Personal Description:

A teacher for twelve years, I am committed to the success of all my students, within and outside school.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently Head of English in a large state secondary school on the south coast. Previous to this position, I taught for several years in Wiltshire. I have delivered the English curriculum across the age and ability range, with successful results at GCSE and A-Level. I have taught English, English Literature, Media Studies and Film Studies, and am also an Assistant Examiner for GCSE English Literature, giving me an excellent insight into the workings of exam boards and the requirements of the syllabus.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a committed and professional teacher, and pride myself on seeing my students perform well at all levels of education. I have a good degree from Cardiff University and am able to support and stretch the most academic of students. However, I am also approachable and supportive and enjoy helping students who find the subject more difficult to achieve their maximum potential. I see the study of English as absolutely key to an individual's future success. Good communication skills are vital in today's competitive employment market, and core English skills lie at the heart of communication, be it oral or written. I am also committed to the importance of English Literature, as a way of facilitating access to the rich and diverse culture(s) which surround us. I believe that literary study can not only allow engagement with the dominant British culture, but enrich understanding and appreciation of other cultures and traditions.
