Personal Description:
I am an experienced and qualified teacher and have been working as a private tutor, specialising in Primary and English since 2001. I aim to help you, or your child overcome specific problems, extend knowledge and skill and gain the confidence that may be lacking in order to achieve.
My style of teaching depends on the needs of the tutee. Although I tend to be informal, though take a structured approach with younger children or those who are happy to learn, I am more formal with others who need a firmer framework for their learning.
Teaching Experience:
Following teaching in schools, both primary and secondary I have been working as a private tutor since 2001. I cover the full range of ages with English, including EFL. I also tutor children for entrance exams and would urge you not to leave this too late as the competition for places is every increasing. I have had past pupils who have been successful in both the grammar school tests for schools such as St Olave's, Newstead Woods, Dartford and Bexley, as well as independant schools, such as Dulwich, JAGS, Alleyns, Eltham, City etc. Please do contact me so that we can discuss how I can best help your child to be in the position to access good Secondary education.
I have a current CRB check. This, all certificates and references available.
Tutoring Approach:
I offer:
- head start for children aged 3-5. These sessions prepare your child for reception classes giving them a head start in literacy and maths as well as dealing with specific problems that they have.
-one to one primary tuition in numeracy and literacy, (maths and English), both general and dealing with specific areas of concern.
-preparation for 11 plus, secondary transfer and entrance exams to both grammar and Independant schools.
-key stage three English- ensuring that your child is fulfilling their potential in this area. I cover the syllabus and include areas such as grammar, essay planning and writing, precis, note taking, exam preparation etc which are often neglected in the classroom.
-GCSE, AS and A level English. I offer support in all areas.
-English as a second language. All levels from beginners, examinations etc.
I also offer proof reading and help with letter writing, manuscripts, dissertations etc.
