Personal Description:
I am a 40 year old ethusiastic and experienced English and Media Studies tutor, who has a good track record in motivating pupils and helping them to cahieve their potential. I have ten years experience in an FE college and 5 years experience as a personal tutor - teaching all ages from 11 - 65!
I tailor sessions not only to the syllabus but to the interests and needs of the pupil.
Teaching Experience:
10 years as a tutor in Liverpool Community College, teaching English (up to 'A' Level), Media Studies (up to GCSE), Study Skills, Creative Writing, Literature Studies and Confidence Builing.
5 years as a personal tutor - working with pupils from 11-18 years old on an intensive one-to-one basis.
Some time spent teaching English in a fee-paying/private secondary school in Liverpool
Tutoring Approach:
I am knowledgeable, highly motivated, enthusiastic and relentlessly cheerful. I find that a positive 'can-do' attitude usually rubs off on the pupil. I aim to demystify and make accessible literature - especially for de-motivated and unsure/unconfident pupils. I particularly focus on pupils needs and strengths - which I use as a starting point in sessions.
I have had very positive feedback from both parents/carers and pupils themselves - and helped pupils move up beyond expected grades. I also genuinely like secondary school age children and teenagers. (I have two children of my own).
