Inuka - Chiswick tutor
Information About Inuka:
Personal Description:
My name is Inuka Jayasekera. I am British and have lived in the UK for the majority of my life. I was introduced to teaching at the age of 18, where I was offered an assistant role at my school while I waited for my A-Level results. Since then I have loved teaching and used to it on several occasions to supplement my main income.
Although I was born and raised in the UK, I am of Sri Lankan origin, so I speak fluent Sinhalese too. I enjoy the cultural diversity in London and feel it has opened my mind to various ways of thinking.
My hobbies are reading science fiction, drawing and travelling. I also take pleasure in exploring other languages and am currently learning French and Hungarian.
Teaching Experience:
2003 - 2008 Private Tuition, UK
During this time, I continuously tutored many private students. The main subject and level of tuition was Mathematics for KS3 and KS4. I have also tutored Computer Science students up to degree level.
For 11 to 14 year olds, I have completed the KS3 with many students and therefore have all the material prepared and tested. The same applies to the 14 to 16 year old KS4 syllabus.
For Computer Science, I have had mainly intermittent students, who returned on several occasions when they met trouble spots in their syllabus. In these cases, I prepared custom lessons for them to help them overcome their difficulties. However, I also have lesson plans prepared for the full KS4 ICT syllabus.
2005 - 2008 King's College London, UK
Teaching Assistant (BSc and MSc Levels)
In this position I worked closely with the module lecturers to develop and further the understanding of the students. In tutorial and lab sessions, I taught both theoretical and practical concepts to a varied class of students, from a range of educational backgrounds. This meant providing extra support on several occasions to students of a non-mathematical background. During my time as a teaching assistant I also marked coursework and provided effective feedback for students.
The modules I have assisted in include:
- Compression and Multimedia Methods
- Introduction to Cryptography
- Advanced Cryptography
- Foundation of Computer Science
- Algorithm Design and Analysis
- Text Searching and Processing
- Data Structures
- Introduction to C++
- Beginner Java
- Intermediate Java
- Advanced Java
2001 Alethea International School, Sri Lanka
'O/A' Level Physics Teacher Assistant
In this position I mainly assisted in the running of the Physics laboratory used by 14 to 18 year olds; this covered a range of daily tasks. The most important of these tasks was to devise experiments that would help students in understanding the theory taught in lessons. I would also have to set up the laboratory for the practical sessions and explain the experiments and the required assessments that should be made to the students. After many positive appraisals from my students, I was later offered a position as a training teacher at the school.
Tutoring Approach:
I always begin by getting to know my students and their requirements. After which I adapt my material for their needs. I am happy to create new material for any student who is having difficulties in any particular areas. All my lessons are followed up by question and answer type sessions to test the student's understanding of the material.
My lessons are always as interactive as possible. I believe that learning at any age should be fun and thrilling in order to keep the concentration of the student and make the lessons memorable.
I am extremely hard working and enjoy going the extra mile to see excellent results. I am also very friendly and patient and have built an excellent repertoire with my colleagues and students in the past.
