulty with the student, and with younger pupils, their parents. I then discuss and agree with the student how we will go forward together to address these needs. At university level, I find that law and politics students often have difficulty with particular topics which need simple and precise explanations (diagrams also come in useful). For example, telling the differences between subjective and objective recklessness in criminal law, or between neo and classical realism in international relations. In addition, there is no substitute for exam and essay practice, and I always follow this up with extensive and constructive feedback, ideally in discussion with the student to build confidence levels. At A-level social science (e.g. history and politics), there are similar issues such as confidence in exams, exam technique, and discovering what approaches turn a B plus into a strong A grade. For example, learning how to strike balances in "discuss" type essay questions or, being able to use "spider" or "fish" charts to organise thoughts and ideas before writing. Again, practice questions are essential to developing technique and confidence, especially when followed with constructive and affirmative feedback. At GCSE level, I understand a need for shorter and more carefully managed tasks to build up confidence and understanding. For example, 30-40 word answers to several questions on a set text, or a longer 300-400 composition on a particular event or period. This is prefaced by an oral explanation, discussion and question and answer session, as well as set reading. Writing and research tasks are then followed by assessment, discussion, feedback and often, repeat tasks. Across the age-groups I find that identifying mistakes must go hand-in-hand with inviting or suggesting alternatives. Most importantly, students thrive where a teacher can convey an enthusiasm for the subject and find ways to engage the student's interest and attention. |

| About Antonio: I am a 24 years old spanish boy, living near the centre of Nottingham. I like learning languages and sharing with other people, specially the japanese and its culture. |
Teaching Experience: I have some experience teaching spanish to exchange students, mainly english and japanese speakers. I have studied japanese for 4 years, so I can converse and also teach it at a reasonable level. |
Tutoring Approach: I begin the lesson checking how much of the language does the student know, and then try to make them get a spanish pronunciation of every letter of the alphabet. I have some grammar books to use in the lessons. I can move to your home if is not too far away from city center for the class, which can be as long as you think necessary, usually 60 to 90 minutes. I can also use internet, but for the spoken parts would be better to meet in person, as I can help you to correct the english pronunciation and make it sound like spanish. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you
| About Philip: I am an English literature graduate from Cambridge, a teacher, graphic artist, digital photographer, sometime journalist (for arts website The People's Republic of South Devon), poet and actor who has recently returned to my hometown of Exeter. Back now in beautiful Devon, I have had the good fortune of tasting life in various places: I have lived in London, Bristol and Cardiff, and I also spent two years living and working as an English teacher in rural Japan. I love meeting new people and interacting with them on an intellectual and creative basis. I am an excellent communicator and have proven this by forging successful working relationships with people and children of different ages and nationalities. Furthermore, I adore the process of teaching: the awareness that a student has grasped or been exposed to something new, or has made an intellectual leap which he or she would otherwise have not been capable of, is incredibly rewarding and gives me a real buzz. |
Teaching Experience: June 2008-present Artist & Designer of Workshops on Comic Book Art and Graphic Storytelling to schools and community centres in the Exeter area. During my PGCE, specialised in targeting visual learners and delivered end of year assessed presentation on harnessing students' visual imaginations in the teaching of literature. Have designed & delivered workshops to students in Year 6 and above. I have designed a broad range of workshops on both practical and theoretical aspects of graphic storytelling. For more information, see my website and click on "Workshops". Oct 2006-May 2007 PGCE Teaching Placements 1: St Katharine's School in Pill, Bristol. 2: Bettws High School in Newport, South Wales. One of the poorest council estates in Western Europe, Bettws is considered a challenging placement and was extremely helpful in developing my behaviour management skills and strategies. 3: Brimsham Green School in Yate, outside Bristol. Taught individual lessons for all Years 7-13, including Media lessons for Year 13. Adapted, designed and delivered schemes of work for Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12. Responsibility for SEN classes in Years 7 and 8. Observed SEN teaching, drama and media lessons, form tutor sessions, PSE assemblies; engaged in pupil pursuits. Sep 2005-Jul 2006 Supply Classroom Assistant for New Directions Recruitment in Cardiff, working at Primary Schools in South Wales. Also during this period, some private tutoring with the agency 3A Tutors. Jul 2003-Jul 2005 Teacher of English as a Foreign Language in Japan. Worked on remote Japanese island Okinoshima. Employed by local board of education through internationally administered JET (Japan Exchange & Teaching) Programme. Worked at several Elementary Schools (children aged 7-13) and six Junior High Schools (children aged 13-16). Planned & Conducted Lessons on my own and in collaboration with Japanese colleagues. Assisted setting and assessing school examinations. Organised & Presented Seminars during school holidays to Japanese Elementary School teachers wishing to improve their English teaching skills. Produced accompanying literature. Organised Adult Evening Classes on a volunteer basis for the local community running basic conversation classes and English poetry classes. |
Tutoring Approach: Although I have taught in large classes of up to 45, I especially enjoy teaching in small groups or on a 1 to 1 basis. In this environment it is possible to gain an understanding of the way in which the pupil(s) operate(s) and learn(s) and to tailor the teaching accordingly. Fundamentally, I believe that learning must be a creative activity and the student must not be afraid of making mistakes. Furthermore, learning must be a self-conscious activity. The student must be encouraged to reflect on the ways in which he or she learns most efficiently, and to take responsibility for his or her own learning. The tutor, on the other hand, must be sensitive to the various intelligences and talents of his or her students, and adjust the teaching methods accordingly. At Bristol I was influenced greatly by the research on multiple intelligences and the language of learning. |

My experience has also allowed me to work with children with additional support needs and children requiring one-to-one teaching. |
Tutoring Approach: I am friendly and approachable and employ interactive methods in my teaching. In line with the new Scottish curriculum developments, I am aware of the need to put learning into context and everyday situations, especially for those children requiring extra support. I have high aspirations and expectations of the children I teach and help them to gain confidence in their own abilities through the use of praise and by breaking the learning and teaching into smaller manageable tasks. I believe that encouraging the children to ask questions and to think more in depth about their work encourages a greater level of understanding. |

| About Mark: I am 33 years old and a Qualified Primary Teacher. I currently run my own business (SportStart) providing sports coaching for after-school clubs in primary schools across Surrey. I also provide PPA cover in schools during term-time, run school holiday sports academies and deliver exciting children's birthday parties! Although I am very keen on sport, my real passion is working with children, which led me to becoming a primary teacher. Whilst I have great fun teaching sport to children, I do miss the day-to-day teaching in the classroom environment, where life is never dull! |
Teaching Experience: I hold a Primary PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) which enables me to teach children in the 4-11 age range. I spent 2 years teaching at Brookwood Primary School in Brookwood, Surrey, with Year 5 and Year 6 children. I subsequently set up my sports coaching business however during that period I continued to teach, covering PPA time at Windlesham Village Infant School, Windlesham, Surrey, where I taught children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. I currently teach Year 2 children at the Mead Infant School in Ewell, Surrey, where I am employed to cover PPA time as a sports coach. |
Tutoring Approach: I take great pride and satisfaction from helping a child to achieve their full potential. Being able to develop a child's confidence, knowledge and skills is such a rewarding experience - this is what attracted me to teaching! I believe that I am friendly and relaxed but always professional in everything I do. I like to be innovative and find interesting and stimulating ways of helping children to learn and express themselves. With Maths tuition in particular I try to combine practical, often sports-related activities with the teaching of methods to engage a child's attention and focus them on a specific area of learning. I am also fairly flexible in the hours I can work and will go that extra bit further than your 'average' tutor! |

| About Barry: I am a fully qualified English teacher with recent experience of Secondary and Sixth Form teaching at various schools in the region. I graduated from Oxford University with a 2:1 in English Language and Literature. I have a thorough subject knowledge which I can apply to help pupils of all ages and abilities make progress. |
Teaching Experience: I have experience teaching English and English Literature at various schools throughout Sussex over the past few years, from Key Stage 2 to A-Level. I therefore have an in depth knowledge of the demands of the National Curriculum and exam syllabi, and can quickly diagnose a learners' needs and the steps needed to take them forward and make progress in the subject. I also have experience in teaching pupils with a range of special learning needs. I have also spent time as a Language Assistant in France, so I can also offer lessons in French up to GCSE, as well as History, my second subject. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that effective learning and progress in a subject can take place only when a pupil feels engaged and enthusiastic about their learning and comfortable in their environment. I therefore always place these conditions at the centre of any learning experience. After taking an initial assessment of the students' current working level, I design a course that is individually tailored to meet their particular needs. My track record shows that pupils consistently make real progress, but importantly, they enjoy their learning |

| About Meng Chee: I am a Mechanical Engineer working in Guildford. I am a graduate from Imperial College London. Very friendly, patient and approachable person. |
Teaching Experience: I have been giving tuition to students since graduation mainly to GCSE students. |
Tutoring Approach: I prefer to take my students through the fundamentals of the subject before moving to the more advanced level. I believe it is very important to build a stong foundation in whatever subject that the student wishes to pursue to improve. As such, I do not spoon feed my students with answers or solutions without them having a go at their own questions by themselves first. I always encourage my students to do the asking instead of bombarding them with questions. I also prefer to conduct the tuition at the library rather than at home as I feel that the atmosphere there is more suitable for the students to study. But I can travel to the students home if neccessary. |
