Barbara - Woking tutor

Information About Barbara:

Personal Description:

I have a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from St Anne's College, Oxford and Maths from the Open University.

I have come come to the end of the third year of teaching in an international virtual high school, teaching classes with voice, text and slide presentations.

I have the abilitly to explain difficult concepts clearly.

I am a published author in both computing and economics.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for about 20 years and am used to adapting to different exam boards. Most of my one to one work is in maths from primary up to Further Maths at A level. I have taught in local schools and colleges, both private and state and ran a successful Economics A level course for adults at evening class. I taught children's computer classes and adult training classes in most basic Microsoft packages.

Tutoring Approach:

To work with the individual, working on motivation and being warm and encouraging but also making sure that I offer value for money and that the student gets lots of practice particularly when it comes to maths which I see as a doing subject. This can feel rather different from sitting in the back of the class and perhaps hiding within a group! I see myself as a personal trainer or coach, knowing that sometimes students are reluctant, but I find that with a fairly upbeat approach, most students enjoy my sessions and find they can do much more than they thought.

I also tutor gifted children who often appreciate being able to move at a higher and faster pace than the average classroom.
