I was a trained peer supporter in secondary school where I aided younger students with their class/homework. There I also worked with teachers in finding and trying out fun ways to encourage students to learn and take part in community/social events. A key aspect of the job was to provide support for any students with any social issues.
For the past year I worked with tutoring my younger cousin in her keystage 3 mathematics.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe that everyone learns best with different methods be it taking notes or practically taking part, therefore I like to adapt my teaching methods to best suit each learner. However I have a few basic rules and guidelines, to ensure the tutee understand how things work. To understand the method and approach to reach the answer which is more significant than the actual answer itself at times. Often I like to revisit and go back to basics.

I am a Fine Art Graduate and practising artist living in Redland, Bristol willing to offer support, advice and tutoring to GCSE and A-Level ar students, whether it be preparing for the art exam or wanting some extra help with the big workload which is coursework.

I remember very well being overwhelmed by the amount of sketchbooks, critical appraisals and time which had to go into my coursework at school and making every bit count for those extra marks. After being through the mill with A-levels, a foundation course in art & design and a degree in fine art I will be able to offer some advice and help whether it be with practical techniques such as drawing or with critical analysis to try and help you figure out which direction your work is going.

Teaching Experience:
I have previously been a mentor to secondary level students (year 7) who had just started school, offering them support and a sympathetic ear within the school environment. This role was during my time at school and one which helped the students to intergrate into their new surroundings and voice any problems they had to someone other than a teacher.

I run my own part-time jewellery design business which has been established for over a year.

Tutoring Approach:
My main practice is heavily focused on drawing and I use methods such as printmaking and textiles to create my work. I have a strong background in drawing, particuarly life drawing, which I still enjoy doing.

I am also happy to discuss work and offer practical criticism as well as dealing with contentual issues relating to art work based on art theory and history. I have a current and up to date knowledge of the current art scene and reguarly take visits around the UK to keep myself in the loop.

I have a huge interest in all areas of art and design, but my main area of interests are in narrative based works (stories, poems), drawing, painting, animation, film and hand-made work. I love teaching and I love anything involving art and design.

Teaching Experience:
Since graduating, I have taken part in a wide variety of teaching activities, from voluntary workshops to supply teaching in secondary schools. This has included working with adult carers in Wythenshawe to produce short films about their lives, supply work in secondary and specialist schools throughout Manchester, and most recently working with arts organisation Eastside, in London, as a workshop assistant for film-making sessions with London teenagers. During my PGCE I was required to work on placement at a local college, planning and delivering art and design sessions to learners ranging in ages and abilities, from BTEC through to A-level.

Tutoring Approach:
I enjoy teaching and building a rapport with each individual learner. My strengths are in one-on-one sessions as I find this is where I can have the most positive impact. I am friendly and approachable - I keep sessions informal yet make sure they are well-structured, eclectic and challenging. I keep track of the learners' progress and try to develop the sessions according to this.

During my undergraduate career I organized and led student study sessions for both Art History, Literature. As I recently completed my degree, much of the information and study habits are still fresh.
Prior to this I tutored students through a progamme at my high school. This programme included students with minor learning disabilities. I helped young students in English, Science and Maths where I learn the value of both hands on and text book learning.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach would be individualized to the student. I would want to know the expectations or requirements of the student's program, then I would talk to the student and find out how they think they best learn; from there I would bring in my own learning skills to try and set up the best way to proceed. I also like to have a sample of their work to see where potential strengths and weaknesses lie, enabling me to work through problem areas. Depending upon each student, I will employ the different study skills I developed over time. I feel it is important to engage the student in their personal development as well, by encouraging them to set their own goals for our sessions. I would want to check at each session how the student felt things were going, and where more time needed to be spent.
