Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is to offer assistance which is student-led wherever possible. My aim is to provide a service that is tailored to the learning style of the student and focused on their individual needs. I expect that the tutor session will be informal and relaxed but also intense and productive. Each session should encourage the student that progress is being made, that classroom teaching has been re-enforced and that scientific concepts have been understood fully. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home
| About Aleha: I am a University of Birmingham Medical Biochemistry and Toxicology Post Graduate who has been working in the NHS for the last 10 years. I lead a team of medical scientists on a daily basis and also train and educate other scientists. I have a passion for imparting knowledge. I am a very sociable, amicable person who has a genuine desire to teach, motivate and mentor our future generation. I wish to help create intelligent and confident young minds and guide them onto the path to success in every aspect of life. |
Teaching Experience: I have no formal teaching qualifications, however I have exceptionally high academic achievements and teach graduates and undergraduates the principles of medical science and analytical chemistry. I have also tutored several members of my family and friends, who have gone onto Grammar Schools, University and are successful in their current careers. |
Tutoring Approach: My philosophy is that "wisdom grows from study". Children posses the greatest and most intelligent minds. As a tutor, my job is to nurture and bring out the best in a child. Encouragement and enthusiasm is what drives children and makes them want to learn more and strive to succeed. I believe in repeating and practising subject areas which are difficult. Setting attainable targets and helping a child achieve such targets is a pleasure. Every child is intelligent and has an abundance of potential and energy. I hone in on that energy, and encourage them to have self belief to reach their full potential. All it takes is a little patience and perseverance. Through study, every child will learn to be focused, disciplined, mature, wise and self confident. That is what I aim to teach. My subject knowledge, is superb, in all the areas that I teach. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home
| About Caezar: Hi! I'm a hard working Phd Student and have always worked hard during my life. I am currently working on a Phd at Birmingham university specialising in Structural Biology. I have a Bsc in Pharmacology from Cardiff university and have 2A's (Chemistry and Psychology) and a B (Biology) at A-level with a B (Physics) at AS level. I have 1A* (Chemistry) 8A's (Maths, Physics, Biology, English Language, Geography, History, Business Studies, German) and 1 B (English Literature) at GCSE. As well as studying Pharmacology at University, I have worked part time during term time and full time during the summer, for three years, at Phones 4 U. This gave me a great understanding in how to interact with people (especially teenagers) so that we could clearly understand each other. I have a fun loving towards life with a never give up attitude! |
Teaching Experience: During my 6th form years I was head of my school house which meant organising with the younger years their inter-house sporting events as well as encourage them on the field. It taught me to really understand their viewpoints so you could ultimately help them achieve their goals. While I was undertaking my Bsc at Cardiff university I mentored younger years with their essays in their style and approach and was always happy to help via emails. Now undertaking my Phd at Birmingham University, I am often asked to demonstrate and help answer questions during Lab time with BSc Biochemistry students. |
Tutoring Approach: I begin with understanding where the pupil is having his/her basic problem i.e. is it a matter of confidence in the topic or difficulty in understanding the overall understanding of the topic. Once these are gauged I like to start off gently as I found myself to learn much more easily when things are broken down into their very basic concepts. As the sessions progress I am very happy to give homework (with the amount initially discussed between the parents, pupil and I so that not to interfere with school work) so that the progress of the pupil is monitored. Overall I like to think I am very approachable and want the pupil to ask as many questions as possible as I believe that a pupil that asks questions will be the ones that will get their desired results. ***Free first tuition*** (with the purchase of an additional 5 Bulk teaching sessions) ***Discounts available upon bulk requests*** |

| About Leela: I am a fun, confident and friendly person who loves to be able to give others the opportunity to better themselves and learn more about specific subjects. I am a very organised individual and like to expect this same attitude from the person I am teaching. At A-Level I achieved full marks for one of my English Literature papers and achieved 2 A's and a B. I have a Bsc (Hons) degree in Speech and Language Therapy from University College London which is now 7th in the world rankings, and have received the degree prize for achieving best theory to practice application. Due to my university being very academic, I have had to adopt an organised and professional attitude to my studies and hope that this is reflected in my teaching. |
Teaching Experience: I have done tutoring at GCSE level before for French and found this extremely rewarding and so would like to continue tutoring for other subjects such as Biology, Drama and English Literature. I like to be very visual with my students for example doing spider diagrams, brain storms and always making sure that the understand something before moving onto a new topic. I have also done "Teaching English as a Foreign Language" (TEFL) abroad for a summer where I taught in a deaf school in Bangalore, India. This developed my patience greatly and made me learn new and valuable skills. Throughout my degree, I have had the opportunity to teach young children from 2 years right up to 16 years how to deal with their speech and language problems and adapt my teaching to suit their levels of understanding. |
Tutoring Approach: I have a no-nonsense approach to tutoring as I expect my students to put in 110% each time, as I do for them. I like to be visual and create worksheets that will help them understand the material much better. I am also very encouraging and like to clarify that my student understands something before moving onto a new topic. I hope to gain trust with my students so that they also feel comfortable enough to tell me all the problems they have with their studies so I can do my best to help them through this. |

| About Female: From the Manager of My Child's Education 'My Child's Education' was started by a husband and wife team. My name is Aminur Rahman. I am a medical doctor, aged 29 and currently working full time. My wife, Shahina Ahmed is a full time mum. We have two daughters. The first is aged 5 years and the second is 1 year. While thinking about the future of our daughters' education we realised that there was no facility for quality private tuition with which we would be completely satisfied and to which we could send them to in the future. This is why we decided to set up 'My Child's Education' in November 2006. We believe that there are many other parents who think similarly. We believe that many parents would like their daughters to be tutored by high quality female tutors in a safe environment where they can interact with other similar girls to reach their potential. I myself have high expectations of both tutors and students, having received a high quality education myself as a child and having achieved straight A's in 11 GCSEs (including 4A*) and 2 A's and 2 B's at A-level before going on to University. I have both received private tuition myself and also tutored children during my student days. These experiences have given me an insight into what is actually required for success. We run this organisation as efficiently as we can and without hiring unnecessary staff, thereby reducing running costs and ultimately the fees to a minimum. The fees primarily go towards class hiring costs and tutors' fees. We aim to offer some of the best pay rates around in order to attract the best tutors. I hope that your child will enjoy and benefit immensely from the tuition she receives at My Child's Education. If you ever have any questions, queries or concerns then please do not hesitate to contact me. Dr Aminur Rahman |

Tutoring Approach: 'My Child's Education' has been set up to set up with the aim of providing a weekend school of a high quality for bright girls aged 8 - 16 (Years 4-11) where all the students and teachers are female. Many parents in the local community would prefer their daughters to receive private tuition in a female only environment due to cultural, religious or safety concerns. There are no such weekend schools available for this group of students and parents in Birmingham. Hence this scheme. |

| About Graham: I am a married father of two children and have completed a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Bradford, and a PhD in Medicine from the University of Birmingham. For the past three years I have worked as a Biomedical Scientist in Histopathology, specialising in Molecular Pathology and Genetics at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. I am extremely enthusiastic about science and medicine, and really enjoy lecturing and teaching. I aim to simplify complex concepts and enhance understanding in all pupils, regardless of their academic abilities. |
Teaching Experience: During my career I have been responsible for training junior staff, practically and academically, in small groups and on an individual basis. I have also lectured on several occasions to groups of people, including presentations at scientific conferences, explaining concepts to people with varying levels of understanding of the subject. Over the past 5 years I have tutored many GCSE, A-level & University students in Biology and Chemistry with notable success. |
Tutoring Approach: I understand that each student is different and has individual requirements. I first arrange to meet the pupil (and their family where appropriate) face-to-face and on a no-fee basis to discuss the requirements and identify the subject areas they are finding the most difficult. If we both agree to start personal tuition, we then work through the relevant syllabus and I simplify and explain the areas of difficulty using examples and visual aids. I try to build up the confidence of the pupil as much as I can, as I see this as a crucial aspect. I also set homework if this is desired by the pupil and family, including set exam questions relevant to the syllabus. |

| About Khurum: I am a passionate, confident and energetic private tutor who can ensure your child achieves their expected level if not higher. I have an excellent tutoring record from boosting pupil confidence so that they can perform better in exams and coursework to pupils passing selective entrance exams thereby achieving their ambitions. I am realistic and set measurable yet challenging targets for my private students. I strongly believe in that if a student works hard and is dedicated, they will achieve their ambitions and desires. I have and always will endeavour to deliver at the highest level to achieve this. |
Teaching Experience: I have worked in primary and secondary schools since I was reading for my Biochemistry degree at King's College London. I have worked as a school mentor and teaching assistant before embarking on my teacher training course. I have gained a Post Graduate Certificate in Education Studies qualification from Keele University. As part of this course, I had placements in 3 different schools both primary and secondary. I have been a private tutor since 2002. Despite being new to this role, I'm very energetic and full of ideas which have guaranteed success. Being young is advantageous as I can motivate your child to perform at their best if not higher. |
Tutoring Approach: Confident, dedicated and passionate approach, using a wide range of teaching methods tailored to how your pupil learns. My lessons are enjoyable and exciting, which I feel is important so that the pupil doesn't lose interest. I also have the ability to adapt the pace of the lessons thereby sustaining the pupils attention and concentration. I use a wide range of resources depending on the level of study. For example, for a GCSE Maths student, as part of their homework, I assign sufficient GCSE exam-style questions right from the beginning so that the pupil is able to come to terms with the standard required of them. I use a wide range of textbooks and other literature as appropriate. I have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, which I use to ensure parents are aware of their child's progress and to inform them of my future lessons. |

| About Fatima: I am a qualified Doctor of Medicine, and have worked as a manager in a local firm where my role was to teach employees english and the basic skills required for everyday living and work. I am married and am currently available to teach during the week as well as weekends. |
Teaching Experience: I have previous experience in teaching children from the ages of 6 to 18 years of age. I have also been involved in teaching english and other skills to adults too. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach is to allow children the space to learn. I will initially go over a topic with the child online or at home and then set them certain tasks or questions to judge how much they have understood. after this we will go over the subject again, but this time i let the child explain things so i know they have full comprehension of the subject. I do not pressurise the child but do set targets and give incentives to learn as we go along. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Barbara: I am an experienced personal tutor who has recently completed a law degree at Oxford University and have gone onto further study as a postgraduate in Bristol. I would like to think that my education reflects a high level of achievement that qualifies me as an ideal candidate for a personal tutor role. Throughout my studies, I have offered my services as a personal tutor to students at varying stages of their education. I would like to believe that my method of teaching has been highly beneficial to my students and I am in possession of the requisite communication skills to deliver real results. I have enjoyed teaching Law, up to degree level, English Language & Literature, Government & Politics, Psychology and Sociology up to A-level standard. I offer up to GCSE standard all of the above, along with the Sciences, Mathematics and History. Aside from enjoying my students success, I enjoy the teaching itself and I believe that this enthusiasm is crucial in order to truly engage with a student and ensure they are reaching their full potential. I am currently studying for an LLM (Masters in Law) at Bristol University. I have a 2.1 degree in the law, obtained in June 2008 from Wadham College, Oxford University, I went to Oxford following a change of heart during my medicine degree at Sheffield University, where I picked up the qualification of 1st MB on successful completion of the foundation year. As such, I have taken the equivalent of Biology, Chemistry and Physics A-Level to add to the A-Levels in English Language and Literature, Sociology and Psychology I already achieved. I should make the point that my A-Levels were studied and completed over the course of one year, and I gained A grades in all of them, along with 100% scores in most of the papers. My focus in law has primarily fallen on public law, my Masters itself specialises in international law and as such I have extensive knowledge of the principles underlining British government and politics. I also have experience working for both the British and European Parliament. To summarise and conclude, I feel very fortunate to have received the education that I did and I look forward to continuing to use it for the benefit of others. Availability: I am available most days as the level of independent study required by Bristol means that my time is fairly flexible. I am also happy to give lessons either in my own home or the student's. I live with my partner in a house in the 'Suffolks' area of Cheltenham and we have a large designated study room which is kept clean, tidy and warm! |
Teaching Experience: I have extensive experience in offering personal tutor services. I started a the age of 16, where I was fortunate enough to help an 8 year old dyslexic boy manage his condition. After one week, he had for the first time learnt to write his name and address. On the back of his parents recommendations, I picked up a number of students of different ages and abilities and taught up to Key Stage 3. As my own education progressed, so did the level of syllabus I was qualified to teach and, following my entry into Oxford, I felt more qualified to teach at the higher levels. I have had experience in preparing students for GCSEs, A-levels and entrance exams, along with basic numeracy and literacy tests and, particularly in the case of the law, aiding professionals such as social workers, progress in their field. |
Tutoring Approach: One of the obvious advantages of obtaining the services of a personal tutor is that the student can have the lesson moulded to fit their own needs, rather than being subject to a more generic approach in the classroom. Therefore, I believe that a good personal tutor is one who recognises these needs, understands the students and has the flexibility of approach to adapt accordingly and I, relying upon the feedback of previous students, believe I can offer this. As such, I wouldn't say I necessarily had one style of teaching, rather an open-minded approach to whichever student is being taught. In order to do this, however, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, and I think I am in possession of them. In short, I can bring with me a high level of academic ability along with a friendly and flexible approach to teaching that is entirely student-focused. |

| About Clare: I am 23 years old and graduated in June 2006 from Strathclyde University with a "Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with First Class Honours". I currently work as an assistant Educational Psychologist for a local authority, and in September I'm going to Dundee University to study the Msc in Educational Psychology. At school, I really enjoyed English, and went on to study it up to second year university (dropping it to concentrate on my psychology). My particular strengths lie in writing essays and creative writing pieces, and structuring written pieces - grammar, spelling, punctuation etc. I love to travel and have the opportunity to experience new cultures and meet new people - I lived in Nepal for 3 months with a Nepali family and had the time of my life (also, if anyone wants very basic Nepali language lessons, this could be arranged!) |
Teaching Experience: Over the years at university, I gained much experience in helping my peers learn through our group work and one-to-one sessions. I have no formal teaching experience other than that which I gained working in the Learning Support Unit of my Secondary school where I worked with three children with profound special needs, and children who came from mainstream for intensive support in other subjects. In addition to this, I have been involved in respite care for children (aged 5-19) with various special needs for over 5 years and am currently a volunteer befriender with the National Autistic Society. I also spent time in an orphanage in Nepal, where assisting with school work and homework was a daily activity. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that to learn properly, people have to learn for themselves so I see my role as a supportive one, providing students with the confidence and skills to question, find out and remember the information they need, and pointing them in the right direction in terms of study material, exam techniques and essay skills. I don't believe in rote learning and would encourage any student to try to understand a subject rather than to simply learn wording from a book, making their study useful in the long term, not just until the exam is over. I would like to equip the student with the skills and self-belief to handle any exam situations, and to find marks wherever possible through demonstrating a thorough understanding of whatever subject matter is under question. |

| About Jim: I have recently completed a biological science bachelors degree at the University of Oxford with first class honours and am due to start a PhD back at Oxford in October 2009. I have a real passion for biology and take pleasure from learning about it as well as discussing it with others and carrying out research projects (i've worked on projects ranging from plant developmental genetics in the lab to baboon behaviour on the edge of the Namib desert). I would also be happy to teach chemistry and french, having obtained A grades at A level in both, and which i still enjoy learning about myself. |
