Personal Description:

My name is Jimmy Mao, I graduated Imperial College London's maths department in 2007 and now live near Kentish Town.
I am fluent in Mandarin Chinese and regularly visit my parents who live in Beijing, though I was brought up in Britain.

For my hobbies, I read voraciously and enjoy debating. In addition to this I really love cycling and in-fact cycle the 10 miles to and from Peckham, where I work everyday.

Teaching Experience:

I am an NQT year teacher teaching Mathematics at St Thomas the Apostle College as part of the TeachFirst scheme. My experience includes a wide range of abilities from foundation support sets to currently teaching the Fast-track year 11s Additional Maths and A-level modules.

I have experience with teaching to a broad range of learning disabilities including autism, hearing difficulties and attention deficit disorders.

I have had tutoring experience in the past and have mentored many pupils within schools during my University career.

Tutoring Approach:

Initially I would try to gauge the level of the pupil and then devise a plan according to the level descriptors and national strategy in how best to attain (and surpass) their targets.

In subsequent sessions the first part will be a relatively quick consultation time where issues with class and homework are discussed. Afterwards we will work on some of the areas identified that the pupil needs extra help on. Finally to conclude each session a plenary/review of what we have learned this sessions and targets for next session are set.

Depending on the regularity of the sessions, every few sessions we would review our progress towards our final goal and evaluate whether previously defined issues have been met and whether or not new areas of study have arisen. I would expect the pupil to have made some agreed preparation work prior to each tutoring session.
