Personal Description:
I am a naturally enthusiastic and encouraging person who loves working with young people. I have several years experience working with children and teenagers in educational contexts, and as such have developed a range of skills which help me to engage with them.
Teaching Experience:
I am a part-qualified Primary School Teacher, holding a Postgraduate Diploma in Education. This course involved 16 weeks of in-class teaching experience, and following the completion of this course i worked full-time as a classroom teacher for 2 months.
Before this i worked full-time as part of the Glasgow Science Centre's Education team, first preparing for and delivering science shows, workshops and experiences to school groups from nursery to secondary age, then later as the lead member of the Centre's Outreach programme. This involved delivering the programme in schools, youth centres etc.
Tutoring Approach:
Children learn best by doing, by finding what strategies work best for them. I try to present concepts in simple terms, then allow the child to work with that concept through a variety of practical work, experiences and exercises as appropriate.
