View Kamil's Profile
Availability: Weekends / Weekdays (evenings)
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Kamil: When I commenced my studies in the Teacher Training College in Toruń I decided to devote myself to it. I knew that there are thousands of people studying English and, in order to achieve more than the average, I have to do my best. Fortunately, I realized that studying English is not only interesting but also pleasing, and I have made a distinct progress. In the summer of 2006 and 2007 I worked near Birmingham and this was the time when my eagerness for continuing the studies in the UK was established. Afterwards, under the agreement with the Nicholas Copernicus University I became an extramural student of the aforementioned institution (one-year BA seminar in linguistics). Both in the Teacher Training College and at the University I always achieved very good grades. Therefore, I gained a place at Aston University of Birmingham (Ma in Translation Studies), which was a realization of my ambition. |
Teaching Experience: I had a one-year teaching practice (120 hours). I was teaching two different groups of High School students. The members of the first one were in the first year, whereas the members of the second were in their final year (preparing to pass the polish equivalent of A-levels). Their English language proficiency level was suppoused to be B2 and C1 respectively. Fortunately, these were mixed ability classes so I got the experience of dealing with the problems related to mixed-ability. Furthermore, I had to write a diploma project, in which I used the British media as a study aid and an incentive to self study. As a result, I learned how to collect and incorporate the authentic materials into the lessons of English. |
Tutoring Approach: I consider teaching to be a very complex process which is rewarding. I feel responsible for the success of my learners and gain a lot of satisfaction by watching their progress. A good teacher has to be a comic (to amuse the learners) and a policeman (to keep the discipline), a fortune-teller (to predict what they want and anticipate problems before they arise) and a good observer of what is happening in the classrom. I aim to be a good teacher. |

| About Ghufran: I am 28 years old, working full time as Head of ICT at a local secondary school. I have over 7 years teaching experience and have degree in European Politics and IT. In addition, I have a PGCE in ICT and am currently studying towards a MA in Education Leadership. My interests include travel, football and music. As a father of 2 daughters, I am eager to spend as much of my spare time with them as I am a very 'family-oriented' person. I am a Muslim, non-smoker and do not drink. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught at various schools in Birmingham and have over 7 years teaching experience. I have worked as KS3 coordinator for my subject (ICT), deputy subject leader, assistant head of year and currently I am Head of ICT department (all within secondary schools). I have experience of GCSEs, GNVQs, BTECs and DIDA qualifications. I have also taught adult education (TEFL) and have taught Urdu to younger children. In addition to my Bsc in European Politics and IT, I have a PGCE qualification in secondary education and I am currently studying for a MA in Educational Leadership. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring includes a range of strategies. Each pupils is different and unique and therefore a tailored tutoring approach is needed. My initial approach is always a baseline assessment of the pupil's starting level and needs, therefore allowing the establishment of realistic targets for achievement. I always aim to establish excellent relationships with my pupils as I believe this is the key to maximising achievement. I consider myself to be a caring and motivating tutor and as a father of 2 children, I understand the importance of teaching younger pupils 'life skills' in addition to the academic and subject specific skills. |

| About Mark: I am a 39 year-old graduate, public school educated and with a solid track record in the real-world workplace. I have not been holed up in academia for the last 20 years! I speak Received Pronunciation or "RP" - this means English without a regional accent which can be understood globally and which is well regarded. |
Teaching Experience: I have coached and mentored school leavers in the workplace. I have previous experience working for YWCA day camps in Europe. I work part-time in two Nottingham primary schools, so am familiar with the standards expected of children in the British education system. |
Tutoring Approach: I offer a coaching rather than tutoring service. Many parents do not have the time or the ability to help their children with homework or projects, or to engage their children in educated conversation. Some adult learners also lack the opportunity to speak with accomplished native English speakers. This is nothing to be ashamed of. My own parents were self-made with little formal education and zero academic qualifications, and my mother spoke English as her second language. However, they acknowledged the benefits associated with deliberately exposing me to their more articulate, educated friends. I was therefore the first person in my family to go to university, become a pillar of the community and a well-known name in my profession. I have a particular talent for English Language and I believe it is right to encourage children to speak Received Pronunciation (aka the "Queen's English") because of the professional advantages it will afford in later life. |

| About Jakub: My name is Jakub Malawski. I am a qualified teacher of English language. I come from Poland, where I did my undergraduate studies at the University in English. In England I am starting from September my Master studies in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at Leeds University. I am a fully qualified teacher of English, and on the 27th of May 2008 I was awarded a Qualified Teacher Status by General Teaching Council for England. |
Teaching Experience: During my undergraduate studies in Poland, I had a 15 week teacher training in primary and secondary schools, where I gained the practical and theoretical knowledge about teaching, like also a teaching experience. I also delivered the private lessons of English, as a private tutor. |
Tutoring Approach: I am a highly motivated individual, who knows what teaching is about. During my studies and a teaching experience, I learnt about different methodological approaches to teaching English. I can deliver a highly successful lesson of English, with different methods involved in the process of teaching. I feel a very big vocation to teaching, and this is for me everything, and I just love doing this. |

| About Liliana: I hold a degree in English and French language and literature, possess a CPE certificate awarded by Cambridge ESOL examinations board in London as well as certificates for preparing students for Cambridge exams awarded by the British Council. I can speak other languages at intermediate level. |
Teaching Experience: I have experience in teaching English, ESOL and French both abroad and in the UK . I have taught English and French full time in schools to students aged 7-19 and ESOL to adults in language colleges and privately. |
Tutoring Approach: I am a young, patient and enthusiastic tutor who loves teaching and sharing knowledge. I am not a native English, but this can be regarded as an advantage because this fact enables me to insist more upon spelling and pronunciation combining various methods and strategies by which I was able to acquire language and literature knowledge myself. I believe in interactive teaching using modern methods such as role-play, debates, simulation. Moreover, increasing the students' motivation and self-confidence is equally important. |

| About Lisa: Originally born and brought up in the west London area, I am very familiar with the surrounding areas and schools.. In my spare time I enjoy catching up on reading and learning new recipes to delight family and friends. I enjoy spending a lot of dedicated time with my toddler and providing him with a wealth of experiences. I particularly enjoy carrying out light, fun physical activities such as swimming. . |
Teaching Experience: Undertook a BA (hons) in Primary Teaching Having qualified to teach the age-range 3-11, I further specialized in Science. I have a wealth of experience teaching Mathematics, Reading, Spelling and Writing. I have taught children of all abilities including those who need extra help, those with specific difficulties such as dyslexia and able children. I have also been involved with KS 2 Sats and KS1 Sats. I have also taught basic skills to adults who need an extra boost, or those who have English as an additional language I have taught in many schools as a supply teacher across many age ranges and have also taught as a dedicated teacher with a class of my own for a number of years. |
Tutoring Approach: Having had 6 years of experience tutoring, I have developed my tutoring styles to suit the needs of a variety of children and their own particular learning styles and needs. I have a particular belief that all children have their own unique way of learning and it is important that the tutoring style reflects this in order to allow the children's learning to add value. Tutoring in my experience is the most effective when both the tutee and tutor are comfortable in their roles and have a good understanding and bond. This in turn allows the child to relax and access the curriculum more fully. This bond helps the children relax and therefore access the curriculum more fully. I try to use a variety of resources when tutoring to keep the children engaged and interested therefore promoting learning. Some of which include ICT, Speaking and listening, more traditional pencil and paper methods and many more. This obviously depends on the child's needs, subject taught and parents needs. I find tutoring is a complimentary aid which allows children to advance on a greater level in their classroom environment. |

Some learn visually, others by activities and others by listening so I try to cater for that. I will share with them some of my own learning experiences too. |

Teaching Experience: Private tuitions of EFL and Italian for two years. |
Tutoring Approach: I am currently teaching Italian and have been teaching EFL and Italian for two years. Last year I obtained a CELTA Certificate in order to qualify as a teacher and continue to work in this field. My lessons are structured according to my students' needs, but I also follow an individual plan for each of my students. I have an excellent knowledge of both English and Italian grammar, which helps my students understand how to familiarise with certain constructions (ref. available upon request). Productive and receptive skills development turns out being more effective in one-to-one lessons, where I can help my students improve their accuracy and fluency. After an initial consultation and level assessment, I provide my students with free course book. |
