Information About Peter:

Personal Description:

I'm a university postgraduate composer and performer and have returned to Ipswich having completed a BA and MA at the University of Leeds.

I tutor violin (beginner - grade 5) and guitar (beginner +) performance as well as music theory and composition (any level).

I have a wide range of musical experience and understand the technical requirements of most orchestral instruments having specialised in contemporary (avant-garde) composition.

Aside from my academic qualifications I am a grade 8 violinist and completed my grade 5 theory (with distinction).

I also play Guitar, Bass and Sitar and dabble in music recording and production and am a songwriter in my free time. Thus I can offer insight into most major musical branches.

Teaching Experience:

Throughout my undergraduate and postgraduate courses I taught students privately focusing on music theory, violin and guitar tuition.

I currently work at a Highschool in Ipswich assisting Music Tuition and will be participating in the Graduate Teaching Programme from September 2009.

Prior to my degree courses I taught guitar and violin privately on a smaller scale to gather teaching experience teaching students aged between 10 - 52.

I have also supported younger students on University Music courses in composition techniques and theory and can additionally provide contemporary aesthetic grounding and reasoning behind composition styles. My CRB check was initialised by this institution.

Tutoring Approach:

Every student has their own requirements and personal goals. I aim to help them achieve those goals utilizing the wide array of musical experience I have assimilated over the last thirteen years as a musician, student and composer.

I emphasise the importance of performance technique, the right attitude for private practice and can teach music theory at any level ranging from basics to post graduate techniques including the obligatory grade 5 theory every associated board performer eventually faces!

Qualifications:

• Masters of Music from the University of Leeds with specialism in Composition
• Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Leeds
• A level Music
• GCSE Music - grade A*
