Personal Description:

I am a New Zealand woman in my 50's and have recently qualified with a CELTA from Lisbon International House, Portugal. I have an ancestry visa which allows me to work in UK for 5 years.

I have been tutoring 7-14 yr olds in english, maths reading, writing and spelling in Australia for the past year and enjoy the one on one teaching. I am a secondary trained teacher but enjoy the young students. I am very interested in the Spalding Method of teaching reading and writing but as yet haven't been trained. I am also a cooking teacher and would be happy to offer anyone some basic cooking lessons if necessary - any adults as well would be welcome !

I have recently arrived in Brighton/Hove and am currently looking for teaching work in the area so will have a permanent addrress soon. I can supply an Australian and NZ Police Check and will be starting my CRB check in the next few days.

Teaching Experience:

I have had 3 years teaching in NZ at secondary level 13-18yr olds. Also one year supply teaching in Australia as well as 1 year as a private tutor in Aus. I can supply some references if required.

Tutoring Approach:

I like my teaching to be enjoyable and fun if possible, for both the student and myself and try to make the students feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible during the lesson. I enjoy finding as many ways as possible to explain things to a child so that they learn in the way that is easiest for them. Some learn visually, others by activities and others by listening so I try to cater for that. I will share with them some of my own learning experiences too.
