Personal Description:

I am a mother of three (all now adults) who has worked in schools and at two colleges in the area since 1992. I have worked in both State and Independent schools with mainstream pupils and with pupils who have Special Needs.I began tutoring privately in April 2009 but worked with pupils and students on a one-to-one basis as a Study Skills teacher for five years. Since beginning work as a private Tutor I have worked with Year 10, Year 11, Year 12 and 13 pupils as well as one Italian lady wishing to improve her English. Most recently I have worked 1-1 in a girls school with girls needing further Learning Support for a variety of reasons and aged from 11-18.

Teaching Experience:

6 years full-time teaching at a Comprehensive School in Oxfordshire.
Part-time Supply teaching in both secondary and primary schools in Oxfordshire for three years following Maternity Leave.
8 years Part-time teaching at a Comprehensive school in Hampshire.
2 years Supply teaching at an Independent Prep school in Hampshire.
5 years Part-time teaching at a Sixth Form college in Hampshire.
2 terms teaching International Students at Chichester College
2 years Private Tutoring and/or Supply teaching at Primary level
2 terms in an Additional Learning Dept of an Independent school in Hampshire
2 years as a Learning Support Tutor at an Independent school in Wiltshire

Tutoring Approach:

I have a friendly but brisk and business-like approach to my Tutoring sessions. I like to establish particular needs at the outset and deal with any Study Skills issues alongside the English work. I will usually have a routine that helps the pupil feel secure and set a task to be completed between sessions. I try to make the tasks set as relevant as possible to the work being covered in school or college and see constant praise and constructive feedback as being crucial to the success of the process.
