Personal Description:

I have successfully completed a 4 year degree in Philosophy and Theology&Religious Studies from the University of Limerick. This encorporated a TEFL qualification and enabled me to teach for 1 year in a local secondary school. I have since moved to London and studied a PGCE in St. Mary's University, Twickenham and have achieved QTS in Religious Education (secondary) after completing my NQT year.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching in a high achieving, "outstanding" (OFSTED) secondary school for the past 4 years and my exam classes have consistently achieved very high results in their Edexcel GCSE modules. This year I am teaching AS Philosophy for the first time. I have taken on extra responsibilities in the school in the last few years, namely a Head of House position and responsibility within my department for Key Stage 4 classes and General RE for 6th Form. I have also been an Edexcel trained marker of RE exams for the last two years.
I taught for a year in a secondary school in Ireland where I was required to teach English, R.E., and extra classes for SEN students. I have tutored in English and Irish in the past also.

Tutoring Approach:

I have found that tutoring offers the student a more accessible, personalised approach to learning and offers the student the opportunity to gain more from a subject. Tutoring would ideally be tailored to meet the needs of the individual student and would not supplement school based learning but rather compliment it. My approach to teaching is similar to that of tutoring where I like to help students relate to topics covered easily and use examples/stories to help them recall information.
