I am a 22 year old Psychology Graduate, also currently undertaking a Masters in Speech and Language Therapy at City University London. Between studying, I have enjoyed working as a Learning Support assistant, as I like to try to help others to achieve their potential. I am a friendly and sociable person, and like to keep myself busy!

Teaching Experience:
I worked as a Teaching Assistant through an agency for 7 months, which involved assisting learning in a range of appropriate environments on various placements (i.e. Schools/nurseries etc) throughout the week. My main position was at a pupil referral unit, working with 14-16 year olds who had been excluded from school, which meant that I was faced with very challenging behavior on a regular basis. This usually involved one to one support with individuals, small group work, or in class support. I feel that good communication skills, a caring and positive nature, as well as the ability to be emotionally resilient and assertive were crucial to my success in this role.
I volunteered for 2 years with the National Autistic Society as a Befriender. This was originally working with a young child who suffers from Autism and Epilepsy, and then arranging activities for myself and an adolescent boy who suffers from Asperger Syndrome. I offered him social support and advice, and we tried to develop his independence. He appeared to make steady progress, and the experience gave me the opportunity to work with and show respect for people who experience learning difficulties.
I also did voluntary work with the Stroke Association, visiting a lady who had suffered a stroke. We worked on her reading and writing, through a range of work sheets and activities, as well as also trying to improve her deteriorated speech.

Tutoring Approach:
I try to create a relaxed environment, through building up a rapport with each student I work with. I feel it is important for studying to be enjoyable, as well as informative and structured. I am an enthusiastic and motivated person, and try to encourage this approach in others.

I now teach students with learning difficulties. I teach basic skills as well as life skills. I teach cookery, road safety in the community, basic maths as well as basic english and writing skills. I am also at present teaching a child who is dyslexic.

I am primary school teacher and mother who believes every child can achieve a great deal. I know how hard it can be for some children to reach their full potential in a full and busy classroom at school. I have started home tutoring to enable children develop their confidence so that they can feel good about their achievements. Most children have times when they need a little extra boost. I prefer to tutor in my home, where all my resources are at hand. I am willing to travel to your home, I charge an extra 5 per session for this. I can give advice to parents e.g. offering advice on how best to support your child's learning or what to expect when your child starts school, as well as one to one skills tutoring or small group work.

Teaching Experience:
I have been a class teacher in english primary schools for more than twenty years, and have also held the management post for literacy in three of those schools. I have taught many children who have needed different teaching from the majority of their peers and been a SENCo. I have received termly updated training and attend and lead in-service training for primary teachers. I have taught children across the primary age range, from Reception/Foundation stage to Year 6 within the last 6 years. My specialism is teaching reading and writing. I have also taught the maths curriculum throughout my career. I also some experience of adult education and would be willing to assist any more mature person wanting to increase their confidence with literacy.

Tutoring Approach:
I have sets of work to address specific tasks (e.g. Key stage 2 SATs), but prefer to tailor sessions to the specific needs and learning styles of the child. During the first session/s I will assess your child's strengths and in subsequent meetings, address the areas they particularly find challenging. Most sessions will be an hour but I offer 45 minute sessions if appropriate (this is often more effective with younger children). I am happy to assess any child and feedback to you my professional opinion on a one off basis. I have taught French and English for about 12 years in Secondary schools. Then I retrained to teach Relgious Education and worked as head of RE in two schools in my local area. I have always been interested in Special Needs and have helped with spelling, reading and writing to many young people. I am not very strict as a tutor but expect to reach our SMART goals and hope that you will work hard to get your target grade.

Tutoring Approach:
The learning should be an experience that is memorable. I do not agree with just chalk and talk. We will use the internet and research techniques.
