Jeff - Hampstead tutor

Information About Jeff:

Personal Description:

I am a 30 year old Chartered Accountant working with an international bank. I studied Mathematics and Statistics at University of Edinburgh obtaining an Upper Second with Honours. I will be starting my PGCE teaching course in September of this year and I am looking to gain some experience in tutoring and understanding any issues pupils are having so that I am better prepared for when I teach formally in a classroom environment.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored irregularly in Mathematics since 2002 and last year for accountancy. Last year I had 4 pupils, 3 of which did very well (A) while the other pupil did not have the motivation to study to the level of what was required to pass.

It was a great experience to help pupils out and even that one experience has taught me ways to be a more effective tutor.

Tutoring Approach:

The only way to learn and improve at Maths or Accountancy is to practise. Doing past paper exercises and redoing them until you have the technique off by heart. Focussing on areas of weakness combined with past exam questions is the best approach.

I am also patient as I accept that many pupils do not 'get' Maths immediately.
