Personal Description:
I have over seven years experience tutoring privately. I particularly enjoy seeing a pupil master an area that had been previously inaccessible to that pupil and sharing the joy that is felt. Most of my teaching experience has been gathered working with SEN pupils and I am well aware of the need to be consistent, patient, creative and supportive when tutoring - all qualities that I possess in abundance.
Teaching Experience:
2004-Present: Head of English/History, Mill Hill County High School, Oak Hill Campus (Specialist EBD school), East Barnet London
2004 Jan-2004 Jul: teacher of English/SEN, Lea Valley High School, Enfield London. Specialist Sports College and mixed secondary school catering to over 1000 pupils, 45% of whom are statemented as having SEN.
Sep 2003-Jan 2004: Teacher of Geography/SEN, Wandle Valley EBD school, Carshalton Surrey
1999-2003: Teacher of History/English/Citizenship, Charlie Smith High School, Kingston Jamaica
Tutoring Approach:
I prefer not to be overly intrusive. I will guide and support pupils as much as possible and give them as much resources as they need. However, i do believe in encouraging pupils to learn at their own pace and within the constraints of their respective learning styles. I believe in empowering my tutees to 'discover' and to solve problems with my help as opposed to being totally reliant on me for the answers.
