Melissa - Barking tutor
Information About Melissa:
Personal Description:
I am 22 years old and extremely passionate about Mathematics and I firmly believe in the advantages of peer tutoring. During my 5 years of private tutoring I have found that students find it easier to relate to me because of my age.
Although my main passion is mathematics, I am extremely passioante about learning in general and I am quite capable of teaching Science, English and Law up to G.C.S.E level and I have experience in teaching these subjects.
I have recently completed a BSc in Mathematics at the university of Warwick. At A level I achieved grades AAAAa at A level including Mathematics and further Mathematics.
I am madly passionate about mathematics and I want to share the enjoyment I find in mathematics with young people of all ages. I was involved in a Hackney-wide scheme tutoring students in GCSE mathematics for local secondary schools. Whilst at college I set up a scheme to assist GCSE students studying mathematics which was very successful and very popular.
I have tutored in Mathematics, English and Science at G.C.S.E level and also A level mathematics. I have also taught students at various other levels including Year 9 SATs and at year 3, year 5, year 6, year 8 and year 10. I specialise in the core and Further Pure modules at A level but can teach other modules as well. I have been described as a 'natural teacher' and my talents lie in reducing seemingly complex topics and explaining them in simple terms. I will use any example to demonstrate a point!
I have received certificates in mathematics from my college which demonstrate my ability and I was the highest achieving maths student in my year graduating overall with the highest UCAS tariff.
I love children and teenagers and working with them and I have also been a peer mentor and further education ambassador, working with young people and encouraging them to consider further education.
I am also quite willing to teach adult learners as I love mathematics and will teach it to any person of any age. I have taught for the maths equivalency exams. I am CRB checked and can provide references from teachers and tutors as well as parents of tutees to support my character.

Tutoring Approach:
I have a very individual approach to teaching and I have had very positive results. I provide all learner resources and tailor my lessons to the national curriculum.
Students receive reports termly, are assessed monthly and set assignments weekly. Or lessons are tailored to individual needs.
I believe in engaging my students and encouraging an individual approach to learning where a learner develops responsibility for their own learning. Despite the fact that I am very young I am highly motivated, a good role model and a very high achiever.
I have a relaxed but focused approach to teaching and learning. My students find it very easy to relate to me, I am always available to answer a pupil's needs and my students regularly contact me by phone, email or text with their problems. I do not have a set method of tutoring but try to adapt to the individual student's needs. This could include developing visual aids, including e-learning, posters and colour coded learning materials to increase interest as well as audio aids.
I charge 20-25 an hour (usually for a minimum of 1.5 hours) and I also offer group tuition and prices are negotiable for larger groups and are usually inclusive of travel costs and other expenses.
