| About Female: From the Manager of My Child's Education 'My Child's Education' was started by a husband and wife team. My name is Aminur Rahman. I am a medical doctor, aged 29 and currently working full time. My wife, Shahina Ahmed is a full time mum. We have two daughters. The first is aged 5 years and the second is 1 year. While thinking about the future of our daughters' education we realised that there was no facility for quality private tuition with which we would be completely satisfied and to which we could send them to in the future. This is why we decided to set up 'My Child's Education' in November 2006. We believe that there are many other parents who think similarly. We believe that many parents would like their daughters to be tutored by high quality female tutors in a safe environment where they can interact with other similar girls to reach their potential. I myself have high expectations of both tutors and students, having received a high quality education myself as a child and having achieved straight A's in 11 GCSEs (including 4A*) and 2 A's and 2 B's at A-level before going on to University. I have both received private tuition myself and also tutored children during my student days. These experiences have given me an insight into what is actually required for success. We run this organisation as efficiently as we can and without hiring unnecessary staff, thereby reducing running costs and ultimately the fees to a minimum. The fees primarily go towards class hiring costs and tutors' fees. We aim to offer some of the best pay rates around in order to attract the best tutors. I hope that your child will enjoy and benefit immensely from the tuition she receives at My Child's Education. If you ever have any questions, queries or concerns then please do not hesitate to contact me. Dr Aminur Rahman |

Tutoring Approach: 'My Child's Education' has been set up to set up with the aim of providing a weekend school of a high quality for bright girls aged 8 - 16 (Years 4-11) where all the students and teachers are female. Many parents in the local community would prefer their daughters to receive private tuition in a female only environment due to cultural, religious or safety concerns. There are no such weekend schools available for this group of students and parents in Birmingham. Hence this scheme. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Graham: I am a married father of two children and have completed a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Bradford, and a PhD in Medicine from the University of Birmingham. For the past three years I have worked as a Biomedical Scientist in Histopathology, specialising in Molecular Pathology and Genetics at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. I am extremely enthusiastic about science and medicine, and really enjoy lecturing and teaching. I aim to simplify complex concepts and enhance understanding in all pupils, regardless of their academic abilities. |
Teaching Experience: During my career I have been responsible for training junior staff, practically and academically, in small groups and on an individual basis. I have also lectured on several occasions to groups of people, including presentations at scientific conferences, explaining concepts to people with varying levels of understanding of the subject. Over the past 5 years I have tutored many GCSE, A-level & University students in Biology and Chemistry with notable success. |
Tutoring Approach: I understand that each student is different and has individual requirements. I first arrange to meet the pupil (and their family where appropriate) face-to-face and on a no-fee basis to discuss the requirements and identify the subject areas they are finding the most difficult. If we both agree to start personal tuition, we then work through the relevant syllabus and I simplify and explain the areas of difficulty using examples and visual aids. I try to build up the confidence of the pupil as much as I can, as I see this as a crucial aspect. I also set homework if this is desired by the pupil and family, including set exam questions relevant to the syllabus. |

| About Corrine: I have been tutoring for the past 3 years and thoroughly enjoy it. Individual sessions allow me to personalise the learning experience for each student which has proven very successfully for all my past students. |
Teaching Experience: I am a qualified teacher and work in a secondary school in Wolverhampton. I have been doing private tutoring for the past 3 years. I am also a marker for the OCR examination board, this year marking the additional science series. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach depends on the student. I usually focus my sessions around past exam papers to try and familiarise the student with what they can expect on exam day. If a student is excellent at recall but is struggling with higher level skills such as analysis and evaluation I can also help to develop these skills. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home
| About Aleha: I am a University of Birmingham Medical Biochemistry and Toxicology Post Graduate who has been working in the NHS for the last 10 years. I lead a team of medical scientists on a daily basis and also train and educate other scientists. I have a passion for imparting knowledge. I am a very sociable, amicable person who has a genuine desire to teach, motivate and mentor our future generation. I wish to help create intelligent and confident young minds and guide them onto the path to success in every aspect of life. |
Teaching Experience: I have no formal teaching qualifications, however I have exceptionally high academic achievements and teach graduates and undergraduates the principles of medical science and analytical chemistry. I have also tutored several members of my family and friends, who have gone onto Grammar Schools, University and are successful in their current careers. |
Tutoring Approach: My philosophy is that "wisdom grows from study". Children posses the greatest and most intelligent minds. As a tutor, my job is to nurture and bring out the best in a child. Encouragement and enthusiasm is what drives children and makes them want to learn more and strive to succeed. I believe in repeating and practising subject areas which are difficult. Setting attainable targets and helping a child achieve such targets is a pleasure. Every child is intelligent and has an abundance of potential and energy. I hone in on that energy, and encourage them to have self belief to reach their full potential. All it takes is a little patience and perseverance. Through study, every child will learn to be focused, disciplined, mature, wise and self confident. That is what I aim to teach. My subject knowledge, is superb, in all the areas that I teach. |

| About Khurum: I am a passionate, confident and energetic private tutor who can ensure your child achieves their expected level if not higher. I have an excellent tutoring record from boosting pupil confidence so that they can perform better in exams and coursework to pupils passing selective entrance exams thereby achieving their ambitions. I am realistic and set measurable yet challenging targets for my private students. I strongly believe in that if a student works hard and is dedicated, they will achieve their ambitions and desires. I have and always will endeavour to deliver at the highest level to achieve this. |
Teaching Experience: I have worked in primary and secondary schools since I was reading for my Biochemistry degree at King's College London. I have worked as a school mentor and teaching assistant before embarking on my teacher training course. I have gained a Post Graduate Certificate in Education Studies qualification from Keele University. As part of this course, I had placements in 3 different schools both primary and secondary. I have been a private tutor since 2002. Despite being new to this role, I'm very energetic and full of ideas which have guaranteed success. Being young is advantageous as I can motivate your child to perform at their best if not higher. |
Tutoring Approach: Confident, dedicated and passionate approach, using a wide range of teaching methods tailored to how your pupil learns. My lessons are enjoyable and exciting, which I feel is important so that the pupil doesn't lose interest. I also have the ability to adapt the pace of the lessons thereby sustaining the pupils attention and concentration. I use a wide range of resources depending on the level of study. For example, for a GCSE Maths student, as part of their homework, I assign sufficient GCSE exam-style questions right from the beginning so that the pupil is able to come to terms with the standard required of them. I use a wide range of textbooks and other literature as appropriate. I have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, which I use to ensure parents are aware of their child's progress and to inform them of my future lessons. |

| About Ben: I'm a friendly, relaxed and very approachable private tutor. I'm a student myself once again currently training to be a doctor at the University of Warwick (In year 2 of 4) - Aiming to become a GP. I love teaching and plan to be involved in teaching in the future once qualified as a doctor (most likely in University Medical Schools). Previous students I have tutored have said that they enjoyed the sessions, found them very helpful and well planned. Most students I have tutored in the past achieved grades higher than they were expecting. I have a 1st Class honors degree from the University of Birmingham, with my first year being at the University of Adelaide in Australia, have achieved numerous academic prizes (listed below) and have quite a lot of experience as a private tutor and in other teaching environments (See below). |
Teaching Experience: 2 years private tutoring of Chemistry students (A-level and University of Adelaide 1st year Chemistry and Maths students), Maths (International Bac., A-level, 1st year univsersity level and primary school students). 14 months as a teaching assistant at the Old Hall School, Wellington, Shropshire. (Lessons for years 3-8 often unsupervised in Maths, Science, French, German, PE/swimming). Also helped school boarders with their homework in these subjects. 2 years as a swimming instructor in Australia for 4 to 15 year olds. |
Tutoring Approach: In the first session, I would give an extra hour free of charge. This would enable you to see whether my tutoring style would suit you and also to determine what goals you would be working towards (ie specific A-level/GCSE grades, passing entrance and or other exams) in addition to identifying what level you are currently at and planning how you wish future sessions to run. I tend to run sessions quite flexibly (and can adapt for individual needs) in that we can cover whatever material you wish (ie areas you find problematic, current course work etc). We can also work together in a more structured format if you wish (ie systematically working through the syllabus or through work/exercises/exam-style questions I would prepare myself beforehand). I would also provide you with my university email address so you can email me with questions between sessions which I will try to answer as soon as possible. |

Teaching Experience: Qualified teacher with 3 years experience of teaching in state schools. I have taught in an inner city school envirionment and have also taught students of high ability in an 'outstanding' school achieving 100% 5A*-C GCSE passes. Experience of teaching at KS3, 4 and 5. AQA GCSE science (separate sciences, dual award, core science, additional science and additional applied). At AS/A2 level I have taught chemistry (OCR Salters and OCR). Also qualified to teach AS/A2 biology. I am an established teacher on the Salters chemistry camps for GCSE students and have been accepted as an assessor for the OCR examination board. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is to offer assistance which is student-led wherever possible. Students are usually well aware of areas of difficulty and of their own preferred learning styles. My aim is to provide a service that is tailored to the learning style of the student and focused on their individual needs. I expect that the tutor session will be informal and relaxed but also intense and productive. Each session should encourage the student that progress is being made, that classroom teaching has been re-enforced and that scientific concepts have been understood fully. |

| About Rebecca: I am an enthusiastic and experienced teacher of Chemistry/Science. I graduated from University of Bristol in 2004 with an honours degree in Chemistry. |
Teaching Experience: I have been teaching in the state and independent sector for 3 years. Since achieving QTS status I have taught the full range of sciences up to GCSE with experience of several exam boards. In addition I have taught A level and IB Chemistry. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that the approach taken during tutoring sessions depends on the individual students' needs and the timescale involved for the tutoring sessions. If only a short amount of time is available before sitting exams it is important to focus on exam technique and past paper questions. If more time is available we can develop a structured plan that based around the student needs and weaknesses starting with the basics. I am an enthusiastic teacher who likes a relaxed atmosphere with tutees so they feel comfortable enough to ask questions. |

| About Victoria: I love learning and like helping others to enjoy learning too! I am a friendly, caring and approachable person who will do my best to help you to help yourself. I have been an Archaeologist for 10 years, having completed both undergraqduate and postgraduate qualifications, and have run interesting, practical tutorials for a number of years both in schools and universities. My primary interests are in science, but I have an excellent all-round knowledge of many subjects. I have a baby boy, several nieces and nephews and love outdoor activities and cooking in my spare time. |
Teaching Experience: I have been teaching Biology, Anatomy, Archaeology, Psychology, Geology and Geography tutorials to university students for 7 years. I have also taken practical tutorials to school children held both in and out of schools. Examples include - Human Evolution, a look at the fossil evidence. Archaeology is Rubbish. Stone Tools - their use and manufacture. Changing Faces - the skulls of our ancestors. I am currently tutoring students in Geogoraphy and Science subjects at GCSE level. |
Tutoring Approach: I offer individual or group tuition. I believe there are several ways in which we learn and I try to find the best way for each individual student and structure the tutorials accordingly. I believe the only way to learn is to understand so I work on the foundations of a subject area so that the student is then enabled to learn independently and to achieve their goals. I can offer intensive revision in preparation for exams or a more gentle companion tutorial to the student's current curriculum. I can also offer short revision cramming or catch-up courses during school holidays as well as weekly sessions. I am very flexible so please get in touch to discuss your needs further. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Keith: I am a graduate in Engineering from Brunel University, going on to do a Masters in Aerospace Engineering this September. Before I embarked upon University life I completed a full craft apprenticeship and went on to lecture at Warwickshire College. My degree called for a very high level of maths and sciences so I am fully able to accommodate all students needs up to University level. |
Teaching Experience: I became a part-time lecturer at a further education college in 2001, where I taught an engineering drawing class. The subject is full of complex geometry and I enjoyed the preparation for each lesson and the challenge of teaching. At the end of my first year my colleagues thought that I had a natural ability and approached me with the offer of a full-time teaching post. The teaching responsibilities covered a range of disciplines found within engineering such as material science, maths, physics, technology and practical workshop activities. Another essential part of the role was external NVQ assessment in collaboration with local companies such as Land Rover, Jaguar, Aston Martin and Rolls Royce. |
Tutoring Approach: I have an open and supportive style to my teaching and believe it is important to make the student feel at ease during any period of learning. A tutor must centre the lesson around the student group or individual's capabilities, this can be achieved by highlighting an objective set in a particular curriculum, assessing prior knowledge and finally guiding them though to meet the objective. |
