About Helen:
I have recently graduated from Oxford University with a degree in Biological Sciences. At A-level, I obtained A-grades in physics, maths (mechanics), chemistry and biology so I have a strong scientific background.

I am currently based in Northampton, but will be moving to Leamington Spa from the end of September to do a Masters course at Warwick University. I would be happy to travel some distance (up to around 30 miles) for one-off or irregular tutoring, but this would not be possible on a regular basis. Regularly, I would be able to travel around 5 miles from Leamington on a weekly basis, or tutor in the Northamptonshire area once a fortnight. I can be somewhat flexible though so please get in touch.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught basic biology to large groups of students in Tanzania, as part of a volunteer programme.
When in 6th form, I spent time helping lower school maths lessons.

Tutoring Approach:

Flexible, I would be happy to take a range of approaches, I think that an individual strategy for each student is very important.

About Yvonne:
I am currently a secondary school Biology Teacher. I obtained both my PhD and MSci degrees from Glasgow University and during this time I spent considerable time in both academic and industrial laboratories.

Teaching Experience:

-Current secondary school Biology teacher
-Extensive experience of tutoring university students at all levels in both practical skills and theoretical knowledge
-Experience of aiding students and pupils to write in a scientific manner including advanced higher laboratory reports and honours project reports
-Experience of tutoring school pupils at all levels
-Experience of tutoring individuals and groups of varying sizes

Tutoring Approach:

I have no one approach to tutoring. The method(s) I use will be determined by the individual, how he/ she prefers to learn and what he/ she wants to achieve from the tutoring sessions. I feel that if an individual feels relaxed and is enjoying a subject, he/ she will learn more effectively. I am comfortable using all standard teaching methods including practical demonstrations, extensive questioning, written work and past papers. My position as a newly qualified teacher reguarly exposes me to new ideas and methods in teaching which I would be happy to try if I feel they may of benefit.

About Stephanie:
My name is Stephanie, and I'm 23. I have 10 GCSEs at A* or A grade level, 4 A levels at A-C level, a first class degree from the Univeristy of Nottingham in Art History and Classical Civilisation, and an MA in Art History from The University of Manchester. I love learning and helping others, I am very personable and friendly, organised and professional.

Teaching Experience:

I have no classroom experience.

Tutoring Approach:

As part of the tutoring responsibility, I would take care to prepare effective and helpful tutorials, including exercises for the tutee, and homework where appropriate. I would hope to encourage the tutee in their studies and help them to enjoy their work, rather than resent it. I would ensure that I was fully prepared and conversant in the necessary topics and ensure a detailed knowledge of the tutee's requirements (specific curricula, level of teaching, necessary texts, marking schemes, etc). I have an excellent command of English, I am patient and imaginative, and never condescending or patronising. I believe these qualities to be essential in a tutor.

About Flora:
I am a 25 year old woman living in Bedminster. I studied BSc Genetics at Swansea University and graduated in 2004. I achieved the Ivor Isaac Memorial Prize for Microbiology for my dissertation.

Teaching Experience:

I have two years qualified teaching experience. I have taught GCSE for both years (AQA syllabus), and A-level biology (SNAB) for one. I find science really interesting, especially genetics which is my specialism. I am confident teaching physics and chemistry at Key Stage 3 and also most topics at GCSE (electricity, energy, forces. atomic structure), although some areas I am less confident on (waves and radiation, metals, earth materials).

I am able to offer SNAB teaching at A-level (biology) but only units 'On The Wild Side' and 'Grey Matter'

Tutoring Approach:

I love science and love seeing it all around me. I find it fascinating and like to share this fascination with others. My teaching style is enthusiastic, patient and comprehensive. I am happy to branch out into other areas of discussion if the session leads that way, it's all part of the learning process, and helps to stimulate interest. In 121 teaching I hope to take the teaching outside of the room, perhaps into the kitchen, the outdoors... where ever the teaching can be maximised. We may even set up projects where relevant and accessible, so aid learning.

About Wilson:
I am an easy-going, humorous, graduate who is currently reading medicine at St Hugh's College, Oxford University. I possess a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences as well as a Masters of Public Health. I love teaching, and I enjoy helping students understand and appreciate math and science.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as a tutor since Summer 2004; teaching both math and science subjects to high school students. I have also led small classes in Biology and Chemistry for 1st and 2nd year undergraduates at my University.

Tutoring Approach:

I do not believe in giving out answers. If you are looking for a tutor who does your homework, then I am perhaps the last person you should consider. My approach to teaching focuses on development of the thought process when approaching math and science subjects. I challenge my students to think through problems--occasionally providing hints--in order for them to truly understand and develop their own answers to the problems. When approaching new topics, I often use examples from real-life to help my students relate to the topic being discussed.

Because a few hours a week of tutoring is hardly enough for the student to fully understand the subject, my approach focuses on laying a framework on which the student can then go on to study more effectively for that subject. Having taught several students over the last few years, I am familiar with the thought barriers that a student faces when studying for a subject and I usually address them before it becomes an issue for the student, thus allowing my students to maximize their study time.

I find that students who are self-motivated will benefit most from my approach even if they may not currently be doing well in school. Several of my previous students have enrolled in Ivy League Universities as well as other top institutions across the U.S.

About Furqan:
I am currently studying for a MBBS & BSc at Imperial College London and at present am in my final year of a study. Medicine is a dynamic, creative, challenging and competitive field. It is a very demanding course and warrants a lot of hard work, commitment, responsibility and team work. I have undertaken numerous communication skills programmes and team work classes whilst at Imperial College which have helped me to further develop my people skills, this is particularly important as I deal with patients on a day to day basis, which I enjoy very much. Communicating efficiently with patients involves great skill and the ability to gain ones trust. I believe I exhibit all of these qualities in my academic, professional and personal life. I am a focused individual with great ambition, high standards and expectations and enjoy working in competitive team environments these qualities form the foundation of my success.

Teaching Experience:

I have written over 500 articles for a healthcare website and have been tutoring privately for the last 2 years.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to get the best out of each student, tailoring my teaching to their individual needs. Whether it be exam focused tutoring, or just some extra help, I'm enthusiastic and focused and want to make learning fun.

As well as standard tutoring i can help students prepare for medical interviews and provide them with some insider tips!

About Samuel:
I am an approachable, flexible easygoing personal tutor. I've have a range of qualifications in multi-disciplinary areas, which means that I am skilled in dealing with people from a all walks of life, and from many different backgrounds.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring since I started my first degree in 1996. Since then I have bee personal tutor to well over 100 students, from all backgrounds, all disciplines, and all age groups (including adult tuition).

Tutoring Approach:

I have a flexible tuition style, and draw from a wide range of real life examples to help student make sense of complicated or confusing concepts, or just to concrete what they already know. In addition, I am a skilled communicator and I lecture and lead seminars all over the world. Of course, tuition is results driven; most often those are entrance exams, or public exams. I have successfully helped student realise their full potential and go on to bigger and better things.

Students generally fall into one of two categories. Those that require additional support with the material they are covering in class, and those that need the tutor to structure lessons and material to teach the subject areas covered in the syllabus. I am able to take either approach.

I am 22 years of age with a previous forces background. Left the RAF to pursue a career in Law and I am currently training to be a Barrister.
I am a very educated person with a sound knowledge on a variety of subjects.

Teaching Experience:

I have 3 students currently of which I teach a variety of subjects. I have also previously taught family members in which my own brother down to my help received levels 8 in this year 9 SATS.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is that in order to gain the best out of the student, they need to receive the best from me. I usually ensure that everything which is being taught is for a purpose and the person I am teaching to has a clear understanding of the subject being taught. I am also aware of the fact that some are more academic than others and I have various methods of drawing out the best in a student. Usually this involves an initial assessment of the needs of the student and a plan of how we are going to aim to achieve these goals.

In Birmingham I had students ranging from SATs to A2, all of which achieved the grades they needed to secure the next step in their education.

Tutoring Approach:

The time will be spent as you wish. I can prepare lessons tailored to your needs with your guidance. I like to approach Science from a different view point to broaden understanding, piecing together and linking what you have already done in school. Alternatively, I am more than happy to go right back to basics with topics that you do not feel as comfortable with. I have a relaxed teaching approach which has been popular with students in the past. I can also go through past papers giving handy tips on exam and revision techniques.

About Charlotte:
I am a qualified secondary science teacher who is currently completing a PhD in neuroscience at the Peninsula Medical School. I have a degree from the University of Bath in Biochemistry. As a qualified teacher I know the importance of working to the needs of each individual and changing the way that work is completed to help with areas of difficulty. I can teach small groups if tutees feel that they would like to do this - price negotiable.

Teaching Experience:

I have just completed my teacher training and am up to date with approaches to teaching and assessment. I know the current syllabuses for multiple exam boards. I have taught all three sciences at Key Stage 3 and GCSE. Teaching A level Biology and Chemistry in both comprehensive and grammar schools within the county. I have tutored pupils at all ability ranges whether they want tutoring to help them to understand topics of difficulty or to improve to higher levels of understanding.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a relaxed and friendly approach to tutoring. working on a one to one basis can be a very rewarding experience for both tutee and tutor. The important thing is to adapt the tutoring and learning to the individual, I am able to do this easily and feel that this makes me a strong tutor as I can help tutee's to relate to the work.

About Natasha:
Hello. I am currently a third year medical student, who is friendly, patient and willing to teach! Having recently completed my school education, I am aware of the pressures that young students face nowadays, with entry into university becoming more and more competitive, and feel that I have the insight into helping students to the best of their ability, to the grade that they would like to attain.

I have received several academic prizes at school, including 'Outstanding Scholar of the Year' Award when I left secondary school, and then was awarded an Academic Scholarship for 6th form at one of the top UK boarding schools, whereby I was a full time boarder.

Science has always been my forte at school, and I acheived 3 A grades at A-level in Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry. My AS Level was in English Literature, also at grade A. I would therefore be comfortable in tutoring Mathematics, the 3 Sciences and English to GCSE level.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Teaching Experience:

I have had experience teaching students to GCSE level in the subjects I have mentioned above, and am also a mentor for medical students in the years below me at Medical School.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a relaxed, yet committed approach to tutoring. I am willing to be able to teach students topics that they are finding difficult, or alternatively going through specific problems that they have outlined. The choice is ultimately upto them.

Tutoring Approach:

I adopt flexible and personalised approach to cater for students at different levels and I wish to conduct the learning process in a relax and fun environment. I am motivated to disseminate beyond subject-specific knowledge in encouraging the awareness of transferable skills (writing and critical thinkings) and to put things into context by helping tutee to realise the implications of a specific topic in a wider perspective. This often involve discussion beyond the subject on which I'm tutoring to help understanding and tips to get top mark in the exams including calculator technology. Furthermore, you'll be getting more value for the money you spent as I frequently do over time without charging. My objective is to achieve an agreed level of understanding within a session with my tutee which is not strictly adhere to the timeslot.

Personal motte: "To empower and to boost self-confidence, not to patronise"
