Personal Description:

I am a friendly sociable and energetic 23 year old TEFL teacher. I grew up in Portsmouth and moved back again after graduating from UCL in London last July. I love reading, history, socialising, laughing, archaeology, my pets, travelling, art, the theatre, music and diving (although not in England, it is far too cold!!) I pretend to be active by going to yoga and ballet classes...but probably not as often as I like to think I do. I also really enjoy my work, particularly working one to one with students, as I feel so much more can be achieved and I welcome the opportunity this affords me to get to know my students.

Teaching Experience:

I have been employed in a number of voluntary and paid teaching roles, encountering a range of class sizes and ages. I gained 100 hours teaching experience with adults whilst qualifying for my EFL certificate, I spent two months teaching primary aged children with a charity in Sri Lanka, and last summer was employed as a tutor to two Italian children for three months in Italy. I am currently teaching at a language school in Portsmouth.

Tutoring Approach:

I am flexible in my approach to teaching and believe it is important to tailor my lessons to the student's individual needs, learning style and interests, working with my student to create a syllabus unique to their requirements. I believe an informal and enjoyable atmosphere is conducive to learning and do not believe it is a necessity to always conduct lessons at a desk, and so am quite happy to take lessons outside so that the students can use and apply their English if they so wish. I am enthusiastic and dedicated to my work which I think helps create a motivated and comfortable learning environment.

Qualifications:

• A Levels: English Literature: A, Theatre Studies: A, Classical Civilisation: B, History of Art(AS): B, obtained from Portsmouth Grammar School
• Egyptian Archaeology BA: 2:1, obtained from University College London
• Trinity EFL Certificate, obtained from St Georges International School
