About Sarah:
I am 28 years old and I am looking forward to getting married to my long term partner Brendan. We are saving hard, as becoming a personal tutor will hopefully help us save enough to have a truly remarkable time.
I have been teaching in Blackpool and Pocklington for the last 6 years, and in this time I have been dedicated to the children's knowledge and understanding of all the subjects I teach and due to this I have achieved excellent results.
I have two excellent references from previous headteachers and I just successfully completed some teaching based work to progress through to the upper pay scale of teachers.

Teaching Experience:

My first year teaching was in Blackpool, where I taught Y2 children (6-7year old) I successfully completed my NQT year, and then moved schools to have experience of teaching Reception aged children. I then moved schools again where I worked with a team of two other teachers to successfully start a foundation stage unit (nursery and reception) in Blackpool. I worked here for two years, but due to my partner moving to York with work, i moved to Pocklington three years ago.
Since then i have also taught a mixed Y1/2 class, and due to my excellent results with KS1 Sat's, i have been asked to take responsibility for a mixed Y5/6 class as of September.

Tutoring Approach:

I will find out which style of learning will benefit your child the most, whether it be visual or hands on, then i will plan a variety of different lessons to ensure your child receives the best learning style for them.
I feel that being reflective and flexible are important attributes of a teacher, as the ever-changing needs of pupils must be met. I feel I possess these qualities, and I am constantly striving to meet new challenges and situations that arise in the classroom. I always implement a firm but fair code of behaviour management within the classroom, and try to use a variety of teaching strategies to enforce this. I feel that it is particularly important for the children to have a safe learning environment, a place they enjoy coming to and feel relaxed enough to share their knowledge and experiences. I vehemently believe that all children deserve a stimulating and enriching curriculum, a curriculum that will enable them to reach their potential not just academically, but also in a personal and social way. As a teacher I hope to be able to scaffold that development and truly help the children in my care to reach their full potential.

Subjects: French  |  Chemistry  |  Biology
Availability: Weekends / Weekdays
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home

About Katherine:
Hello,

I am a second year graduate medical student currently ge's in London, and I have previously completed a degree in Physiological Sciences at Oxford University.
I'm very keen on science and have always enjoyed Biology and Chemistry, having also studied these subjects at A-level. I would like to tutor these subjects at all secondary school levels through to A-level, and for Biology I can give tutorials at first year undergraduate level.

I am also keen on studying languages and studied French up to AS-level at school, but I also spent 6 months living and working in Paris during my gap year, which has helped me to improve my written and conversational skills. I would be keen to give tutorials to school students at key stage 3 and GCSE level.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as a teacher abroad on two occasions. During the summer of 2006 I worked in Poland for 3 weeks and taught English lessons to teenagers. The lessons were interactive and each teacher used their own ideas to create lesson plans. This experience helped me develop confidence in teaching, and to be creative during lessons.

This summer I traveled to China to teach at a two-week education programme for young people interested in applying for university either at home or abroad (ages ranged from 15 to 19). I designed a series of seminars on medical neuroscience, and taught groups of 8 people. In addition, I gave several one-on-one tutorials. I also gave the students homework assignments and marked them.

Tutoring Approach:

I am an enthusiastic person and I really enjoy working with children and young people.
I would approach the lesson by preparing well in advance in order to get the most out of the session, and I would hope to use my knowledge of how science relates to every day life and also to medicine to make the lessons interesting.
I think it is important to always make sure the student is comfortable with the lesson material and is understanding it, and feels like they can ask questions.

About Raphael:
I am currently reading Aerospace Engineering at the University of Bath, but however live in Bristol right now as I am carrying out a university placement at Rolls-Royce plc. I grew up between Dubai and Bombay and did my GCSEs and A-Levels at a Boarding School. I obtained a total of 9 A's and A*'s at my GCSEs and 3 As and 1 B at my A-Levels. I studied the international board, Cambridge International Examinations, which is focuses on the older style of GCSE and A-Level examining but I did sit a few Edexcel and OCR exams which I feel were ridiculously easy compared to the older grading styles.

Teaching Experience:

At school I taught Middle and Primary School students with learning difficulties English and Maths and tutored GCSE and A-Level students in Physics and Maths. At university I have also tutored a few students in Fluid Mechanics, Solid Mechanics and Manufacturing Engineering subjects. I have also given a few tutor sessions to non-science students in Maths and Calculus. The reason why I would like to tutor now is because working at Rolls-Royce I am often limited in the subject areas I can practice so I feel tutoring will keep me on my toes across an area of subjects.

Tutoring Approach:

I take time to find the right set of problems and notes for a student to practice and I watch students solving problems or arguing essays so I get an understanding on areas in which the need work in. I am a firm believer in fundamentals in Maths and Science so I will make sure the students sorts their understanding out first. When teaching Physics and some maths, I like to use real life examples (e.g., the Emirates Stadium when solving problems about damping) as I find that students are able to grasp concepts quicker this way.

About Alexis:
I am currently a graduate student from Canada, studying medicine at the University of Aberdeen. I have a strong background from my undergraduate degree in life sciences but tutor several non-science subjects as well.

Teaching Experience:

I have privately tutored students for the past 4 years in a variety of subjects including: basic sciences (biology, chemistry), maths, anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, english, writing and reading comprehension. I have experience with students from the elementary to university level.

Tutoring Approach:

Tutoring sessions usually begin with a review of any class lessons or homework that have posed a problem in order to identify areas of weakness, followed by an explanation of the underlying principles. We then proceed to work through assigned material as well as additional problems to ensure complete understanding.
I am very patient and able to explain the reasoning behind what it is that we are doing in order to help the student fully understand the material, allowing them to apply it on their own in the future.
I have experience teaching to students with a variety of learning styles and am able to adapt in order to cater to their individual needs.

About Safaa:
Hello,
My name is Safaa. I am French and have been living in the UK for 11 years.

Teaching Experience:

I worked as a Learning Mentor for 4 years, supporting Year 8 & 9 students with their revision and study skills and helping them prepare for their SAT examinations.
I have taught French and Spanish at Newcastle College.
I currently work part-time as a supply teacher, teaching RE and Citizenship at KS3.

Tutoring Approach:

When tutoring I focus on study skills as much as the subject itself, as I have often found that pupils find it hard to revise, simply because they haven't been taught how to.
I will always spend 5-10 minutes at the end of a language lesson showing my tutees strategies to help them revise and remember what they have just learned.
I adapt my lessons to each individual pupil, based on their specific needs.

About Vijay:
"How often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?" - Arthur Conan Doyle, Sir - The Sign of Four

Which words catch your attention the most in the above quote? - Words "Impossible" and "Improbable" of course. These two words are by far the most strongest ever words that rule the world of possibilities and probabilities. Our day to day life revolves around these words, yet we stay quite unaware of them. We are pursuing the "Truth" behind every material, immaterial entity that we come across.

Even I'm a crusader in voyage of conquering the unknown. Well I had this knack of revealing the unveiled face since infancy. Though I believe Impossible and Improbable lures around, but my fight with them prevails. Every time I face such a situation, I find myself to win it out. Might be 'cause I know what the result will be. Might sound optimistic, but that's how I'm. I graduated in Bachelor of Computer Science and Engineering (1998), also did MBA from Middlesex University (2005) . I have worked in Investment Banks as Business Manager, Project Manager, IT developer & Business Analyst.

Teaching Experience:

Since childhood I always liked Maths, Science and IT subjects. All modern advancements (computers, mobiles, wireless, internet, digital TV, emails) are gifts from these subjects. I always wanted to be in touch with the concepts. The only way I could find was to teach 11-16year old friends. I have taught GCSE level, A level students. They have achieved good scores in their results. I get personal achievement through their achievements.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe everyone is different (just like the fingers in your hand). I also believe in structure. Hence I prefer to adapt a study structure as per the individuals needs. At the same time I don't stick to routine, I prefer to work out what suits best with the individual. To me Learning shouldn't be a chore, one should enjoy learning.
