I am married with 3 children who all go to school in Mold, Flintshire. I teach on the Wirral. My wife is also a teacher in Sealand, Flintshire.
I live close to Mold High Street and can travel up to 5-10 miles.
Due to my managerial teaching position (yukky meetings), I am available for tutoring between 6pm and 9pm.
I am currently Year 3/4 Manager and ICT co-ordinator in a large primary school on the Wirral. My teaching expertise are in Reading, Writing, Maths, Science and ICT. I was, until the funding ran dry, a Leading ICT teacher for Wirral LEA.

Teaching Experience:
Four years teaching in Tower Hamlets, London followed by 11 years until present in a large Primary school on the Wirral. I have worked mostly with KS1 children (age 4-7) but have recently worked with KS2 (age 7-11). A high percentage of the children I work with have Special Educational Needs and I am very familiar with current approaches which I utilise on a daily basis.

Tutoring Approach:
I think the most fundamental lesson any adult can learn is that you cannot teach and unhappy child. So - no boring workbooks and stern faces then. Relationships with children are key and I have a pretty good track record at getting the best out of the children I teach.

From experience I know that we need to work in small steps, identify the mistakes kids make and think of a way to fix them. Most children (and adults) have mix-ups and confusions that slow their progress and cause uncertainty in their understanding. When we sort these out, confidence improves and the tricky things become distant memories.

At the end of the day, it's your money and if you feel a tutor is right for your child, then I'm here to work with you in a way that suits you. I fully encourage parents to sit in on lessons if they want and ask questions. It's a good learning opportunity all round.

Depending on what the student wants, I tend to tutor to the exam with lots of exam questions & teaching tailored to specific topics that cause worries. I like to do practical activities & have a microscope to view slides & living specimens. I'll do simple dissections, experiments & other things to make the session more interesting. All my tutees say they like the chance to do practicals either because they didn't understand it at school or college or, because they are given the time to take it in or, just the chance to do it again.

I charge a travel fee (like most travelling tutors) of about 3.00 although this is variable according to distance of course. SPECIAL tutoring rate if you would like more than 1 hour at a time: 1 travel fee only charged e.g. GCSE 1.5 hrs = 23 + 1 x travel + 11.

In 2004 and 2005 I spent 6 months in Panama tutoring. I worked with students ages 9-16, and worked primarily with students who had grown up speaking English and had only recently been enrolled in Spanish speaking schools.

Tutoring Approach:
Most student I have worked with have been learning for a specific exam or syllabus. Therefore, I usually use this as the starting point from which to begin each lesson, and then try to discover which aspects of a subject interest the student and use this to build their knowledge base and understanding upon.

Hi my name is Ben and I have recently graduated from Cambridge University with a degree in Natural Sciences, specialising in Physics. I currently work part time as a youth worker for Calderdale council running a play centre in Halifax. I intend in the near future to get back into physics through a profession, but at the time being I am 'giving back' if you like to my local community doing a job that I adore. I tutor though to keep in touch with science and helping people learn is something I take great joy and pride in.

As far as my hobbies go I play football and cricket, swim, paintball, DJ and play bass guitar in a local band.

Teaching Experience:
I have been tutoring since I was at 6th form college all the way through university. I have no formal teaching experience and I do appreciate that I am young; however, I think this is an advantage as I have recently done all the examinations the students will be studying for giving advice as well as tutoring.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach is laid back and informal. It is important that the tutee is relaxed and comfortable to ensure they learn as well as being honest about things they don't understand and letting personal pride effect matters. The sessions will done by setting a problems/examples sheet for the tutee to undertake, the sheet will then be handed in before the session. During the session the questions will be worked through and problem areas highlighted and addressed.

I have taught the Earth Science module for the HNC Habitat Surveying for Nature Conservation, have been an adult tutor through the Community Education department of Balerno High School, I have worked at local museums as an Assistant Curator giving tours and taking part in handling days and fossil replica making workshops.

Tutoring Approach:
Very hands one. I would rather take students out into the field to show them landforms than sit them down with a book. However, interactive technology means that students can now travel overseas from the comfort of their home via the internet. For religious studies I like to visit sipiritual communities and have students experience the festivals of the siritual community being studied wherever possible/appropriate.

About Helen:
I am currently a postgraduate student at the University of Leeds, I am due to start a PGCE course in secondary Physics in October 2008. In 2006 I gained a BSc (2.1 hons) in Astronomy and Philosophy, this covered all areas of physics to some degree including relativity, cosmology, quantum mechanics, atomic structure, mathematics for physicists and the history of the universe. I also studied relevant philosophy modules such as Philosophy of Science, Space and Time, and Biology. I am about to complete a MA in Philosophy of Physics, this course has involved studying the implications of relativity and quantum mechanics as well as the history of science and the impact of science on religion. It has involved considering how science should be defined, how it progresses and whether modern theories can be considered 'true'.

In order to share my enthusiasm for science I have created a website, The Star Garden, where I publish educational articles on all areas of science.

Teaching Experience:
From October 2008 I will be enrolled in an online course with Canterbury Christ Church University in order to gain a PCGE in Secondary school Physics. This 18 month course will involve a total of 6 months teaching experience.

Tutoring Approach:
I have a friendly, informal approach which I can adapt to the needs of the student. I believe that the best way to understand something is to find an interest in it and so I hope my enthusiasm will be encouraging. I have travelled studying through Iceland and Italy, as well as around the UK.

Teaching Experience:
I occasionally sit with first year university students and help them work through their modules, as well as leading study groups. I also spend a lot of time with adult friends from other disciplines, helping to explain topics such as climate change, or volcanism.
I also run educational workshops in local high schools, teaching market economics, entrepreneurship and business skills.

My education has led me always to look at the relationships between areas of study, for instance, the ocean has currents and the atmosphere has currents, but how do these affect one another? or how does volcanism affect climate change?
