Personal Description:

I am a 23year old Australian female who has been in Belfast for 3 months, previsouly living in London working with children aged0-12years.
I have completed my HSC with subjects such as English, Maths, Ancient History and Social Studies. (Equiv to GSCE and also A Levels).
I have an avid interest in English, children's literature and it was always a strong subject at school.
From 2003-2005 I complted 3 years of a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) degree.
We also focused very much so on English as well as HSIE, which is current affairs, the environment and social studies

Teaching Experience:

Throughout University, I carried out 2 Practicals each year with children, most of them being in Primary schools, focusing on the age range of 5-11years, therefore most of my experience is within that age range.
I am currently tutoring my bosses daughter in Mathematics, P3 and P4 levels. I also worked as a Child Development Officer in Australia, monitoring foster children's Academic progress in their new homes and tutoring them if required.

Tutoring Approach:

In order for children to grasp certain appraoches, I strive to make Mathematics and English tutoring fun by creating problems and experiences/activities that relate to their lives, their interests or something that they can have fun with. This way they try harder to learn and are actually intersted in the concepts/activities. I encourage this be done one on one so the child can focus more, rather than being in a group of 30 students. I also encourage the student to ask questions, and promote confidence as I sometimes believe classrooms don't have time for this.
I also believe that revision and repeating problems/formulas/concepts is essential to productive learning.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) (4 year degree, currently studying 4th yr by distance from Australia)
• Children's Studies Certificate 3
• Child Protection Course
