Denise - Gloucester tutor

Information About Denise:

Personal Description:

I am an owner of four Basset Hounds and eight Alpacas. I live on a small island in Gloucestershire surrounded by the River Severn and Canal system. In March 2008 I left the LEA to enable me to provide children with home tutoring. The reason I left the LEA was purely due to the fact that I was not happy with the way the educational system in this country was heading my feelings still remain the same, I am extremely dissatisfied with the way the educational system is now progressing and I cannot see the LEA making any changes in the near future. Schools are more interested in money and numbers rather than the individual child. I basically live education, I am extremely conscientious and I put a tremendous amount of effort into the work that I do with my pupils. I ask a lot of my pupils and in return I put a lot of effort into the preparation and individual plans that I complete for each pupil, ensuring that the work each pupil is set is suitable for their individual learning needs. I also set work for my pupils to complete as individual work to consolidate the lesson previously taught. I work hard to ensure that my pupils receive the best education possible and have help numerous pupils who have had low attainment levels to levels that would make any parent or pupil extremely happy. A number of my pupils have statements, and low attainment levels, after a lot of hard work by the pupil and myself, I have managed to raise their levels in secondary school to A, A*, B levels, with regular tutoring and regular nightly homework anything is possible. I would like to work online or from home as I enjoy my life at home with my animals.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked in Further & Higher Education, Primary Education (7-11) Commenced Primary teaching 1988 I have a considerable amount of experience, especially with Special Educational Needs pupils. Positions held, Senior Management, Special Educational Needs Coordinator, Advanced Teacher, years taught 3, 4, 5, & 6. I have taken numerous educational examinations including a Head Teacher Qualification. To ensure that my pupil obtain the highest education possible I have ensured that I keep up to date with all the latest teaching techniques, including specialised areas. I have in the past taken pupils from the special education needs register and pupils who all teaching staff within various schools have totally given up on and improved their attainment levels to a point that many are now achieving A, A*, B in secondary schools and many have made their way into University or Collage. All my pupils hold their heads up high and are always full of self-confidence and self-esteem, basically because I believe in them and do not just push them aside and treat them as a second class citizen as many teachers and class room assistants do far too often. One of the reasons for my pupils to gain such confidence in themselves is the simple fact that they are taught by real teacher, someone who cares and they are not just pushed aside and taught by a parent helper or teaching assistant

Tutoring Approach:

Initially assess the pupils capabilities, produce a selection of attainable targets, design a programme of work. By completing these three basic areas this ensures that the pupil will be working at the correct attainment level and would ensure that progression, self-confidence and self-esteem will improve. Enabling them to develop and reach their next attainment level. No matter where a pupil may have be placed on the attainment level sheet, I will always encourage a pupil to move to the next level, I will never accept that any pupil has reached their full potential, there is always room for improvement. The pupil plays a huge role in the way that I conduct my tutoring, the actual lesson is totally structured around how an individual learns. It is no good trying to teach a child in a set way, as we all learn in different ways, so it may take me three or four goes to find out the exact vocabulary that the pupil understands in order for them to grasp a concept. I am a great believer that any pupil can reach a level of attainment that they wish to achieve and one to one tutoring is always beneficial, as their individual needs can be catered for and they are not fighting with thirty-plus other pupils.
