Daniel - Oxford tutor
Information About Daniel:
Personal Description:
I am currently studying for my undergraduate degree (Human Sciences) at the University of Oxford, currently living in Summertown. Upon graduation I hope to progress into research. My key interests are the natural sciences (chemistry, physics and biology), with mathematics forming a large component of my studies. I believe that for a student to improve their knowledge they must be willing to apply themselves both during the tutorial and then consolidate this information for it to truly be taken in.
I do al my bookings and confirmations through my university email so people can be sure I am a genuine University of Oxford student.
Teaching Experience:
Whilst I have not formally taught within a school, I have recent experience of the schooling system, and thus the shortcomings of many current teaching styles.
I can appreciate the student's perspectives and frustrations at not immediately grasping concepts, and am excellent at unravelling tricky topics, making them far more digestible.
With regards to the natural sciences I am very pleased with the way in which I can show how the key topics all link together, enhancing one another and making each other easier to comprehend/understand.
Whilst studying at college I tutored four other students, both during lunch breaks and after college and all four exceeded their predicted grades in the relevant subjects by at least one grade and in one case four grades higher.
Tutoring Approach:
Firstly it is imperative to identify the specific areas of weakness that need to be improved. Approach the problem from a new angle to shed light and add clarity to the concept. The key principle is to turn your weakest areas into strengths.
I would also leave work/reading to be completed for the next session, and this would serve to consolidate the previously covered topics. Equally I would always be prepared in advance and would ring beforehand to establish exactly what material was wanted to be covered as to maximise productivity.
If anyone were unhappy with my tutoring I would happily agree to waive the fee.
